About Pat
I started as a freelance writer about 18 years ago. Writing dozens of magazine and newspaper articles for regional publications as well as putting together newsletters for weird businesses taught me a lot about how to write. So did all of the editing I was lucky enough to get paid
to do.
Finally, about five years ago, I realized that I wanted to write for children. Since then, I've sold several pieces to Highlights for Children, a couple of which have been published already (they tend to hold onto purchased stuff for a long time); I sold an article to Odyssey Magazine a few years back, and I've had four stories published in Stories for Children, the online magazine.
In March 2009 I was honored with a Granny
Award for 2008 from Stories for Children. The Granny represents the
editors' favorite articles/stories for they year. Imagine my surprise
and pleasure at receiving such an honor.
Nowadays, I'm writing my first full-length book, a middle-grade fantasy
with pirates, orphans, and a dragon. And, of course, really bad guys.
