About Richard
Richard John McLaughlin
He was born and raised in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. Graduated from Neshaminy High School in Langhorne and the Lower Buck County Technical School in 1976.
He served in the United States Army, US Carpenter in the 76th Engineer Battallion stationed at Fort Meade. Md. from 1976 to 1979. Earned the rank of corporal in 13 months.
He earned his Bachelor's of Arts from Beaver College in Glenside PA, (Now Arcadia University), in 1986. He also earned his certificate to teach special education.
He earned his Masters of Education degree in Psychology from Temple University in 1996.
In 2006 he also obtained a teaching certificate for Environmental Education K - 12 in PA.
These degrees have given him many opportunities to work with children and young adults in a variety of situations. His father worked in a residential institute for severely disabled people. So, his first job was working with special needs children when he was just 15 years old. After he earned his Bachelor's of Arts Degree he has worked in Philadelphia in a school for severely disabled children K - 8. He also worked in the Morrisville School District in the middle school, and at the Pennridge School District in the High School.
Currently he is teaching at a private school, the Solebury School in New Hope Pennsylvania. He is working being a published author with his children's stories.
Awards:
1986: PSI CHI Award: This was given to him while he was a senior at Beaver College, (now called Arcadia University). This award is given annually to the person that shows the most promise in the field of human services from the psychology department of Beaver College.
2000: The Pennsylvania's Conservation Educator of the Year.
2008: Featured musical artist on the Documentary for Musicians On Call
