Some fun illos for a local crafty place,
Blue House Ann Arbor. Its hard to pass up drawing animals crafting. Nice to play with a more muted color palette to go with the distinctive blue color that they use.
Here's the back of the business card:
Blue House is a wonderful place where crafters can meet up, share their ideas, attend workshops, and more. Its been a great place where I've gotten to know many local and talented artists. And lucky me, I live very close by.
Yay. I just finished the final illustration for the Art Blocks for Ghana project. I decided to make a few minor changes to the final, for example the clouds don’t looks as cartoony as I initially planned them to be when I created the color comp. I wish the background were a lot smoother than it is though…but I’ve already changed it twice and I’m scared the third time would just make the whole thing look too muddy.
As you can see I was taking shots of the progress for you but unfortunately my camera ran out of battery during the process so I couldn’t document all of it…boo.
“Fly Home” Acrylic on 8×8″ wood panel.
I wanted to have fun with this one so I chose to do it in a really playful style. I also chose really bright and fun colors because that’s the first thing that pops into my head when I think of Ghana or Africa in general for that matter.
I hope this little guy finds a really awesome home to live in! I hope you guys participate in the auction this coming March 2011.
Let’s help build a fantastic children’s home for the kids in Ghana! YAY!!!
A few weekends ago, I took a silkscreening workshop over at
Blue House Ann Arbor. The last time I did silk screening was in my art school days (and that was a long time ago.) And of course I had to be the idiot who pulled emulsion on the screen while it was laying flat and got it all over the table. Blah.
Anyways, it did turn out well, since I got my evil robot design onto a few tees and a few scraps of test fabric, which I'll hopefully turn into a tote bag.
Here is one of my tees, hanging to be dried. Apologies for the quality of these photos as I took these with my iphone in a dark room.
So what next? Do I want to start my silk screening empire? I actually have a basement in which I can set up shop. But who knows, I already have way too much on my plate. It will be on my list of many things I want to do. It is alot of fun.
When I moved to Ann Arbor 6 months ago, I was looking for an artist/crafty community I can join and be part of. I discovered MICE, which stands for Michigan Indie Crafters of Etsy, and from there I was able to meet alot of wonderful crafty people in the area.
And now, there is a creative space opening up, called Blue House Ann Arbor, which sits right across the street from The Big House (and for those of you who don't know, its the University of Michigan stadium.) It is a crafty place where there are workshops and events, work from local artists, and they are celebrating their opening this weekend with a show, Saturday March 20th, from 11-5pm.
I will be there at the show with some of my art prints and goodies. I can't wait to see the space, and please come by if you are in the area.
Last night, I played around with making a Chickengirl Design banner using circle punches. I wanted to make one since I'm participating in two craft shows, one coming up this Saturday at Blue House Ann Arbor, and the Flint Handmade Spring Market show in May. More info coming up!
So cute!
ohhhh love it Jannie! Your animals are adorable as usual but I'm taking home that little puppy behind the sewing machine. Hope you don't mind. ;o)
And I adore that muted color scheme. Something about muted colors that just grabs me, don't know why.
Super cute! :D
Agree with Alicia about the muted colors, makes it look special somehow.
What a delight, Jannie! Your work never fails to make me smile. The palette is spot on, SO pleasing to the eye! Way to go, Chickengirl!
Fantastic piece Jannie! Before I even read your post I thought, 'love that muted palette'. haha!
cute animals!
It's adorable!! I really love the color palette! Sounds like a fun place.
Love it! I've always wanted to craft with cute animals!
