Jeffrey Allon was born 1954 in Pittsburgh, PA. He earned a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Fine Arts—Painting and Printmaking, from Hampshire College in 1977. Additional study included the postgraduate program at Croydon College of Art and Design, London, which awarded him a Certificate of Art in Advanced Printmaking in 1974; Rhode Island School of Design’s summer workshop in Painting and Drawing in Provincetown, MA, 1976; and a year at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, Jerusalem. His work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions and he has earned scholarships and awards with his art from an early age. His professional experience spans directing a citywide mural painting program in Jerusalem, mural commissions for public projects in the United States, providing technical assistance to artists preparing fine art lithographs, illustrating children’s books, and teaching in several settings. Currently Allon teaches art at the Stern Hebrew High School and attends Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia.

Inspired by a high school teacher to study art, Allon finds that his work in art is not toil but a process of discovery toward developing his true purpose in life. Among other teachers who have inspired him along the way were Arthur Hoener, a student of Hans Hoffman under who Allon studied color theory, and Robert Motherwell. Though Allon bases his work on abstract principles of design, balance, and composition, he has always been drawn to realist art. Studying the techniques and philosophy of realist painting espoused by Nelson Shanks at Studio Incamminati has enriched his understanding and capability of expressing human anatomy, form, tonal values, and color relationships.

Allon, whose family includes eight children, lives with his wife Shelly in Elkins Park, PA.
