About Jaka
Now then!
I've done a lot of things in my time: I've been in everything from cleaning warehouses (as a kid), to being a marketing manager and chief graphics editor for different media.
The red lining of my life has always been English - from the communicational aspect to the artistic aspect. When I was 11 years old (quite some time ago now), I wrote my first novel, and almost got it published in England - well, thats the story I keep telling myself. I was young, wrote 50 pages of what I thought (at the time) was a masterpiece, told an editor from London about it, and then ... well, lets say the rest is history. I still think of it often and have decided to write a book soon. This was in Cyprus where I spent most of my youth, then moved back to Slovenia (what I currently call home) and soon became very much bilingual. The obvious course of action was: translation. And so I did.
I began my translating career doing favours for my friends, and soon landed some real work:
Articles, extracts, diplomas, newsletters, presentations, brochures, pamphlets, ... the list goes on. At one point (this, I must admit) I got sick of it all, and quit the translating business to do other things (marketing, graphics, ...), but I later found that English is my calling in this life, and that I really have no choice but to translate, and as of late I have also begun to teach.
This time round, its become fun. I enjoy it a lot even though its really hard work sometimes. I've just finished translating my first book (117.450 words), which is quite a big deal for me. I have another book coming up in september, and hope to land translating a children's book by the end of the year - now that will be a load of fun.
I'm also in the final development stages of creating a unique English-teaching technique, which is based on meditating and a one-on-one, face-to-face contact with my students (I currently have five).
I think life is all about thinking positive, about being in touch with oneself and nature - being in harmony, and at peace. Everyone has a certain specific potential in life, and you know what it is when your life runs on autopilot, when you don't have to do anything, when things just happen and keep on happening - when you're in harmony.
"Life depends on point of view, mine's positive!"
