5. Bowls

Here are some bowls I've been working on since I came to the U.S. I've been giving most of my free time over to felt work, but it's nice to keep my eye in as far as woodwork's concerned.

If you're interested in purchasing one of them please contact me at: [email protected]

I've been having a lot of fun recently by making this Halloween troll costume out of some scrap wood and felting wool.

12. Ebony, Box Wood and Tagua Nut.

Fruit Fly on Shrivelled Plum Necklace.

This is a necklace I made for my fiancée's birthday. It's not your conventional subject matter for a piece of jewellery, but hopefully it's not without it's charms. The little fruit fly is made of ebony and his teeth, eyes and wings are made from tagua nut, (It was a bit of a nightmare inlaying those little teeth). The shrivelled plum is made from box wood. The fly is held in place by a brass pin that should hopefully keep him firmly rooted to his plum, he's already survived a drop test or two.
Thanks for looking!

14. Radish & Gnomes

I don't know what inspired me to make this drawing. Maybe it's of use for some strange radish worshiping cult. If you're in such a cult please feel fee to use this picture as your logo.

18. Visit Wales

I drew this poster the other day on yet another rainy evening.  I was inspired by the 4 or 5 months of almost continuous rain we've had here in Wales.
No doubt it'll be snapped up by the Welsh tourist board any time now.

19. A box commission.

It's been a pleasure working on this new cat box over the last month or so. I had almost as much fun making the box for the box. It's more or less a tomobako, (a traditional japanese box used for ceramics) but with a slightly different way or tying the strap. It also comes with a little boxwood mouse, held in place by a dragon seal.

20. Dragon logo.

I spent yesterday evening making the animation in the top right corner, it's the first 2D animation I've made for years, I forgot how tricky it is. The little paddling feet are my favourite bit.

21. Animated Box

I've been meaning to make one of these animated GIFs for a while after a friend suggested it. I have to say, it gives a much better idea of how these boxes look than a photo. I might well make something very elaborate with more boxes before the novelty wears off.

22. Leaf nosed bat pendant.

This little fella might be one of the creepiest pieces of jewellery out there, but hopefully he's sort of charming at the same time. He's made from reclaimed ebony with box wood inlays for the eyes and teeth. He's also hollow so not only light, considering it's ebony, but a nice place to keep things.

24. Ebony and steel

After what felt like an eternity of polishing I'm finally finished with this carving knife. It's made from an old rusty chisel (which could hardly look more different after it's transformation) and a reclaimed chunk of ebony (in the form of a discarded elephant).
More reincarnations of the elephant will materialise shortly.

25. Tool box

Here's my new tool box, and the doodle that inspired it.
It's been a month or two in the making, and it's about double the size of my previous boxes.
It's made out of maple with holly inlays for the teeth and eyes, and of course ukibori freckles (that are much better viewed in raking light).

The tricky thing to get right with this box was making the cut for the opening of the box descend below the hair, yet remain a near invisible join when finished.
The edges of the jaw could be a bit vulnerable to damage, so it's a design problem I've been trying to solve for some time.
After a lot of head scratching I finally figured out how to cut the head to make the jaw without cutting the hair. It's a remarkably long winded process, that gets results practically nobody will notice, not to mention it's a great way to induce glazed eyes in anyone I describe it to.  I'm very pleased with how it turned out all the same.
