1. Ballet

I've been celebrating Ballet all week on my own blog, so how could I not bring the subject over here to the PBJ's?

I think it is SO much fun to see the whole art process...

Here's some decorative lettering from start to finish...

.. and a few Ballerinas, too...

I love Ballet!

2. HAPPY Memorial Day

Here is a little quick sharpie-drawing just for you, to celebrate Memorial Day. I like to remember the things I am happy and grateful for every day, in some way. There are always things to be grateful for. We really should not get bogged down by the minute details of tiny little irritating things that may occur in our daily lives, so that they blemish the big picture, which is really hugely positive and generally fabulous. Be like a duck. Let it all roll off. Be grateful!

Today is our special national holiday to honor our troops past, present and future and all that they do to keep us safe and fight for our freedom.... so please enjoy the Monkey love! To our troops!

4. Etsy shop update

Summer has started and we're very excited around here. Lot's of plans, lot's of relaxation on the agenda. I hope to paint on a regular basis if the kids cooperate. They have a list of projects they want me to work on with them. It should be a creative summer around here.

One of my goals this year is to offer more products in my Etsy shop. As a first step, I'm offering 4 new prints from my collage painting line. Please spread the word. I'm hoping for much success this summer. I have a few surprises to share in the near future. This year has been one of experimentation in my art. It's so freeing to try out different materials and ways of working. Reading other artist's blogs has been such an amazing source of inspiration. Here are a few of my most recent favorites.

Please post here and let me know which artists are currently inspiring you. The collaborative nature of social media really helps with the isolation most artist's work in.

Happy Summer!

5. A Classic Valentine

greeting card © 1996 Kathy Weller

Way back in the day (14…?? Some-odd years ago??) I started my own little greeting card company. I printed and hand-painted the cards myself, and some local shops carried them. Back then, I was dreaming of a career in children’s art. Pining away for one, actually! At one point, I even sent a bunch of my cards to Carol Bancroft to see if I could get some feedback. She sent me a really nice note back, which encouraged me a lot, but also helped me realize how far I had to go. It was a catalyst, making me ponder where I wanted to go with my work and where I didn’t. It still took lots of time for me to get up the gumption to begin my children’s career, but it’s 14 years later, and I still remember that helpful, kind gesture. It just goes to show what a difference something so seemingly small can make, in the bigger scheme of things.

Anyhow, I’m really, really proud of the work I did with my little card business. It was a springboard for so many different things creatively, it’s hard to even begin making a list for you without writing a book. Professionally, as far as helping me gain both self-confidence and business acumen, nothing can match the experience - and especially at a time in my life when I was so in need of direction.

Here is one of the cards that was in my line back then. I’ve always loved this one, and in the following years, I’ve found that the “stage” concept has clearly adopted itself as a running theme in my work. Happy Valentine’s Day!

7. Saturday Morning Cartoons

Okay, this doesn't exactly fit the weekly theme, but, if you consider the TV show "Lassie" mixed in with Saturday Morning Cartoons, then maybe I can stowaway on the cargo train with this one... This is one of my recent pet portraits, and the theme is "Lassie" inspired! 50's - 60's Lassie, a Wonder Dog if there ever was one. But THIS wonder dog's name is Buster the CowDog. Hope you enjoy!!

8.

This is an OLDIE but GOODIE. I used to do independent, hand-made greeting cards years ago, and this was one of my favorite of my fall designs!!

9. I heart Bunny Cards

I love the blog world because look at what I got from Kathy at Wellerwishes:
My photograph doesn't really do these cards justice. Her soft, fine drawings are so delicate and wonderful. I got them a while back and didn't get a chance to post these. They are so lovely, thank you Kathy!
