Sorry I haven't updated -- The Philippines has been a bit hectic. Am still alive, all is good, and I'll try to write a longer blog entry than this on the plane tomorrow... Read the rest of this post

I was just told the Bookworm appearance in Beijing for tomorrow has been cancelled -- I'm not quite sure why or by whom or whether this was a Harper Collins decision or a Bookworm decision or (most probably) a series of miscommunications between the two: I was told yesterday that Bookworm "will not allow signing of books there since it is quite a few companies are involved," and then, a few hours later, told that I wasn't going. My apologies to anyone who was planning on being there to see me. Currently the only signing in Beijing is tomorrow at 9:30 am at the Book Fair.
I just did an interview with CCTV-9, along with a local literature professor and the director of the British Council, and I'll post here when I find out when it'll be broadcast.

A big apology to you all for my mass invitation to goodreads. I apparently invited everyone I've ever written to from my blog account. 400 people. I thought I was just inviting myself. Sigh.
But, that being said...I kind of like goodreads so far. And, like Fuse, I find it an easy way to show people what I'm reading. I never kept up with that feature on the blog, so now I've just put the goodreads button on the sidebar and people can click over if they're really interested.

JacketFlap tags: Apologies, Urban Fairies, Jefferson Market Library, Add a tag
Work has been monumental this week. Through the roof. Stuff upon stuff upon work upon stuff. Your poor little Fuse #8 blog is tired and I'm just not finding the links I need. I guess I can keep pulling out some reviews if worst comes to worst.
That said, this is neat. A little background first, though. All you really need to know are two facts about me:
#1: I think Faeries of Dreamdark: Blackbringer is the finest fantasy title I've seen in a long long time.
#2: I used to work at the Jefferson Market Branch of the New York Public Library System. I'm a touch fanatical about it, truth be told. Look at it:
What word comes to mind? Castle. Friggin' Greenwich Village castle. It was actually a courthouse once, but to my mind it'll always be a fortress.
Right. So you've established both Fact #1 and Fact #2 squarely in your cranium, yes? Well not long ago I received some links to these bizarre Urban Fairy Doors. Cute, huh? Yeah, so I'm not all airy-fairy normally, but I appreciate fine craftwork and some of these are pretty sweet. Then I see one that says Jefferson Market on it and my heart does this little pitter-pat.
Well, suffice it to say, they weren't talking about MY Jefferson Market. Lackaday. However, the Jefferson Market they are discussing seems to have enough innate drama in and of itself.
Thanks to author Sara Holmes for the links.
Ah Kelly, I thought it was a good thing and it made me feel a teeny, tiny bit special. LOL.
I did join because I have never managed to track what I am reading and maybe this will help. Especially since I have reached the age of not remembering much after I read it. Now I can at least point friends to GoodReads.
I have Library Thing but this feels different.
Hi Susan. You ARE special. And I certainly would have invited you if I had signed up the normal way :)
It DOES feel different. This is really easy to use!
Hee! I did the same thing with another networking site - I'm sure the 5 million people who got the message thought I was nuts. In any case, I was already on Good Reads and glad to have another friend. I'm new to it, but liking it's ease of use better than Library Thing.
Thanks for the invite, no matter how accidental! It's been fun watching the invites and friending bounce around the kidlitosphere!
I'm not sure it's that much easier than LibraryThing, but I'll use it and LT for two different purposes. LT is my archive database of books I own, and Good Reads will be for what I'm reading and for networking.
Fun!
Man, here I was, feeling all cool!
I was already on Good Reads and like it a lot.
I use it differently than Library Thing. LT is for the stuff I own and long discussions on specific topics. GR is for books I read (a drastically different list) and for more casual discussions...
I clicked too fast also and did the same thing. I am glad to know about the site though so, thank you!
Yeah, I'm another one who felt special when I got the invitation only to have my hopes dashed now.
I'm thinking about joining. Last year I was doing some kind of on-line library thing for a while. I'm not sure if this will be different. Unless there is some kind of interaction thing with Good Reads
I am glad you made the mistake! I played with it a little last night and it looks very cool.
I actually received two invitations from you for GoodReads, which made me feel extra-special. I actually tried GoodReads, and decided that for me, it was too difficult to keep up. I already list what I'm reading, and have read, on my blog, and keeping track of it in another place was too difficult. But I can certainly see the appeal.
What a great site - thanks - I like ALL CONSUMING for that too, but this is a good one!

Kris and Camille: Let me tell you that it makes me feel so much better that you have done the same thing!
Mary Lee: It has been, actually, a great joy to watch all the friending going on yesterday :)
Jennie and Gail: Of COURSE you're special. And, Gail, it does have interaction. You can comment on what people are reading, make recommendations, etc.
Good, Liz and Becky! I'm glad you guys like the site, in any case.
Sorry, Jen! I must have 2 e-mail addresses for you.
I was wondering what that was about, given that I'd never heard of it before. I'll probably join - why not - but I may want to know a thing or two about it first.
Thus far I've discovered only 4 invitations. And I joined once. I think. But I'm not letting it "look" at my address books.
