I grew up on a little lake in Florida. I wanted to be a writer when I was very young and sent out my first manuscript at age nine. I received a sweet rejection from Reader’s Digest. It seems, at that time, they didn’t accept poetry!Eventually I left my little lake to go to college where I studied to teach deaf children. That's when I began to learn Sign Language. I was also required to read one hundred children’s books. It was then that I determined to one day write a children’s book of my own.After college I married, and had four kids. Having two special needs children kept me pretty busy for a while. But in time I knew I couldn’t put off the writing any longer. When we lost our daughter, Anna, to leukemia, I hurt so bad I thought I would die, but I knew her story and our journey, had to be told. So in 1990 I wrote Loss of a Loved One. It was published in 1994 along with Loss of a Dream, the story of our special needs family.In 1997 my first picture book, God is Awesome, was released shortly followed by the Comforting Little Hearts series, three interactive books written to help children through the challenges of divorce, chronic illness and blended families. My dream had come true! Since then I have had several articles published, but my heart’s desire has remained in writing for children.
