2. Life of Pi Trailer Released

The first official trailer has been released for the film adaptation of Yann Martel‘s Life of Pi. We’ve embedded the trailer above–what do you think?

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee cast newcomer Suraj Sharma as Pi Patel. Other cast members include Tobey Maguire as Yann Martel, Irrfan Khan as Older Pi and Ayush Tandon as Younger Pi. The movie will hit theaters on November 21st.

Here’s more from CLICK: “Life of Pi has been in some stage of production since 2003, with several names attached including M. Night Shyamalan, Alfonso Cuaron and Jean-Pierre Jenuet. Lee was the one who finally managed to get it to principal photography, based on a script by Magee who also wrote the rather nice Finding Neverland. As you can probably tell from the presentation above, The Life of Pi was also shot in 3D and the colourful visuals might actually make for a decent extra dimensional experience for a change.” (via Publishers Weekly)

3. The Great Gatsby Trailer Unveiled

The first trailer for Baz Luhrmann‘s highly anticipated adaptation of The Great Gatsby has arrived. We’ve embedded the trailer above–what do you think?

The film stars Leonard DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan. There will be a 3D version. On YouTube, a few readers have been tough on the trailer. After 145,000 views, it has earned 91 dislikes and some bitter commentary.

One reader wrote: “This better have actual twenties music in it and not play idiotic modern music. That would force me to bring my saxophone into the theater and redub the soundtrack.” Another quipped: “Looks terrible. One big messy spectacle. Funny there is not mention of Australia in the opening credit next to Romeo & Juliet and Moulin Rouge.” (Via NY Daily News)

4. Marcus Sakey to Host Travel Channel TV Series

Crime novelist Marcus Sakey will write and host a new Travel Channel television series called Hidden City. On his website, Sakey gave this description of the show: “It’s sort of Anthony Bourdain‘s No Reservations meets Castle.”

Throughout the twelve-episode series, Sakey (pictured, via) will journey to Anchorage, Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, the Florida Keys, Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.   The show debuts on December 5.

Here’s more from the release: “Sakey travels the country, city to city, to dig up the less-than-pristine history and reveal the untold story behind each locale, serving as a personal guide to each city’s unique past. The premiere episode explores Sakey’s hometown of Chicago, the city famous for reinventing itself through its checkered history. Viewers will meet America’s first—and maybe worst—serial killer, H.H. Holmes; walk in the footsteps of legendary gangster, John Dillinger; and dig into the 1968 DNC riots, when protestors clashed with police in a battle royale broadcast live to the world.”
