The last week has been a whirlwind of possibilities and good news.
My head is spinning! I'll be able to share at some point early next year, I hope.
Meanwhile…
One of the things on my to do list was to get my Etsy shop up and running again. I have original paintings and prints of my illustrations. I'll be adding a few more prints this week. Please take a look and see if there's something that's just right for gift giving or receiving.

You can read my post-PiBoIdMo post on Tara Lazar's Picture Book Idea Month
blog and comment there to win my Winter Dancing print. It's my first bit of public writing
outside of this blog and let me tell you it is nerve wracking!
Win this print on the PiBoIdMo blog!

I can't believe I've never made it into Psycho Donuts! Probably for good reason as it looks way tempting. But so hilarious. Love your pieces for the show :)
The artist reception and a crazy donut eating contest is this
Sat., June 2nd from 10AM to 3PM.
If you're local, please visit me at the reception (pretty please!)
Come and meet the artists in person and ask them what inspires them
to create crazy bug art! The art show is quirky and fun and you will be able to find your favorite or not so favorite bugs starring in bug art to purchase.
There will be a bee expert with info on his bee keeping and honey producing company:http://www.bluem
On October 22nd, the Bookstore Plus in Lake Placid is hosting a fundraising event for the Hurricane Irene-devastated Wells Memorial Library. There will be a silent auction of more than 50 items, including this pencil & watercolor sketch I drew for the occasion. Event details are HERE.
If you are in the area, please stop by and help out a great cause. Thanks to author Kate Messner for spreading the word and helping to organize the event.

Last night was my art show with Kim Weineck! It was very fun! We got a good crowd and there were lots of people milling about. The gallery looked great, the wine was a-flowing and the snacks were getting munched up! Can you believe I did not get ONE photo of the night?? I even had my camera on stand-by, my batteries were fresh, and, well, I was just too busy chit-chatting with all of the guests and did not get a second to even snap ONE photo. EEK! When I see others' photos, I'll place link(s) here for you to go check them out.
Anyway I want to thank everyone who came out and made the night so much fun and a success. In terms of sales (you REALLY want to know, right?) I sold one small piece and three or four of my small ornaments, and Kim sold a number of pieces— 4? 5? Something like that. I was quite impressed with all of her red dots! Good job, Kim! :)
I was so happy to see the people who came...
When I was in college, many of my friends had bands. They aways needed their friends to come out and see their shows. It was a really supportive thing to do. I did go to a lot of the shows, of course. But when I chose not to go for whatever reason (tired, etc.) I usually felt a little bad about it. In terms of supporting your friends, whether you are an artist or a musician, 'the big picture' of attending a show in support of your friend is pretty similar.
As an adult, I don't have a lot of art shows. Honestly (and this is not the REASON I don't have them but it's ONE of them) I don't like to feel like I m pressuring people to go. I know that might sound kind of lame, especially coming from me. Do I seem like Miss Self-Promotion online? Well, in real life, I'm not wearing a t-shirt that says "MY ART IS TOTALLY AWESOME! NOW COME TO MY SHOW!" I didn't send postcards. I only sent one newsletter email about it, a week and a half ago. Honestly, I LOVE marketing and self-promotion (and if I don't, I better quit now!) but I'm really not into bombarding people in person in my day-to-day life, unless the environment we are in is specifically inviting to it or created for it (i.e. trade show, conference, networking event). Sure I'll tell them about my show and I'm very enthusiastic about it, but I am not a hard-sell type of gal. Online, people choose to follow you, or they don't. People expect to sift through what they want to read, and what they don't. So, if my post catches your eye, I am so happy about that! But, if it doesn't, you're not going to grumble for five minutes about how annoying my post was, like I do about telephone marketers or door-to-door solicitations. If you're on Facebook, Twitter or Google+ and you're spending time there and you follow me, you want to see what I'm up to!
So the truth is, it means a LOT when people come out physically to support me at a show. I just wanted to give a HUGE shout-out to the people who came. I REALLY appreciate it. :) THANK YOU :)

Each year, my family is involved with raising money for the Children's Heart Foundation. This time I thought I'd try something a little different.I'm offering three original pencil and watercolor drawings for $150 each with every penny going to our team in May's Congenital Heart walk.
How it works:
Here are the drawings (pencil & watercolor on Magnani paper) created specifically for this cause:
On Thursday 4/19, I'll post each drawing individually here on the blog and on my Facebook page. If you would like to buy one, just leave a comment on either post.
On Friday, I'll randomly pick a name (if there is more than one name) and post the winning bidders on the blog and Facebook. Then you can email me your address and we'll work out the details. Note: This isn't an escalating auction. If your name is selected, then the price is $150 for the drawing you chose. And remember 100% will be donated to the Congenital Heart walk.
If $150 is too steep but you'd still like to donate, you can do so here. We personally appreciate each donation for this great cause.

As I've been blogging about all week, my TATTOOS series of original paintings is now finally live (woo hoo!) and for sale in my Big Cartel store! I enjoyed creating these paintings very much, and I am so happy to share them with you. You know, it is nice to offer a painting for sale when it still has some of that "just created" fairy dust all over it... and look, I have not just ONE but FOUR small but mighty pieces that fit that description. I'm proud to offer these and I hope you enjoy them. A few things I want to mention about these paintings:
• Each painting is 4" x 4". Thay are small and intimate works, but they are also detailed and richly layered paintings.
• My paint of choice is Golden products and Liquitex Professional series. I find these brands to make the finest acrylic paints on the market. I am telling you, in my experience nothing kills a burst of creative inspiration like bad materials (been there!) so I ALWAYS buy the very best I can afford. And believe me it shows, in the work and also in my dedication to it! So yes, good materials are not only GOOD materials but they assist and enhance the experience as well as the joy in creating the art itself!
• I am not planning to create any further pieces in this series, and for the time being and foreseeable future you will not see any more of this style of painting from me. This series was a "comet in the night" so to speak, when I needed the light of a shooting comet to reinvigorate my creative spirit! I am thrilled with the results, but this style of work is not a path I am actively pursuing at this time.
• I will not be selling art prints of this series of paintings any time in the foreseeable future. In thirty years, who knows? But I have made the decision to not sell prints of this series for a couple of reasons that are important to me.
So, enjoy! Thank you for your interest in my work, and I hope you enjoy these paintings as much as I enjoyed the process of creating them, and the final product. :) I appreciate that you are interested in following my creative journey, and I thank you for that and for being here!

I have recently created a small collection of brand new paintings. The style of the art is not what you typically see from me! Once in awhile I like to re-energize by working in a style which is not my day-to-day. These works are the final products of my latest creative excursion. The subject I tackle in the series is TATTOOS, and the people who have them. Tattoos have always been mysterious, fascinating, and endlessly interesting to me—the tattoos themselves, the reasons people get them, and what the marks personally mean to them. Then of course there’s the fact that tattoos are actually living, breathing art in the literal sense.
The four acrylic-on-wood paintings in this group, "Angel", Henry", "Bird" and "Siren" will be released for sale in my Big Cartel shop at 9 PM EST on Thursday, November 11th. I sure hope to see you there!
If you'd like to own an original painting of mine, head on over to the Ripple blog and purchase one of the above beauties for a $10 donation.
Why am I doing this—selling originals for $10? Because if it helps draw attention to Ripple so that more visitors come more frequently and purchase more ART. If I help Ripple to succeed at that, it's worth it!!
We are doing this to help the animal victims of the Gulf Coast oil spill disaster. Being so far away from the part of the country where this tragic event is happening and feeling helpless to do anything helpful of merit is not a good feeling. THIS is something I/we can do, to not only draw attention to the issue itself, but to draw eyeballs and open some wallets to help those poor beings who are losing their homes.
When you really stop to think about what is happening, doesn't it make you nauseous? I read somewhere, someone said "Too bad it is not people dying, because at least then, something would get done." I bristled at the thought of that, and spit that thought out of my mind like a bad oyster. But you know what? After the sentence settled in my mind, I realized how effective it was in putting this in perspective. I mean, think about it. How long did it take for REACTION, for HELP? And even NOW, the situation is so horrific - it is beyond comprehension not that something like this could happen, but that in the midst of a high-level ecological disaster, beaurocracy and big oil money can block truly fixing this problem. While our wildlife is suffering and dying, and out of that will come grave consequences for our natural ecological system. This disaster could actually be a big catalyst to bringing about change the ecosystem. And NOT in a GOOD WAY. We MUST do what we can do to help.
I am a confirmed optimist and cannot leave this post on a sour note. You know who is impressing me these days? Kevin Costner. He invested $24 million into this water-cleaning invention over ten years ago. No one bought it for years and years. Oil companies looked the other way. Until NOW. I mean talk about cool -- THIS is cool. The guy's a modern-day hero. Thank you, Kevin.

Here is my latest offering: a hand-painted-and-distressed one of a kind Funny Bunnies™ ornament. I've never had anything like this available for sale -- this is the Bunnies' first foray into the world beyond paper.
I can't believe I've never made it into Psycho Donuts! Probably for good reason as it looks way tempting. But so hilarious. Love your pieces for the show :)
