Wilbert Plijnaar sold his fist batch of stories to the Dutch Disney magazine "Donald Duck'- some of which recently have been reprinted in Walt Disney's Comics And Stories.
He co-wrote one of the longest running comic strip series in The Netherlands: "Sjors & Sjimmie". As the "Wi" in the team responsible for the series, "the Wiroja's" , he then oversaw editing of 31 more books based on the same characters. A total of 49 books.
The Wiroja's then moved on to a series of girl comics, named after it's lead character "Claire".16 books appeared in this series
In 1995 the Wiroja's entire work in comics was awarded the prestigious Dutch Stripschap Prize.

In that same year Wilbert Plijnaar moved to Los Angeles where he has been living ever since and spent the last 25 years as a story artist for countless successful animation films such as the Ice Age movies, Disney's "Princess and the Frog" , Despicable Me 1&2 ,The Minion Movie, Secret Life of Pets, The Grinch and many, many more.

Recently retired from storyboarding, Wilbert is currently involved in teaching, story consulting, and writing a Dutch feature animation project and several independent shorts . In November 2019 a career retrospective book came out under the title " Wilbert Plijnaar-a Rotterdammer in Hollywood" written by Peter de Wit.
