Though her parents operated a workshop for actors and playwrights in Atlanta, Georgia, in the 1960s, nothing else about her past would seem to fortell that Julia Roberts would become one of the biggest box-office draws in Hollywood history. In fact, she always wanted to become a veterinarian. But her older sister, Lisa, and older brother, Eric, both wanted to act. Eric Roberts was already making a name for himself in 1985 when Julia moved to New York City and joined Lisa in pursuit of an acting career. It was Eric who got Julia her first film role in Blood Red. Her first substantial film role was in Mystic Pizza (1988) followed by Steel Magnolias (1989). Her launch to fame, however, came in 1990 when she was cast as Vivian, the Hollywood Boulevard hooker in Pretty Woman. A mere five years out of high school, Julia Roberts won a Golden Globe award for best actress in Pretty Woman. According to Julia, her life since then has been a fairy tale.
