Just joined.
KATHA is a Non Profit devoted to literacy of needy children and literature, mainly short stories in translation from over 21 Indian languages. We are 20 years old this year, set up serendipitously on September 8th, the World Literacy day!
Objectives:
1. Enhance the joy of reading among children and adults.
2. Stimulate an interest in lifelong learning that will help the child grow into a confident, self-reliant, responsible and responsive adult.
3. Help break down gender, cultural and social stereotypes.
4. Encourage, foster excellence, and applaud quality literature and translations in and between the various Indian and foreign languages.
During the last 20 years KATHA has published more than 100 children’s books and more than 100 adults books. Soon Katha will have a virtual book store at its web site: www.katha.org Has commissioned international illustrators, authors for its children’s books. KATHA applauds quality in stories and translations through its awards and annual collection of Katha Prize Stories.
