After an amazing weekend with
Greg Spalenka's Artist as Brand workshop (you can see my report on it
here), we had one final afternoon before I had to return him to the airport which I spent helping him out with a fantabulous photoshoot. It ended up feeling a bit fairy-ethnic as we listened to Loreena McKennitt in the background, so you get to as well, as you peruse the following pictures:
Greg connected with a local model, Jessica Lough. She and I both brought boxes and bags of fabrics, accouterments and costuming elements to choose from.
Greg was very inventive with our limited resources.
Many variations of costume and lighting were attempted.
(Is this not the best profile *ever*?!!!)
Jessica's fabulous significant other was put to work right and left -
- from light-holding, to fan-holding -
-to photographer holding!
Fun shoot. Great weekend overall!
Greg Spalenka has posted a blog entry interview where I discuss amongst other things, attending his
Artist as Brand workshop and the evolution of
TLCWorkshops. Go forth and read
here.
The other thing I did while I was in Kansas City was attend
Greg Spalenka's
Artist as Brand workshop! (there is a great description of on the site of the objectives of this workshop - which was perfect for me and where I am right now.)
10 artists gathered for three days to get to know ourselves and our objectives better and plan for our futures -
Greg led us in exercises, both visual and self evaluation. We also had guest speakers - a Skype session with
Greg Montana too help nail our Core Virtues, and a visit from the amazing Mrs. Spalenka,
Roxana Villa to hear about her ventures from illustration to now concocting scrumptuous botanical perfumes....
We all got some one-on-one time with Greg reviewing our portfolios and future plans -
- as well as interacting with and learning from each other.
It was a great three days. I am thinking new and different thoughts about my art and my
Spent all of last week in Kansas City. It is a beautiful city (at least the limited part that I was in)-
I stayed several places (long, boring story), but the bulk of it was in the Marriott (on the left) while I attended the
Artist as Brand workshop, and the Aladdin (small, boutiquey hotel) on the right whilst I was attending
Spectrum Live.
Spectrum Live was held in this ginormous convention center across the way. The Artist as Brand workshop was ironically held at the Aladdin Hotel. :-)
The Marriott Hotel was adorned with colored lights and beautiful fountains, had room service and a Concierge's Lounge....
This was my view from my window -
- and this.
The Aladdin had....eclectic decor.... (at least all the 'fun kids' saying there. :-)
This was my view from my window -
I am sitting on the 18th floor of a fancy Marriott Hotel, overlooking the Power & Light District in Kansas City. I'm here attending Greg Spalenka's Artist As Brand workshop (www.artistasbrand.com)(which is being awesome-albeit possibly confusing the issue even more for me)for one more day, and then I'll be going to the brand-spanking new Spectrum Live Convention over the weekend. Good art week, yes? I seem to know a number of people coming to Spectrum, and my art friend, Sue Cornelison is sharing my room and going to the workshop with me. So Much Art & Career Discussion! Sadly, I haven't figured out how to deal with photos on this iPad, so pictures will have to wait until I get back next week. Meanwhile, tune into twitter or facebook for updates.
Wow, you really captured the workshop. To your empowerment and clarity!
