1. A Lively Discussion!

I love it! We've got a good discussion and new reviews on here! This is great! The first thing I do when I get to work is checkand see if you all have written anything. You've made my day!

Our first comment is from a new friend, Cassiemoonlight:
percy jackson is fantastic. but i dont want percy to go with annabeth. i want him to go with rachel or calypso

Thanks, Cassie. Hmmm, I wonder why you don't want him to go with Annabeth. Are you Aphrodite in disguise? She's been trying to mess them up. I've got my own ideas about who Percy will end up with--but I'm not teliing!!!(not yet at least) BTW, Cassie, girls are always welcome to write in to us. In fact, whenever you do, we give you the greatest honor we can bestow and make you an Honorary Guy. No need to thank us--I know how grateful you must be!

Our friend Hacksaw Jim Duggan from the Guys Read blog has also written to us. He has something to say about Percy and Annabeth too:

Hey Carl & Bill
Thanks for putting me up on your blog. I just wanted to say that I've started the fourth book, and right now I'm on page 73. I'm already enjoying the book alot, especially the way Riordan does action scene after action scene. I can't believe Percy screwed up and couldn't go on his date with Annabeth!! That made me so mad!

Hacksaw Jim Duggan from Guys Read

Thank you, Jim. We always post the comments that you and your fellow readers send us. (click on your name on "Labels" at the bottom of this post to see some of your other comments) You're right--no one does action scenes like Mr. Riordan. But you've got a very different idea from Cassiemoonlight; you want Percy and Annabeth to end up together. Or it seems that way to me. Why else would you be mad that they didn't go out on their date? I tell you what, for two kids who "aren't dating" (according to Percy), they sure spend a lot of time together! As I said, I've got very definite ideas (or guesses) as to what will happen--but you'll have to wait!!

Our final comment comes from none other than our old friend Lord Vader:

Hi everyone,

I'm past the halfway mark of my reading club log. I finished Garfield: Older and Wider. It was great and really funny. A few had my mom and me really laughing. There is a "made you look" comic that I can't wait to try on someone. Garfield is by Jim Davis and this was the 41st book. The other book I finished was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling. I liked the book because it was a little different than the movie. I liked the basilisk (I think snakes are cool). I also liked the play on Tom Riddle's name.
Mikie (a.k.a Lord Vader)

Good to hear from you again, Lord Mikie--I mean, Vader. When He talks about his reading club log, he means the Catch theReading Bug program. If you take part in it, you can get prizes for reading! I hope a lot of you have signed up. If you live outside of Mecklenburg county, there's probably something similar at your local library.

Thanks for the great discussion! Keep those comments coming!

Carl

2. And the Champion is.......................

Why does Carl keep telling people I'm sick when he knows that sometimes my Sith work sometimes causes unavoidable delays!!!!!!!! What happened this time you ask(please ask)? Well I was working late Wednesday when all of a sudden I was surprised by an unannounced guest.

Me sensing through the force the presence of danger!! Notice how cool I react (well, sorta, um kinda?).

And what was I faced with? Look at the following picture only if you have a very strong stomach and are very brave!!!!!!!!!

The Sinister Sith Squirrel with No Name that attacked Carl just the other day (somehow he found out that Carl was not me and I was me; it's a long story so see my post on 4/15/08 for full details).

Well we battled Wednesday night and throughout Thursday from one side of the galaxy to the other. Finally both bloodied and bruised we called a temporary truce to let our wounds heal. His parting words were that the Lagomorph was not finished with me and neither was he with No Name.

So here I sit wounded most grievously but posting all the same (people tell me all the time I'm one heck of a guy, well sometimes, actually hardly ever).

And now for something completely different:

Well the game has been played and the timer run down!!!!

Now to announce the winner of the Boys Rule Boys Read Book Series Tournament:

(drum roll please, rat-a-tat,tat,
rat-a-tat,tat,rat-a-tat,tat)

The Harry Potter Series defeats The Chronicles of Narnia with the final score being 11 to 5!!!!!!

The Winner:

The Harry Potter Series!!!!!!

and The Runner Up:

The Chronicles of Narnia

Wow, that was an exciting contest with Narnia and Harry fighting there way to the final round!!! But as the saying from the Highlander movie goes: "There can only be one." (Although all the books in the competition are great and should be given a look at to see if you like them.) The one this go round is The Harry Potter Series; who knows about next year???????

Now for the Final Leader Board Results (those with 12 points or more with the top three winning prizes as promised; although I want to remind everyone out there that if you read you are a winner anyway and always):

1) Coming from way back in the pack to score 34 points (with 3 upset points and shooting eight 3 pointers in the last round!!!!!) to finish in first place on the Leader Board: The Mysterious Anonymous!!!!!!

2) Just being hedged out from the first place position to finish second with 29 points (with 3 upset points and shooting five 3 pointers in the last round) the Mighty Cyber Kid!!!!!!!

3) Finishing in third with a strong showing of 25 points (with 18 upset points and shooting four 3 pointers in the last round) is the Crafty Carl M!!!!!!!

4) Finishing in fourth with a very respectable showing of 17 points (with 11 upset points and shooting two 3 pointers in the last round) is the Quotable Melanie!!!!!!

5) Coming in fifth with a very nice showing of 14 points (with 0 upset points and shooting one 3 pointer in the final round) is the No-Nonsense Mona!!!!!

6) Finishing just behind Mona with a great showing of 13 points (with 16 upset points and shooting one 3 pointer in the final round) is the Savage Stephen!!!!!!!

Now it is time for 2 very special announcements!!!!!!!!!

1) In addition to the prizes to be given to the top three finishers, all those who finished in the top six will also receive special prizes.

2) For everyone who shot a 3 pointer we will give prizes to also.

Now for all to claim their prizes:

If you cannot get by ImaginOn, please give us your address so we can send you your prize. That's it!!!!!! Hope you all had fun, I know I did, and remember anyone who reads and tries their best, is a Winner in our book!!!!!!

Peace all,

Bill & Carl

3. Numb3rs & Abundance of Katherines

Abundance of Katherines by John Green

Now go here to see a cover of the book, The Attraction Equation by Charles Eppes (a book written by a character on the TV show Numb3rs; it's about "the mathematics of friendship").

I know! Melissa, Carlie & I were watching last night and we all went, "Holy Hannah, that cover looks identical to John Green's book!" (We're having one of our quarterly, let's get together and watch TV & movies all weekend long weekends.)

OK, maybe there are only so many ways you can add math equations to words, but still, it is eerily similar, no?

Meanwhile, we are still laughing that Charlie's book was originally picked up for publication no earlier than mid summer, and quite possible not till September, and the hardcover is now in the stores.

Oh, and for those of you keeping score at home, I've decided Colby Granger is my new TV boyfriend. And it is perfectly OK to have multiple TV boyfriends.

Edited to add direct link to Charlie's book.

4. Don Eppes Is My TV Boyfriend

I'd like to thank Carlie, the matchmaker between me & my new TV boyfriend.

This is how we met:

Carlie likes the TV show Numb3rs, with Don Eppes (FBI guy) and his math whiz brother, Charlie*. Now, Melissa and Carlie had tried to introduce me to this show before, during the infamous Flavor Flav weekend, I believe. But, it didn't take.

I was visiting Carlie a few weekends ago and we were watching Supernatural (pretty, pretty boys.) And Carlie then did the best Readers Advisory for TV ever. Picking up on a significant reason why I adore the show, she said, "You know, this show is just like Numb3rs."

"How so," I asked, wondering what a show about demons had in common with a show about crimes.

"Supernatural: two brothers and a Chevy Impala. Numb3rs: two brothers and a Craftsman house."

Casting it in the light of family drama and brotherly angst, I had to watch. How obsessed am I?

I chose to watch the Season 2 DVD rather than watch original shows this past month.

I am now slightly obsessed with the show, and Don Eppes. (Let's be clear: I'm not some crazy stalker girl who has confused Rob Morrow with the character he plays. And I know Don is not real.) Why I like the character: well, have you seen him? Adorable. But also? There is all the family drama and emotions; the two brothers who trying to reconnect, the father, the family dynamics. Sigh. Forget the crime solving, I like the conversation over dinner. And they bicker, just like Sam and Dean! Seriously, Alan Eppes is just like John Winchester; except nicer and not so psycho. And I don't think the Winchesters are Jewish.

Past TV boyfriends have included Brian Ash, Joe Dubois is my TV husband, and book boyfriend: Gen, of course, as well as Michael Jennings (and half of EEW's main characters). I think Will was one of my first book boyfriends.

So, confess. Don't leave me here on my own. Who is your TV/book/movie boyfriend or girlfriend?.

*edited to add: holy hannah, what a difference a hair cut makes.
