I heart these so hard core! Thank you, Hannah F for sending these! The lip-gloss one, especially, made me grin. :)

30. Let's show a little district pride for a change, Miss Everdeen. Hm?

"District 12, where you can starve to death in safety."
-Katniss Everdeen

I have 3 girls who are as obsessed with THG as I have been,  Sami even said to me "I hate you for introducing me to these books!  I can't move on- everything I hear reminds me of them."  I am sure that all 3 of these girls would have loved to star as Katniss in THG movie coming out next year.  We have all been dreading the announcement of the actress that will play Katniss.  I sense a little disappointment with the selection of Jennifer Lawrence- she wasn't a top pick for any of us. With that said, I do wish her luck- she has big shoes to fill!  I am not one to watch book to movie adaptations, but we will see...
Here are some pictures of my THG fanatics!  I am really going to miss these smiling faces next year!

I've got to get this shirt!

How cool is THIS cake?!?!?

33. Marv

A quick doodle of Marv from Sin City. I wasn't a fan of the movie or the graphic novel. Although, Marv is a very cool character and the movie and book look really great. I love black and white stuff.

41. Charm gets fan art

Isn't that gorgeous? Salina aka I'maCowgirl at Girls Horse Club drew Charm. It's Charm's first piece of fan art and I'm in love with it. Look at the detail on the bridle and the relaxed expression on Charm's face.

Hugs to Salina for creating such beautiful art. Salina, you're super talented and I hope you keep drawing. Thank you so much for this--it means a lot! <3

42. Fette's Vette

Self-promo fan art for an art sale I'm in this weekend at a local gallery here in North Bay. Gotta love the Fette. After all, if the song "Fette's Vette" by MC Chris has taught us anything, it's that Bobba is one gangsta Mandalorian.

43. Autumnal Art

At this point in September, school is well underway and summer a lukewarm memory...

Hooray! The season of school visits :) To celebrate, here are several fine thank you notes that I received during the Humbolt County Author's Festival last October. THANK YOU!

Lots of great detail and some very careful coloring in all of those letters.

Percy never looked so good. Kind of a Stoic, James Dean thing goin' on...

Awesome colors!

My school visit calendar is quickly filling for 2009. If you'd like me to visit, please get in touch ASAP. I am also booking days for 2010 and beyond!

Kids, send your own fan art to:

PO Box 731

Winthrop, WA 98862

44. Fan Art... and REVOLUTION!

I may have gotten a raw deal in the publisher department of my first book, but at least Percy and his fabulous pajamas still have a lot of fans! I love the bear drawings. Keep em' coming!

...and maybe someday I'll be able to make my case for taking this book to another publisher!

HOLD ON... That's a GREAT idea! Send any additional artwork and your very own Practically Perfect Liberation Ideas to:

THE FREE PERCY PROJECT!
PO Box 731
Winthrop, WA 98862

We'll do this grassroots-style for the internet age!

46. Fans rule

Day 11 of the tour:

Tonight’s appearance at Books Inc (Opera Plaza) was fabulous. Lots of rabid, smart, enthusiastic Scott fans and passionate arguments about David/Zane. For the record I like Zane better than David but prefer Shay to either one of them.

The most wonderful part of the evening for me was meeting London, who’s a guy from Sacramento, who drove all the way to San Francisco (which is at least two hours!) to tell me how much he loves my books. Isn’t that awesome? Also turns out he’s a Sacramento Monarchs fan and has even met their big star Yolanda Griffiths. I was deeply impressed and we got to talk women’s hoops which always makes me happy.

Equally happy making was the lovely Liset who gave me a beautiful piece of fan art:

Liset’s fan art

What a wonderful day. Thanks to Jennifer and Shannon for all your hard work. You guys are deeply splendiferous!

There’s lots more to say. And a tonne of your comments I want to respond to, but I’m completely knackered.

Tomorrow there are more events. Also we fly to Seattle.

Sleep now!

47. Fan art and librarians

Writer and artist, Chris Howard, was so inspired by reading Magic or Madness he painted a portrait of Reason:

It amazes me that my books have inspired some folks to commit art. Makes me all teary!

I’m also made teary* by the awesomeness of the vast majority of librarians. The recent kerfuffle over a dog’s scrotum has led many to think that librarians in the US of A are all for banning books over a single word. This is emphatically not the case. The American Library Association has a whole division that goes to battle to protect intellectual freedom in the US of A. They’re the ones who bring us banned books week. They fight the good fight! They are all godesses. (Even the boy librarians.)

Teariness also comes over me as I contemplate all the kids’ books that have the word “scrotum” in them. (Mostly because if I had one I would cry if these things were done to said body part. I mean, OW!) Via Read Alert.

*Best segue ever, eh?
