1. leaving manila

Sorry I haven't updated -- The Philippines has been a bit hectic. Am still alive, all is good, and I'll try to write a longer blog entry than this on the plane tomorrow... Read the rest of this post

2. No Bookworm, I'm afraid

I was just told the Bookworm appearance in Beijing for tomorrow has been cancelled -- I'm not quite sure why or by whom or whether this was a Harper Collins decision or a Bookworm decision or (most probably) a series of miscommunications between the two: I was told yesterday that Bookworm "will not allow signing of books there since it is quite a few companies are involved," and then, a few hours later, told that I wasn't going. My apologies to anyone who was planning on being there to see me. Currently the only signing in Beijing is tomorrow at 9:30 am at the Book Fair.

I just did an interview with CCTV-9, along with a local literature professor and the director of the British Council, and I'll post here when I find out when it'll be broadcast.

3. Apologies!

A big apology to you all for my mass invitation to goodreads. I apparently invited everyone I've ever written to from my blog account. 400 people. I thought I was just inviting myself. Sigh.

But, that being said...I kind of like goodreads so far. And, like Fuse, I find it an easy way to show people what I'm reading. I never kept up with that feature on the blog, so now I've just put the goodreads button on the sidebar and people can click over if they're really interested.

4. Castles and Fairies (Which I Shall Deem Sufficiently Kidlit Enough)

Work has been monumental this week. Through the roof. Stuff upon stuff upon work upon stuff. Your poor little Fuse #8 blog is tired and I'm just not finding the links I need. I guess I can keep pulling out some reviews if worst comes to worst.

That said, this is neat. A little background first, though. All you really need to know are two facts about me:

#1: I think Faeries of Dreamdark: Blackbringer is the finest fantasy title I've seen in a long long time.

#2: I used to work at the Jefferson Market Branch of the New York Public Library System. I'm a touch fanatical about it, truth be told. Look at it:

What word comes to mind? Castle. Friggin' Greenwich Village castle. It was actually a courthouse once, but to my mind it'll always be a fortress.

Right. So you've established both Fact #1 and Fact #2 squarely in your cranium, yes? Well not long ago I received some links to these bizarre Urban Fairy Doors. Cute, huh? Yeah, so I'm not all airy-fairy normally, but I appreciate fine craftwork and some of these are pretty sweet. Then I see one that says Jefferson Market on it and my heart does this little pitter-pat.

Well, suffice it to say, they weren't talking about MY Jefferson Market. Lackaday. However, the Jefferson Market they are discussing seems to have enough innate drama in and of itself.

Thanks to author Sara Holmes for the links.
