Mr. and Mrs. Potter reunited on Thursday when Bonnie Wright (along with Chris Columbus–director of the first two Potter films) attended a performance of Daniel Radcliffe’s new off-Broadway play Privacy.
Bonnie later posted a photo of the three to her Instagram and shared her thoughts on the performance:
“Reunion! Congrats Dan on another stellar performance. Google is terrifying and I’m now scared to use my phone. Can say no more. Go see Privacy!”
A photo posted by B O N N I E W R I G H T (@thisisbwright) on
The documentary-style play is inspired by the actions of Edward Snowden and takes a critical look at the concept of privacy in the digital age. Privacy runs through August 14 at Public’s Newman Theater.
In a series of “round ups” we have been summarising the many movies, plays and other projects associated with Harry Potter alumni. The YA cast from Potter includes the trio and J.K. Rowling’s ‘Big Six’, so it’s unsurprising that they’re on all sorts of exciting endeavours!
A new trailer and poster for Dan’s upcoming spy-thriller Imperium have recently been released, which you can view below – he will be portraying nervous undercover FBI agent / white supremacist, Nate Foster. The film is set to be released in August. Entertainment Weekly reports:
“The director says — worryingly — that the more he learned about the topic, the more timely and relevant it seemed. “We’re witnessing a surge in far-right groups all across Europe; in some cases they’re nearly winning national elections,” says Ragussis. “We have a stereotype of what it means to be a white supremacist, but when I began collaborating with Michael and doing my own research, I was stunned by the depth and the extent of this movement.”
Ragussis made every effort to authentically portray the experience of going undercover, as well as the modern-day white supremacist community. “There’s a large white supremacist rally in the middle of the film that we had spent months researching and planning,” the filmmaker explains. “There were so many details that had to be captured to try to make it real and authentic. I’d read about them, seen them, watched videos of them — but to actually see it come to life by our own hands was something I’ll never forget. Someone even called the news and erroneously reported a Klan rally in their neighborhood! So to that extent, I suppose we did our job.””
Dan will also star in Jungle – a psychological thriller based around the story of Yossi Ghinsberg’s memoir of his trip to the Amazon, which was included in The Discovery Channel’s I Shouldn’t Be Alive.
Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) has been cast as a series regular in CW’s The Flash. He will be portraying Julian Dorne – a Central City Police Department crime scene investigator. Read more here.
Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) recently wrote, produced and directed short movie Medusa’s Ankles with Potter co-star Jason Isaacs, which is set for release this year. She also raised money for Film Aidby making her own ‘Come Dream With Me’ t-shirts, which got the support of many Potter co-stars, and even J.K. Rowling herself!
Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) is currently starring in Me Before You alongside Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who).
He is also (almost) confirmed to be co-starring as ‘Lenny’ in Terminal, along with Margot Robbie , Simon Pegg, Mike Myers and more. The film is being produced by Harry Potter producer, David Barron. Read more at Matthew lewis.com here.
AlfredEnoch (Dean Thomas) will be returning to CB’s hit show How to Get Away With Murder for its third season on September 22nd.
Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Katie Leung (Cho Chang) recently took the Ilvermornysorting tests on Pottermore, both being sorted into the same house as J.K. Rowling: Thunderbird:
Katie Leung is set to star in The Foreigner– a film based on 1992 novel The Chairman, and co-starring Pierce Brosnan and Jackie Chan.
Lastly, Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown) has continued to make videos on her eponymous Youtube channel (here). She also appeared in Call the Midwife, and is set to star in Modern Life Is Rubbish, directed by Daniel Gill, who is known for being assistant Director on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
Hope you’re looking forward to all these upcoming features from our favourite YA Potter actors as much as we are! Be sure to take a look at the adult actor round ups, split into Part 1 (here) and Part 2 (here)!
‘My favourite idea I always had [about] Ginny, that David Yates and I always played on, was that Ginny was this warrior,’ Bonnie told us. ‘That was something I really enjoyed. I was such a tomboy as a girl growing up and I loved that idea you don’t have to be girlie to be a girl.’
She also said that the huge ensemble of characters in Harry Potter is one of her favourite things about the stories:
‘You find something within them all that lives inside you’
The detail of the sets was also one of her favourite memories, Bonnie said she loved being able to pick up a Daily Prophet and actually read it, and really get into acting as a part of the story.
When asked if she had any loyalty to Gryffindor, Bonnie, who is most definitely a Ginny Weasley fan, said:
‘As a strong, devout Weasley, it could only be Gryffindor’
After answering the intricate sorting quiz on Pottermore, Bonnie (to her delight) is sorted… into Gryffindor!:
‘I feel relieved… I feel proud’
Watch her chat with Pottermore below, and watch Rupert Grint’s sorting here:
At just 25, Bonnie Wright has not only featured in Harry Potter, but has three short films to her name, including her latest,Medusa’s Ankles, which stars Jason Isaacs.
Isaacs spoke toThe Metroabout starring in this latest project:
“She’s been to film school in America – she has become a talented young director and adapted an A.S. Byatt short story,” Jason told Britain’s Metro newspaper. “I was paying a hairdresser. It was only a four-day shoot so I practised on a dummy at home. My hands were covered in cuts from the scissors. Having met Bonnie when she was 11, to see her direct in her twenties so confidently and well was a huge pleasure.”
On whether it’s strange to be directed by somebody so young, whom he knew as a child:
“It happens when you work for so long,” he said. “You work with people who weren’t born when you started in the profession. It’s interesting to work for people on passion projects because no one is up their own a**e. It’s about telling good stories, which is why I started this business.”
When asked about his character in Harry Potter, Jason said that Lucius Malfoy was ‘a coward and a bully who was afraid of the future and wanted to stay in the past’, adding that ‘you don’t have to look too far to see the same rhetoric coming out of some politicians now’
Being the lovely man he is, Isaacs also took to Twitter to promote fellow Potter star Tom Felton’s star role in Risen:
We’re glad to hear Bonnie is doing such a great job! Make sure you keep posted on her Twitter here to see Medusa’s Ankles, and read more about the short film here!
Today, Bonnie Wright announced her latest project via Instagram. She will be directing an exciting new film adaptation of Man Booker Prize winner Medusa’s Ankles – a short storyby A.S. Byatt.
The short film will reportedly star Harry Potter‘s Jason Isaacs, as well as Kerry Fox and Chanel Cresswell, and will be produced by Andy Surry through BonBonLumiere, founded by Bonnie in 2012. Casting for the adaptation can be found here.
The story is part of a 3-story collection called The Matisse stories, published 1995. The stories follow the lives of women linked in some way to the art of Henri Matisse.
“Susannah, a middle-aged classics professor, is enticed into a hair salon by a Matisse print and finds an unexpected comfort in the hairdresser, Lucian. This relationship builds but takes a dramatic turn when the salon is remodeled and the atmosphere and characters entirely change.
The story’s plot proposes an illusory release through violence. Through its juxtapositions and patterns of imagery, the story addresses in the protagonist the inevitability of physical decay, the loss of a sense of identity with one’s body.”
‘These three stories celebrate the eye even as they reveal its unexpected proximity to the heart. For if each of A.S. Byatt’s narratives is in some way inspired by a painting of Henri Matisse, each is also about the intimate connection between seeing and feeling–about the ways in which a glance we meant to be casual may suddenly call forth the deepest reserves of our being. Beautifully written, intensely observed,The Matisse Storiesis fiction of spellbinding authority. “Full of delight and humor…The Matisse Storiesis studded with brilliantly apt images and a fine sense for subtleties of conversation and emotion.”
Great work, Bonnie – join us in wishing her luck on her latest project!

In the 1860s, the introduction of its first named series of education books, the ‘Clarendon Press Series’ (CPS), encouraged Oxford University Press to standardize its payments to authors. Most of them were offered a very generous deal: 50 or 60% of net profits. These payments were made annually and were recorded in the minutes of the Press’ newly-established Finance Committee. The list of payments lengthened every year, as new titles were published and very few were ever allowed to go out of print. Some authors did very well from their association with the Press, but most earned very modest sums. Many of the books in the Clarendon Press Series yielded almost nothing to publisher or author; once we exclude the handful of exceptional cases, typical payments were in the range of £5 to £15 a year.
W. Aldis Wright.
The outstanding financial successes of the Clarendon Press Series were the editions of separate plays of Shakespeare intended for school pupils and (increasingly) university students. The first to be published was Macbeth in 1869, but it was the next to appear – Hamlet in 1873 – which became something like a bestseller. In its first year, Hamlet sold 3,380 copies; 20 years and five editions later, 73,140 copies had been accounted for to the editor, W. Aldis Wright (a fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge), who received over the years some £1,400 for this play alone. The whole CPS Shakespeare venture brought Wright an income of about £1,000 a year throughout much of the 1880s. To put this in context, the total of all royalties paid to authors in the late 1880s and early 1890s was about £5000 a year; in some years Wright was taking about 20% of that for his editions of Shakespeare alone.
A broader view of the Press’s payments to its authors on the Learned side can be gained by looking at three sample years: 1875, 1885, and 1895. In November 1875, the Finance Committee minutes listed 99 titles for which authors were being paid annual incomes, the total sum being paid out was £2,216. In November 1885, near the peak of publishing activity in the Clarendon Press Series, the Finance Committee minutes listed 238 titles generating revenue for their authors; they earned £4,740 between them. In November 1895, there were 240 titles leading to payments of £5,076. For most authors, their individual incomes were modest; in 1875, the median income was £7 16s, in 1885 it was £7 18s. However, in 1875 four authors and editors earned more than £100: Liddell and Scott received £372 each (for their Greek Lexicon), Aldis Wright received £220 (for various editions of Shakespeare’s plays), and Bishop Charles Wordsworth £152 (for his Greek Grammar). In 1885, eleven were earning more than £100, including Aldis Wright earning £934, Liddell and Scott each earning £350, Skeat earning £270 (for philological works), and Benjamin Jowett earning £261 (for editions of Plato’s works). In 1895, there were ten, including Aldis Wright with £578, J. B. Allen with £542 (for works on Latin grammar), and Liddell and Scott with £389 each.
These authorial incomes should be set against average academic incomes in Oxford. In the later nineteenth century, although there was much variation, the average annual income for a college fellow would be in the order of £600, usually made up of the fellowship dividend plus the tutorial stipend. In the wake of the Selborne Commission, in the early 1880s a reader would be paid £500, a sum might well be augmented by a fellowship dividend; professorships attracted £900 per annum. It is clear that, although most authors’ incomes were extremely small, the most successful authors, both inside and outside the Clarendon Press Series, were at their height earning a significant addition to their salaries through payments from the Press.
The incomes of the most successful were far in excess of what they would have earned had they sold their copyrights outright. On the other hand, those around the median probably earned less than a lump sum payment would have brought in or, at least, they had to wait longer for it. As a minor compensation to those who were paid small annual sums during this period – though it is unlikely that they would have known it – the purchasing power of the pound was rising between the mid-1860s and the mid-1890s, so their later small payments would have bought them more than their earlier small payments. The pound in a person’s pocket was actually worth more at the end of the nineteenth century than it had been at the beginning.

Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) was in attendance from the premier of his post-Potter film, Wasteland. (Pictures can be seen below) The film premiered at the BFI London Film Festival on October 13. Wasteland was also previously shown at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this year. Examiner reports:
"Wasteland" is a bold take on a much-loved genre. A heist film, an underdog story and a thriller delivered with unexpected originality. There is not a published date for a wide release into the U.S. According to imdb.com it is slated for a wide release in 2012. 56th BFI London Film Festival runs from October 10 through October 21.
Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) also attended an event this weekend. Ms. Wright attended Oxfam charity organization's 70th anniversary celebration. (Pictures can be seen below).

quite a harsh judge of the series, but I was over the moon with this
final film; I think we went out on a high note."

MTV News has posted an exclusive clip from The Women of Harry Potter, a special feature to be included on the "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" Blu-ray and DVD.
In the clip, author JK Rowling talks about the showdown between Professors McGonagall and Snape. Ms. Rowling admits that in a very early draft of the film's script, screenwriter Steve Kloves had Harry Potter facing off against Snape, but she was not satisfied with that.
"I don't like the marginalization of women when the fighting breaks out.
We get to fight too. I really wanted that," she explained. "In the book, Minerva
McGonagall is the one who does it and for me it was very important that
she did that."
Bonnie Wright, who plays Ginny Weasley, is also included in the clip. On McGonagall's role in the film, she says:
"Teachers have been so repressed in how they see Hogwarts. Obviously
from its new sort of ruling, you can see that they're just itching for
their fight back against evil and I love that. Professor McGonagall, she
just completely shows what she's made of."
