JD Smith, a fifth-generation Texan, writes with a down-home flavor that draws the reader into his creative world. JD was born in San Augustine, Texas. His young adult books, remind us of a time when simple things were a way of life. He began writing in 2005. His creativity led to short stories such as The Angel with the Broken Wing, a heart-warming Christmas story, and Foreever Fishing, a story about his Dad’s last fishing trip. His online story-telling found a niche among Internet viewers as bedtime stories for their children. Remembering how much he enjoyed mysteries as a young teen, JD has penned YA short mysteries, such as Dave’s Cave, and Dead-end House.JD’s first novel, The Legend of Nicholls Creek, is Volume One of his Devil’s Pocket Trilogy. The story is set in southeast Texas near a place called Devil’s Pocket on the banks of the Sabine River. JD brings strong characters to life with his vivid descriptions of a time past. The second volume is a work in progress called The Curse of Witchbone Lake. Many of the same characters are reprised. The third volume, Greetree, offers a resolution to all the events that take place within the trilogy. Greetree is in the plotting stages. The stories set forth wholesome principles in an adventurous format. Although the trilogy is geared for a young adult audience, JD feels the storyline will interest adults as well. JD currently lives in the Houston area with his wife, Sue. She is a voracious reader and routinely proofs his writing. As co-founder of the West Houston Writers critique group, he shares his insight with group members and in turn receives valuable commentary instrumental in preparing his stories for publication.JD is a member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators) and BAWL (Bay Area Writers League of Clear Lake). He also regularly attends Brenda Hiatt’s online critique group. He looks forward to a fulfilling career as a novelist.
