Helena Bonham Carter has always been one to take on more anomalous roles in her acting career. The Red Queen definitely does not differ from this pattern. With her abnormally large head and a tendency to order beheadings onto others, the role is one that Helena enjoys quite a bit.
She gave a interview with Den of Geek this week, telling us a little about her return to the role in Alice Through the Looking Glass. While the first movie, Alice in Wonderland, had little focus on Helena’s character, this one will not only show her more in present time but also give us a peak into her past.
And then when the sequel came around, I was just praying it was well-written. And it was. And in a sort of typically Red Queen egocentric way, I thought, “Oh, there’s a lot about me!” [laughs] And it all made sense. And there was lots of things to develop. So it was fun, because she wasn’t necessarily a big part in the first one. So it was nice to have something where you develop something and you work on something quite a lot. And I seriously do…I’m anal about my craft.
Helena Bonham Carter is no doubt one of those actresses who puts everything she can into a role, finding ways to better relate to her characters. She tells that she did a bit of research, using the Alice books, on her character. She seems to understand Iracebeth and her childish anger, “…I thought, “Well, she’s got too big a head.” So everybody’s head that was normal size was always a reminder that hers was abnormal. So that’s why she had to cut everybody else’s head off.”
Another face, or voice rather, from Harry Potter will appear in the film. Alice Through the Looking Glass, which is dedicated to him, is said to be Alan Rickman’s last film. Helena and Alan have worked closely many times before and she had a few words of consolation for those still mourning his passing:
Well, the poetic thing about it is he’s voicing a blue butterfly. And anything that I can tell Rima, his wife, to comfort her, is there’s that quote: “Just when the caterpillar thought it was all over, it became a butterfly.” And often, butterflies…you know, death can be seen as the end. It can also…I don’t know if it’s any comfort, but you can also see that it’s a point of transition.
Give me a moment to wipe my tears…

Disney has unveiled a new teaser for Alice Through the Looking Glass. The video embedded above offers glimpses of Mia Wasikowska as Alice Kingsleigh, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, and Alan Rickman as the Blue Caterpillar.
TIME reports that other members of the cast include Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Sacha Baron Cohen as Time. This film adaptation, a sequel to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, comes out May 27, 2016.

Many years ago, Alan Rickman chatted with J.K. Rowling to learn more about Severus Snape, a character he would play for a decade in the Harry Potter film franchise. In a goodbye letter that Rickman wrote to honor the conclusion of the movie series (published in Empire magazine back in 2011), his conversation with Rowling contained “one small clue, persuaded me that there was more to Snape than an unchanging costume.”
In his lifetime, Rickman never divulged the details about that clue. Recently, in light of the actor’s passing, one Twitter user asked Rowling what exactly she told him that convinced him to become the Hogwarts Potions Master. According to Vanity Fair, the Harry Potter series author shared that she told him “what lies behind the word ‘always.'”
People Magazine reports that like so many within the Harry Potter community, Rowling has been mourning Rickman. Disney has unveiled a teaser trailer for Alice Through the Looking-Glass. The story of this film adaptation comes from Lewis Carroll’s beloved novel. A release date has been scheduled for March 13, 2015.
The video embedded above features Mia Wasikowska reprising the role of Alice Kingsleigh. According to The Hollywood Reporter, other cast members from the 2010 Alice in Wonderland movie who have returned for this project include Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as The White Queen, Alan Rickman as the voice of the Blue Caterpillar, and Michael Sheen as the voice of the White Rabbit.

After the Harry Potter franchise was not nominated for Best Picture this year, Huffington Post writer Linda Kenney Baden suggested that fans of the boy wizard consider boycotting the Academy Awards.
Here’s an excerpt: “Enough already Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences– start nominating movies that are terrific — no matter the genre. Some of the nominated movies are boring, unwatchable, obtuse or totally uninteresting to moviegoers and not just the youth audience that makes up 80 percent of the cinema going public … Is it time for the movie public — the viewers — to engage in a national TV boycott?”
Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2 received three nominations for this year’s Academy Awards: Best Art Direction, Best Makeup and Best Visual Effects.

For many people, Alan Rickman = Snape. But for me, it's this play by Samuel Beckett that we saw a film of in Paris. At the time, Teen was Kid and she wanted to watch this twice.
Professor Severus Snape has been crowned the winner of the Harry Potter World Cup. Over at MTV News, 64 characters were pitted against one another to determine who is the greatest Harry Potter character of all time.
MTV News asked Alan Rickman on what he will miss about playing Snape in the films. He replied: “I won’t really miss anything because it’s been such an extraordinarily complete character to play. To go back…I don’t know what the scenario would be. It’s been so much about he appears to be one thing and then you find out a bit more about him as time goes on.”
MTV created a chart to record each round of the competition, including star characters like Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. After 7.4 million votes were cast, Snape emerged victorious against Weasley in the final round. Do you think the right character came out on top?
