26. Heron Dreams

I figured I had better post something, anything so you all know I'm still here!
Summer has been busy. Family visiting, job hunting, etc.

This is an old collage I did for notecards. My mother was from New Brunswick and the locals were referred to as herons. I think of her every time I see this collage.
This is for Robin, too, who recently posted about the one she encountered.

Tomorrow I see KJ, Mim and Suki !!
More later...miss you all!♥

Equal time for animals!
Here are the eyes from some of the paintings and illustrations I've done.
Can you guess what they are?

28. The Eyes Have It

I didn't have time to participate in Illustration Friday this week. The word is gesture.
I feel the eyes give more signals than any other body part as far as language goes.
Here are a few paintings and illustrations I've done of women, cropped at the eyes.
They take on a whole new look by revealing so little.

29. Animal Wednesday: Heeeeere's Short-T!! and some ravens...

Meet Short-T, my favorite squirrel! She has a short tail (hence the name) and a white puff on the end of it! Even if you dislike squirrels, don't you think she's rather cute?

Hold on, I have an itch....aaaaah, ooooh. Better!

I think her tail is short because she's been caught before. I mean, she's not the smartest squirrel in some ways. Emma nearly caught her the other day because she came down the tree and walked right up to her! Emma was nearly out of her mind!
In other ways I think she may be VERY smart because she's been around for a long time. She's just a risk-taker I guess. I just adore her!

30. Saturday Snippet 11

I do hope to catch up with all of you soon! I spent half of the day at an art festival helping a friend in her shop ( who, of course, sells my wares.)
Click to embiggen the text on the snippet :)

Happy weekend all!!

31. Animal Wednesday: Portrait of a Queen

I'm not sure I've ever posted this before. This is a portrait of my dog, Emma.
I love painting on heavy patterned paper and then detailing it with colored pencils.
Is she not the cutest thing? If only she behaved better.
We're always working on that ;)

Happy Animal Wednesday!
I'm on my way upstairs to have a little siesta with her.

33. Illustration Friday: Stay

The word over at Illustration Friday this week is stay. I had a few ideas that I tried but they weren't working for me. I have felt blocked lately, like many of my other creative friends. And then it dawned on me. I haven't been painting my beloved ravens for a long time. It's as if I had abandoned them without even noticing until painting wasn't making me happy any more.
I hope for my sake they're back to stay.
So here is today's alla prima painting, Raven Totem.

acrylic paint on canvas, 4" x 12'x 1 1/2" deep. Soon to be available on Etsy or perhaps YART

34. Saturday Snippet 10

This photo was taken on Cape Cod, Brewster, Mass.
It was a perfect, slow drive home from Provincetown.
I popped the butterfly in to break up all that green. Buddha approved ;)
Happy weekend, my friends!

35. Animal Wednesday: Otterly Cool Dude

I pulled from my distant archives today because I needed a theme to cool me off.
"IT" has finally arrived.
"IT" is oppressive.
"IT" has no redeeming value.
"IT" is humidity!!!
So, let's all take a virtual dip in the Monterey Bay with this cool dude.

Happy Animal Wednesday to all of my cool (and hot) friends!

36. Happy Independence Day

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism. ~Erma Bombeck~

And a very special happy birthday on July 4th to our friend Marianne who turns the big five-oh! Stop by and give her a birthday wish!

Have a safe and happy 4th, my friends.

40. Animal Wednesday: I Lost My Gorilla

I've been going through some of my art lately and choosing which ones to frame and sell. I have always loved this guy. I can't find him anywhere though. He should be in the box with my other paintings on paper but he's not.
I'm on my way to call the Gorilla Rescue Police.
I'll keep you posted. Meanwhile, I hope your gorillas are safe and sound.

Happy Animal Wednesday!

The sea heals me.
It nourishes my soul.
Soaked in its essence I become peaceful once more.
Everything is as it should be.♥

42. Animal Wednesday: Canadian Critters

Well, I'm back from my Canadian excursion to Ottawa. It was wonderful getting away and seeing my dear Uncle who turns 84 today.
Look, they have black squirrels!! I'll bet Emma would have gone nuts!

Usually my Uncle chases them away, but this guy just froze wondering who the heck I was. I think our squirrels are a bit prettier. He's kind of cool though!

He finally decided to scurry up the pine tree just in case I went psycho on him :)

This sweet little girl sits in her shop window overlooking the patio area where they sell yard items. I bought a very cool raven wall thingy for outside. I'll take a photo of it once I decide where to put it.

This is Miss Kitty, but the owners often refer to her as Miss Shi--y!

43. My Sunday Drive

As it is for many, Mother's Day is a hard day for me. I don't have my mother any more, and being a mother myself just wasn't in the cards.
I picked myself a bunch of daffodils from the front of the house and then set off with my camera for a leisurely Sunday drive. It was blissful!
Remember to click to embiggen the photos :)

I'm always looking for painting inspiration. I can see this on a HUGE canvas!

The stone wall at this house was just brimming with cherry trees!

I had to crop it this way to get rid of the power lines. I like it though.

45. Animal Wednesday Whimsy

I was going to post more zoo photos today but I realized that they depress me.
I like zoos that can give animals enough space to roam and mimic their natural habitats as best as they can. I know some zoos save animals from dying by offering them a life of captivity instead. In most cases I don't find this to be kind.
All I have to offer you this Wednesday are a couple of ATC's of mutts I made up.
I'm also including a photo of my sweet cat, Bliss who had another mini crisis which put me into a major financial crisis. She's fine and she's worth it!
Hug your fur babies. They are not going to be here forever.
On that note, Happy Animal Wednesday!!

46. Animal Wednesday: penguins today and a tropical birdie

I always think of penguins as being bigger, like five feet tall. Especially Emperor penguins like the ones in the documentary, "march of the penguins."
At least this exhibit wasn't bad. The penguins seemed happy and well loved. They all have colored arm bands so the viewers can read about who's who.

This guy looks like he has a friend stuck on his back, hence the commentary!

Hmmm, should I go for a dip?

This is the old timer. He stole my heart.

hey, who's behind me?
They're sure cute little things!

48. Animal Wednesday: Spit Happens

We all know how camels, llamas and alpacas can and DO spit at people, but these two were very well behaved. My camera lens wasn't a target, at least that day.
This guy was a riot! So friendly and curious.

Such a poser!

Their feet fascinate me. They're like discs on the bottom with no indication of those two toes. And they seem so fluid! Just plain weird.

Don't forget to embiggen all these photos :)

50. Blooming Tuesday: Poppy Dish

No, I haven't disappeared from the face of the earth or from blogging!
I'm trying to put in a certain amount of hours per day making art for the various shops I'm in. I have to equate this with showing up for work, and all things considered I like doing it. And I'm the boss of me!!

This is another little paper clay trinket dish I listed on Etsy. When it was dry the shape reminded me of a poppy the way they flatten out. That's how I determine what to paint inside these little guys. I didn't add any gold leaf to this one so it took a little less time.

And if you have never seen this version of the Wizard of Oz, you must get your hands on a copy! Lisbeth Zwerger is one of my favorite illustrators.

Happy Tuesday!
