1. Nation Books to Publish a Collection of Henry James Travel Essays

Henry James (GalleyCat)Nation Books will publish an illustrated edition of the Travels With Henry James essay collection.

According to the publisher’s announcement, Alessandra Bastagli, an editorial director, handled the acquisition of this project. This book will feature maps and paintings.

Michael Anesko, a scholar who studies Henry James’ (pictured, via) works, has signed on to write an introduction. Hendrik Hertzberg, a staff writer at The New Yorker, has agreed to write a foreword. 2. Katy O’Donnell Moves to Nation Books

Nation Books LogoKaty O’Donnell has been brought on to the Nation Books team.

O’Donnell will serve as an associate editor. She will work with editorial director Alessandra Bastagli.

Throughout her career, O’Donnell has held editorial positions at Overlook Press and Basic Books. Some of the books she has edited include Edward Baptist’s The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism, John Merriman’s Massacre: The Life and Death of the Paris Commune, and Eugene Rogan’s The Fall of the Ottomans: The Great War in the Middle East.

3. Cecily McMillan Lands Memoir Deal

Nation Books LogoCecily McMillan, a former Occupy Wall Street activist, has landed a memoir deal for her book, The Emancipation of Cecily McMillan.

Alessandra Bastagli, an editor at Nation Books, negotiated the deal with Roz Foster of the Sandra Dijkstra literary agency.

The book will chronicle McMillan’s journey from becoming emancipated from her parents at age 16, getting involved with the Occupy movement, and her experience at Rikers Island.

A student at the time, McMillan was arrested during an Occupy Wall Street demonstration in New York in 2012. During the protest, McMillan was involved in a fight with police and this year was convicted of assaulting an NYPD officer. She defended herself, claiming that she elbowed the cop as a reaction to his grabbing her breast. She served 3 months on Rikers Island.

4. Andrew McCarthy Inks Deal for Travel Memoir

Pretty in Pink actor Andrew McCarthy (pictured, via) has landed a deal with Simon & Schuster’s Free Press imprint to write a memoir on “the transformative power of travel.”

According to the release, the book will discuss McCarthy’s journeys to seven exotic locations from the Amazon to Kilimanjaro. Senior editor Alessandra Bastagli negotiated the deal with Kuhn Projects literary agent David Kuhn.

McCarthy had this statement: “Simply put, travel has changed the chemistry of who I am. It has rewritten the internal map of my life and consequently, altered the lens through which I see the world. In my experience, the power of travel to liberate and transform knows no limits.”
