‘Blade Runner’ Animated In Watercolor

By Caleb Goellner

It’s still unclear whether or not androids dream of electric sheep as pondered by Philip K. Dick, but Anders Ramsell’s awesome Blade Runner: The Aquarelle Edition may just make you dream of your favorite sci-fi films in the form of animated watercolor paintings. Twelve minutes of footage from the artist’s animated translation of Ridley Scott’s 1982 thriller starring Harrison Ford are now online, demonstrating the power of 3285 aquarelle paintings put into motion atop the original film’s audio. As much effort as it likely took to piece together this sequence, Ramsell is apparently working to complete an aquarelle version of 117-minute feature (we will award bonus points for animating all the footage and extras from the Final Cut DVD).

Anders Ramsell has animated 12 minutes of Blade Runner in 3285 watercolor paintings.
