A group of Sai Magnen’s crude and belligerent brawlers are surprised by the Warrior of the River at Razor Pass. The battle is joined! Can the Winterdancer alone defeat so many fighters?
Reina, the Vicereine of Kulnas, believes she knows the Cryptic’s plan, but with the Ajan Warriors seperated, they cannot protect each other from his ravenous horde of enslaved creatures. Jessica Hoshi and her friends are forced to rely on their own powers to defend themselves while they race against time to reunite before the Cryptic completes his preparations to strike!
LadyStar: The Fury of the Venom Legion is a full-color weekly webcomic updated every Thursday exclusively on the Magical and Mysterious World of LadyStar!
The Battle of Kulnas Forge still haunts Thesian lore. The simple farmers and villagers of that forgotten region sincerely believed the white fire in the skies would be their last living sight. An invading army of ten thousand solidiers was swept into history that night, and the kingdom they served mortally crippled. Whatever or whomever saved Thesia did not remain to accept the gratitude of those who had survived. Generations later, on a cold deserted battlefield among the abandoned shields and weapons of the unfortunate, a single shining relic known as the Varcarel Jade is discovered by a foolish adventurer.
It may be the key to unleashing enough power to destroy the armies of a King, and now, only a fool stands between that power and the malevolent designs of the Cryptic Sai Vasek. If it should fall into his control, even Jessica Hoshi and the Ajan Warriors may be unable to stop him and his legendary Bloodsword from annihilating everything in his path.
LadyStar: The Varcarel Jade is the LadyStar weekly manga series updated every Monday exclusively on the Magical and Mysterious World of LadyStar!

“Be sure to visit the LadyStar Gift Shop often, because we’ll be having some fun special events just like the Magical and Mysterious World of LadyStar does! We’ve all worked very hard on our Gifts and Treasures and I really hope you like our new designs!”
“Z-bot to Hana. This is a Gamepowa Video Alert. Transmitting.”
“Errrr.. Report, Z-bot?”
“Data located by secondary criteria directive from Ranko Yorozu, ninth grade student. Keywords ‘tough girls’ returned two versions of Nim’s Island movie trailers. Standing by with secondary transmission.”
“Yeah uhhh.. heh heh heh… I told Z-bot to find some games for tough girls.”
“Yeah Ranko used my communicator to talk to Z-bot and I said I like adventure movies too!”
“Looks like a cool movie. Let’s go with it.”
“Yay!”
“Hana computers set to continuous-scan. Transmit when ready, Z-bot.”
“That’s Talitha’s barrette! See the one with the two leaves? The green parts are emeralds and the gold parts are real gold! Talitha wears it around like all of us and she can turn it into a big shield.”
“Hey Professor!”
“Hmmm?”
“Talitha-chan! Looky at your new design! Isn’t it super-cool?”
“Looks like this week’s Magical Treasure is our brand new Ajan Warrior of the Sunrise black t-shirt.”
“Ooh, nice design. I guess this means we’re going to have a new Sunrise page in the Hall of Warriors pretty soon.”
“Yeeeee! I can’t wait. The best part is Shannon-sama donates some of what the Gift Shop makes to benefit the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls! We got lots more gifts in Shannon-sama’s shop too. See ya!”
“Leila-sama! We got another e-mail question from my super-neat Jessie’s Letters page!”
“It is a question with profound meaning?”
“Uh uh.”
“It is a question that seeks the deepest mysteries of the universe?”
“Nope.”
“It is a question that will challenge our understanding of our existence?”
“It’s a question about being a drummer in marching band.”
“Oh, that’s easy.”
“Sometimes Leila frightens me.”
“Heheee… okay. The question says ‘In your story you said the drummers play a cadence. What’s a cadence?’”
“Cake question.”
“Cadence is when the drum section plays a rythym so the rest of the formation can keep time with their steps. We have four cadences in the Lions Band. The first two are full cadences.”
“That’s the one you start!”
“Yeah. Full Cadence Green starts with a roto-tom solo.”
“The other one is our ‘good morning’ cadence.”
“Full Cadence Gold starts with a full section downbeat and cymbal crash.”
“Good morning cadence?”
“We like to play Full Cadence Gold on Collins Circle over behind the school so if anyone in the neighborhood across the street didn’t hear their alarm clock we help them wake up.”
“Yay! Ohayo minna! It’s a bright sunshiney day!”
“Well, except for that one guy who stood in his driveway yelling at us that one day last year.”
“I think he thought we were trying to annoy everyone. Until we marched past his house in parade formation and played ‘National Emblem’ during after-school practice. His wife baked cookies for all of us the next day and brought them to the band room. She said he was so proud to have a parade in front of his house he almost cried. What a nice old couple too.”
“That’s cool. What are the other two cadences?”
“We have one called a ‘Silent Cadence’ if we’re marching up to a performance area at parades. There’s a couple hundred yards where bands aren’t allowed to make a lot of noise because it disrupts the bands in the performance area, so we play that cadence on the rims of our drums.”
“That’s the tick-tock cadence. All drum rims, traps and glockenspiels.”
“That’s the one that sounds like a carnival! I like the tick-tock cadence best.”
“The fourth one is a simple corps cadence. One snare plays the measure downbeats. We use that for starting formations on the field.”
“Now which one do we play in the tunnel at Brown Stadium?”
“Full Cadence Gold, baby.”
“Yeah!”
“Maximum volume. Maximum power.”
“Yay! Arigato minna-san! If you got a question or a comment or just wanna say ‘hi!’ you can send me e-mail on my Jessie’s Letters page and we might even get to answer your question right here on our site! Ja ne!”
“Konnichi-wa, minna-san! We gots a Varcarel Jade update today ’cause it’s Monday and that’s when we do one of our comic updates. We gots another comic that’s called Fury of the Venom Legion but that one is updated on Thursday. Did you know that there’s a site called The Web Comic List that tells aaaaaaaall about our comics? You can even vote for us and they gave us a number button too!”
“That’s our ranking out of almost 11,000 comics.”
“Yay for us! If you read comics on The Web Comic List be sure to add our comics to your favorites and visit us every week for new pages! Ja!”
“Hiiii everybody, it’s me Jessie! This week’s LadyStar Chapter of the Week is a real neat one. It’s from our first book, The Dreamspeaker, and it’s a chapter that’s called Swifty River. It’s about when Talitha found this real spooky forest where these little lights float around the trees and a pond. There’s this little bridge that’s real important later too. We hope you like our story! Be sure to visit us every week for a new best chapter! Ja!”
“Hi I’m Cici. We made a new menu and put it on all of our pages even the ones with comics. My part of the menu is a new page that’s all about LadyStar and how we get to be warriors and stuff. Jessie says that if you don’t know very much about our stories and comics you should read that page ’cause it has everything about our books and our site too.”
“Good job, Cici. The new page has a lot of good links too if you’re new to the site and need to find your way around. Have fun!”
“Wow, Hayashi doesn’t make announcements very often.”
“So listen up.”
“We’re going to try a new update schedule because we have two comics now. On Monday, we’re going to update the Varcarel Jade with a new page, and on Tuesday, we’re going to publish new chapters from our book series.”
“Solid.”
“On Wednesdays, we’re going to have Teko’s Magical Treasure of the Week from our Gift Shop and a Gamepowa update with Commander Acey and Z-bot, and on Thursday, a new color page from The Fury of the Venom Legion web comic. Then every Friday is…”
“Ten Update Friday.”
“Booya.”
“And on Saturday we will have previews from the next week’s comic pages.”
“That’s a good schedule, Talitha-chan. We should start today.”
“Stay tuned folks. There’s more on the way on Ten Update Friday!”
“Hi everyone! It’s me Jessie! We’re starting a new thing on our site because we like having new stuff. So we’re going to do something called the ‘Chapter of the Week’ from all our best stories. This week is Chapter 15 from The Palace in the Sky which is the second book in our series.”
“The chapter is called ‘The Solar System Reconstruction Committee.’ It’s about the time we helped Cici build a new model of the solar system ’cause some mean kids at her school broke the first one.”
“And the best part is you can read it for free just like all our books! We’re gonna have a new chapter every week, so be sure to check back soon for more stories!”
“Well see, Hayashi is super into planets and telescopes and stuff and when they said Pluto wasn’t a planet she got mad so Yorozu decided to try and cheer her up and it’s been a running joke ever since.”
“Around here, it’s a planet, so it gets its own category. The Professor will tell you all about it. She knows like the whole history of how it was discovered and everything.”
“Check it out! That’s a contra-bass! There’s only like ten of them in the whole world or something.”
“Where’s Goofy? She’s the saxophone expert.”
“She ran off with that ring, I don’t know where she went though.”
“I’ll go find her!”
“That thing is seriously frightening.”
“That guy can play, though. That’s the Aadams family theme from television.”
“I found Jessie!”
“Hiii everybody oooh looky a contra-bass saxophone. Super cool!”
“Okay what’s the deal with this thing?”
“Well, there’s a whole bunch of saxophones. I play soprano and alto. Those are the highest pitched ones. Soprano is B-flat a major second below concert pitch. Alto is E-flat a major sixth below concert pitch.”
“But this one is double E-flat.”
“Yeah, it’s two octaves lower than my alto. You transpose music for it up two octaves and a major sixth.”
“That’s all pedal range stuff about an octave or more below the bass clef.”
“How do you know all that?”
“It’s music! It’s easy! There’s four E-flat saxophones and three B-flat. Sopranino, Alto, Baritone and Contra-bass are the E-flat ones and soprano, tenor and bass are the B-flat ones. I played a bass sax one time at the music shop and it had an ‘A’ key so I could make it sound like a big truck horn!”
*giggle* “Jessie’s funny.”
“I wish she was that good at her other classes.”
“Well there you have it, folks. The giant saxophone attack from the land of Goofy. We out.”
