It seems to be too early in the preacher storyline for the Meat Man. Jesse Custer’s journey looks to be very different than how it originally went. I’m afraid Humper Dumper De Doo moment will not have the profound impact like the original series.

The funny thing about Supergirl is that I still see it being heralded as a breakout success by critics. I don’t disagree, but it’s interesting to see that a CBS show that pulls less than 10 million is heralded as such whereas a show in the same position in 2007 would have been quickly edging towards cancellation.

I’ve had a lot of fun with Supergirl so far. I think the writing is still trite at times, and it overexplains and reiterates points in a way that only network series do, but overall it’s been an enjoyable ride.

I guess it’s a sign of my age, but this is pretty much the only superhero tv show I watch. I appreciate that they’ve gone the opposite direction of the other shows by remaining bright and sunny for the most part (matched by the cinematography). At times the individual stories and villains can come off a bit pedestrian, but the show has a lot of heart and there’s always a scene or two that really hits it out of the ballpark emotionally. The show has a likable lead and supporting cast and I like the way they’ve softened Cat Grant and made her a bit more complex, rather than just made her a hardass boss. The series’ love triangle(s) also makes it work. And they’ve done a good job of including some interesting subplots that will likely pay off later down the line. With most of the other shows trying to be dark and gritty, I think this show is a breath of fresh air; it’s got more of a YA feel.

M girlfriend and I are all caught up on both shows. Her parents are only caught up on THE FLASH. I foresee another evening of headaches, phone calls, and 20 questions, because they refuse to catch up on ARROW.

I showed my daughter (6 years old, going on 7) the preview trailer, and she’s excited. I think CBS might have something here.

Basically it’s a video of CBS filing in a large audience of women (mothers and daughters) to watch the pilot. Then after a big standing O for the screening, then they bring out Melissa Benoist (the star of the series) to come greet the crowd. Then there’s a big group shot where they all scream “Supergirl!”. It’s cute.

No allowed in my region. Way to go with the marketing.

Did he say he’d be back as Thawne, or just that he’d be back? Because it’s possible he’ll be back as Harrison Wells somehow not dead anymore due to Eddie’s sacrifice.

Sadly, he couldn’t say much at all other than: “I’m coming back”. Either way, I thought Cavanagh was the best part of the show, so I’ll take him however one can get him!

Assuming that Eddie’s sacrifice holds, then Wells was never killed by Thawne, so theoretically still be alive. How that affects the accelerator explosion and its affects will be interesting to see how they handle it. From what had been said by Thawne, the accelerator may have still blown up, creating the Flash and others, but at a later date than his accelerated schedule. They’ve indicated they will definitely be dealing with parallel universes going forward, so they’ve got plenty of options. At least they don’t seem to be going the way of the Witchblade TV series.

Fan of comics and comicbook men on AMC but The Flash is a bad show. The acting and writing are second class at best. Bad even for CW

John, no. Just no. It might be the most exciting show on network, and is easily the jewel in CWs superhero crown. It’s everything a comic book adaptation should be.

Count me as “retarded” too. Few people are bigger fans of the “real” Barry Allen Flash. THIS isn’t that. THIS show simply uses the label ‘Barry Allen’ and cast a kid who looks and acts like Peter Parker Spider-Man. Barry’s laid back and serious. This guy is a loosy-goofy wisecracker. This is light years from the real Barry Allen Flash. —- (The New52 Flash is also not the real Barry Allen Flash–just another case of identity theft. It took Geoff Johns’s Rebirth story, sucked all the real Barry Allen out of it, and left us with a shell of a character. But even it is closer to the real Barry Allen than this TV series.) —— Oh, and fan ratings mean zilch; IMO, DC’s fans are the LEAST demanding fans ever. They’ll buy and love just about anything DC puts out; just look at the utterly weak resistance to the new Wally West–a lame Jason Todd ripoff while the very strong character built up by the likes of Mark Waid and Geoff Johns ceases to exist. I used to loathe Dan Didio for his reckless handling of DC’s properties, but he apparently understands that his customers don’t much care at all what’s between the covers–so long as it re-uses a familiar name.

Wow! I cannot believe there are people that think The Flash is a bad show. I could understand the argument that you are a Marvel fan and not DC or The Flash is your least favorite superhero or even that it does not interest you. But to say it is bad is moronic. I think the two morons above should check into the Betty Ford clinic.

I’m extremely saddened to hear this as I loved the show. The onscreen chemistry and writing were fantastic.

What a crappy show. They did a horrible job and it deserves to be cancelled. It was so boring and almost as painful as the pain I conflict each day in hell. Why would any true fan want to bring back a show that clearly failed at representing a great character, concept, and storylines? We are past ‘just getting a show’ and now should demand good writing, directing, and acting.

The show was quite worthy, not only its’ casting but its creative writers and directors. Kudos for an excellent attempt and hopefully the show will come back from “cancellation” hell!

To be honest I was not impressed with the show.
I mean it was OK by itself if it had not been an adaptation
of the graphic novel or movie.

But since it was ,it fell short, the main character didn’t have
the angst O f the main character .
Nor did the show of the darkness and chills of the movie or comic.

Sorry to see it go! I enjoyed most of the episodes, loved the great cast, and was truly interested to see what was going to happy next.

What I can’t understand is people who didn’t like it who are so gleeful to see it go. Was it hurting you somehow? Were you unhappy that the fans of the show were enjoying it? Were you put out that the cast and crew were employed doing a job they loved? What is it that makes some people so happy when other people fail? You know, here’s an interesting tip: if you don’t like something, you can just not watch it without rooting for it to fail. Crazy but true!

That’s a drag, had some slow episodes but when it was on it was on. It actually did the story from Hellblazer #1 and pulled it off. Would have been fun to see where a second season would go.

We fans rooting for Constantine to return to the big screen in a rebooted form and to be in the DC Cinematic Universe. The Rebooted Constantine Movie which would be titled John Constantine: Hellblazer will have an origin story. Warner Bros. still has Constantine but they will reboot the character which will not be related to the TV series and the Keanu Reeves film in 2005.

I have absolutely loved the first season of the Flash and am still looking forward to the second, but that finale was really bad. Something like half of its runtime was spent on Barry agonizing over a decision that literally every viewer knew he was going to make, and then the scene that’s supposed to be the big emotional climax of the season just fizzled with barely any explanation. After that we get a perfunctory speedster fight cut short by an obvious (if reasonably well done) twist, and then random cliffhanger out of nowhere seemingly just for the sake of having a cliffhanger and teasing the spin-off. It had all the problems of the earlier episode but none of the fun or momentum.

I would rather that it didn’t end on a cliffhanger, but Eddie Thawne turned out to be the big hero, which is a good twist. I actually was expecting Barry to save his mom and return it to the timeline unmolested by Reverse Flash.

Given that episodic serial television programs are now an established way of telling stories, will we begin to see continual seasons? Instead of a three month hiatus, the schedule is spread out over the entire year.

The entire series is filmed all at once, and either scheduled as a miniseries (like Agent Carter), or is released periodically. This allows the actors a bigger hiatus, Come in, spend two months filming, go do something else.

Perhaps instead of 26 one-hour episodes, we would watch 13 2-hour episodes, one a month. Like the successful NBC Mystery Movies of the 70s, you create a “wheel show” where each week is a different superhero series in the same time slot. First week: Arow. Second Week: Flash. Third Week: Super Who. Fourth Week: L.E.G.I.O.N. A two-hour movie, lots of excitement, lots of story, self contained, but with a seasonal story arc. The Internet explodes immediately, then simmers for a month, until the next episode. Repeat each week with a new episode. Repeats on cable (marathons?).

For the four “Sweeps Months” (Feb, May, Aug, Nov), you program a four-part story crossover! Flashbacks in each episode, filling in backstory! Introducing new characters! Backdoor pilots!

And here’s how you slap Marvel’s face: You schedule the show for Tuesdays or Wednesday nights. You partner with Fathom events to livestream the shows in HD in movie theaters! It’s like a decentralized Hall H! Writers, actors, talk for 30 minutes after the episode airs, via satellite. (No commercial breaks for the movie viewers, so the post-game fills the remaining time space.) You create a community of fans in cities across the country!

A great ride this first season topped by great episode with all sorts of come-ons for next. I do have 2 criticisms though:
1) The writers seem to be making Caitlin dumber. Case in point: she is a PhD working in high-energy/particle physics lab. She damn well better know what a singularity is. Yes, I get needing to explain it to the audience, but she should no have asked “What’s a singularity?”
2) The dilution of Barry’s speed. I can stomach some of it (barely, re: the Supersonic Punch and its 5 mile requirement), but there is no way I can suspend disbelief such that Mach 2 is the requirement for wormhole/time travel.
Again, though: great season!

Flash finale – superhero show as it should be, bravo – ’nuff said.

Like the season, didn’t like most of the finale, a little too drama ridden, liked the final 15 minutes, however. The “cliffhanger” isn’t much of one, because we know the flash survives. Looking forward to next season.

So a good freshman season.
Like any time travel story there are some big issues. I do not think that the did a good job explaining how all this avoided a time paradox. Reverse Flash killed mom, created the method that created Flash and the meta-humans, and basically is responsible in one way or another for everything that happened that season. Reverse Flash does not just die, but ceases to exist when his ancestor kills himself (Eddie dies, no kids, therefore no descendants therefore no Reverse Flash in the future). So if the guy that caused all the problems never existed he never could have killed mom, created the tech that made flash and the meta humans, etc., that world would have ceased to have existed and a new timeline, conceivably where the crew from Star Labs and Barry, etc., probably never met.
Eric Strehl-I noted the same thing with Catlin, how does a brilliant Ph.D suddenly not know what a singularity is?

The show and subsequent storyline did not explain the issues but the interviews prior to the episode did. Two timelines called Earth One and Earth Two will bring about Eobard Thawn still being a thorn in Barrys side and also will allow for Ciscos superpowered alter ego and Kaitlin becoming Killer Frost. Other interviews show we have Wally West coming, him being the one from the New 52 comics and somehow related to Iris and Joe. the helmet as seen in the finale is Jay Garrick’s sliver age Flash.

the problem as it appears is that once Eddie killed himself the whole timeline would have reset meaning that Barry would not become the Flash for I believe fifteen years so he would not be able to super speed to counteract the quantum singularity, and what was with the appearance of just the older flashes helmet.

I think everyone is ignoring some of the subtle things that happened at the end of the episode. The entire show we are blasted with worm holes, singularities and time travel. In this type of universe nothing is ever truly done. While Eddie’s dead body is sucked up into a black hole, we have to wonder (suspending our disbelief in so many ways) where it might end up. This whole thing, even mentioned in the episode, opens this show up to parallel universes, alternate timelines and so on. And the Golden Age Flash helmet popping in out of nowhere…..Awesome!!!! Bring it!!!!!!

Ralph, you shouldn’t be able to go back in time and change your own past in the first place, should you?

I think the whole paradox thing involving Thawne might be explained next season in that at that moment, it spawned an alternate universe in which Thawne never existed. This is probably going to lead to a Multiverse within the Flash series. We already got hints of that when Reverse Flash told Cisco that he has the ability to see the vibrations of different realities. They’re setting up for a Season 2 involving multiple different Universes. And with Eddie being sucked into the wormhole, I’m sure something will come of that.

We finally watched it last night, and I have to say I was pretty disappointed in it overall. The lack of logic on-hand was utterly stupefying, and that cliffhanger of an ending reminded me of one of the most annoying tics of Smallville (giving you only half of a ending until the next season).

The only moment that really worked for me was when Eddie did the very thing I kept telling Hannah they should do (jokingly) “why don’t they just kill Eddie?”. Though the paradox that now creates is something I hope actually gets addressed next season, but I have my doubts…

On the whole, I’d give this first season a B. I found lots to enjoy (Tom Cavanagh especially) and I thought it was better than any season of Arrow so far, but the “CW-ness” often detracted from the show and I thought it lost some steam when it came back from the break.

To all the DISPPOINTED posts. Get over it. This was one of the best show of the season. Did they go a little overboard with the “mom drama” yes. But Arrow, Supernatural, Grimm, Constintine and a number of other shows took theirs way to far this season. Flash gave us something fun to watch. Remember it is not real life it is a comic. They can do paradoxes and other things without having to explain it. Learn to relax and enjoy. I for one am looking forward to next season.

I thought overall the first season was GREAT!! I think they have done the best of any of the comic related stories with an origin and having some fun during the season. Tom Cavanagh was AWESOME as Wells/Thawne throughout the season and I’m hoping he DOES end up being the thorn in the Flash’s side we need him to be. Looking forward to less of the LOVE INTEREST aspect with Iris and more of the battling week to week to stop the master criminals/metahumans created by Wells. I’m also old enough to remember the old series and say this is great. Hope they continue with good writing.

Who is Hannah?

1) Is there such thing as a secret identity anymore?
2) What’s with the House of El and the sheer amount of planes with engine trouble?

I think it looks fantastic and it is going to be a huge hit for DC. Amanda and I were happy to see it being such a positive show and having characters that look interesting and a bit of a budget as well. Amanda said she sees a lot of mother and daughters watching this weekly…and i agree.

Amanda may really be onto something there, and that would delight me to no end. I’m thinking this is going to end up being the show that I wished Smallville was.

Did everybody see the same trailer as me? This show looks terrible in my opinion. I thought this trailer was fake and was a parody like the SNL Black Widow skit. I guess I’m not the demographic but geez, it looks like a bad romantic comedy sitcom.

I just watched this and I agree with Jimmy. Melissa Benoist was incredibly charming and likable in this footage, and it looks like a lighthearted, age appropriate story.

Did you want Supergirl to be Daredevil? I don’t think so.

One problem: DC doesn’t have any material even vaguely like this tone in print. I’d urge them to get “Cosmic Adventures in the Eighth Grade” back in print as a stopgap!

Jimmy and Kyle, It seems like we were watching two different previews.

Right off the bat, I must say I am probably still bitter that CBS is truncating Person of Interest’s next (and what is rumored to be its’ final) season to only 13 episodes. Now *that’s* a show with interesting, strong, smart, original women characters — Shaw, Root, Control, Zoe and the late, lamented Carter. So my following judgements are especially compromised:

I really did want to like this preview, but —- this version of Supergirl looks *so* derivative and boring. It’s Smallville-*lite* (and a lite copy of the weaker seasons at that — after it moved to Metropolis). Every beat of the preview seemed like something I’ve seen many times before. I think I am finally over watching someone learn how to use their superpowers for the first time. It use to be fun. Now it seems to be part of the mandatory TV and movie superhero checklist.

Were there surprises in any of this? I didn’t see one. I know there has to be conflict in the workplace, but does it have to be with the cliche bitch boss? Yawn! And then there’s the ‘coming up with the costume’ scene. And the ‘secret government organization’ scene. And the “I’ve got to tell you who I really am” scene.

And then they’re placing this in a world that has a full-on, public Superman? From what’s here, it only reminds me that I’d rather watch the real thing instead of a copy. But I guess that makes it true to its’ source material. Comic book Supergirl was never a very good character. The stories drawn by the talented Jim Mooney had some charm (along with some twisted Mort Weisinger gender politics) and Supergirl Adventures was a fun comic. But in the end, she was only a cipher created to market another ‘Super’ book.

On the other hand, the women on Person of Interest …

There is NO way my kids are watching this! I do not support misceganation and certainly not on a kids TV show. Also JIMMY OLSEN ISNT BLACK! You cant just go changing his race to be politically correct!

I think this looks GREAT. A family friendly superhero show that anybody could watch but could be incredibly influential young girls! Long overdue.

Consider this another big thumbs up from another Beat contributor. The trailer went over very well at the shop too. We… we were showing customers. Very excited to see this on the airwaves in the fall.

Hmmm. Two thoughts:
1) I had zero interest in this show before the trailer, but now I’m going to give it a chance.
2) I think giving it a chance will probably prove it’s not a show for me.

I’m really glad it has the tone it does; it’s a huge, huge welcome after Man of Steel and the trailer for whatever the Batman/Superman movie is. But I detect plenty of traces of what I think of as “CBS bland” in there already. The Cliff’s Notes is not the novel, however, so I’ll be glad to be proven wrong.

My God this looks amazing! I can’t believe that we might be getting a superhero TV show like this at all – if they can keep the production values high this could be better than the Flash (the current champion for “best superhero show on TV” right now among many contenders).

I wasn’t excited at all for this show – I was resigned to it being a dreary procedural based on Man of Steel – but this looks like it has the potential to be amazing. I hope the network supports it and it can find an audience.

Are you people watching the same trailer? It seemed a satire of a 1980s show…..but, by accident. The music was horrid. She seems an unsexy Supergirl as well. It was actually the most unoriginal trailer I’ve ever seen. And race change? No.

I wish that the secret identity was protected a wee bit better. That said, I think this series will rise or fall on the strength of Benoist’s personality. I think she’s up to the challenge. (That said, take a STRONG look at the Flash series for guidance. I hope they live in the same universe.)

What better way to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Crisis on Infinite Earths? A fun Supergirl that young girls can actually watch. Great.

This has absolutlely nothing to do with Mike carey’s Lucifer. You sometimes wonder with they bother buying rights to keep nothing from the original.
Well..that’s their money, at least some of it went to Mike’s pocket, that’s good.
