Mention a favorite book you like to read over and over each Christmas, and you can win a signed print, your choice, of my holiday art. Just leave a comment with the title and I'll add your name to the list. Get your comment in by midnight on December 31, 2012. In the spirit of procrastination I'll announce the winner on January 2, 2013. Merry Christmas!
I enjoy reading The Night Before Christmas, but I often find that I will pick up the newest Debbie Macomber Christmas book. It seems like she has a new Christmas themed one every year!
Looks like we have a winner! Karin, your name was drawn! Just let me know your choice, and email me privately with your address and I'll get your print in the mail.
P.S. One other post was added to the drawing. For some reason it didn't show up. Thank you for participating Linda!
Before we know it this snowman will need a new hat - for 2009. We haven't had a first snow in southern New Hampshire yet, but it's certainly cold enough this week for one!
Maybe if you wish hard Gina.. :o) He certainly looks magical and even looks like he knows something we don't.. so who knows, maybe snow is on the way :o)
One of the things I miss the most living here in Texas is the magic of that first snowfall of the season. When you wake up to the world transformed by ice and snow, gleaming like crystal gems, the last of the fall leaves shine like bright berries sprinkled with powdered sugar.
I miss that kind of quiet. A field in the country, hearing your footsteps as you crunch through the top layer of snow. And then there were the times when everyone came together for sledding, snowball fights, and getting creative with building snowmen. I hope kids today get to enjoy those same simple pleasures. I hope we encourage our kids to unplug and experience those old fashioned wonders. And most of all, I hope as adults, we give ourselves the time to enjoy those small moments again.
Here is my submission for Illustration Friday's "Little Things" prompt. It is a little painting 2.5" x 3.5 titled "First Snow". It is a little child standing in the doorway watching the first little flakes fall. It really is the "Little Things" in life that help us understand what's important. A few of my friends asked me to put some gifts in my Etsy shop for the holidays. I used to be big time into gift making. When I was 19 (29 years ago) I started my own hand printed greeting card business here in Topanga. I would silkscreen in my studio, a limit of 3 colours and I would hand deliver, wrapped with a ribbon in a paper bag. I had tons of takers, they were all wonderful people and all of their friends would hope to receive one of my cards. They were printed on hand made paper, limited and signed editions. It was a unique little business that made people happy at the holidays.

I love the shape of this house and the colour of the tiles, a little different from your usual bright style. Val, please alter your settings (Show comments in a popup window) so that we can admire your art while commenting. Thanks.

this is sentimental for me val! the color of the house and the way it was standing- i like what you said, too about The Little Things in life, and for sharing about your little business before-it really sounds great.

What a sweet painting! You are right, it's the little things in life that make things special. How fortunate those friends were to receive your hand made cards.
Love your excess post also. Such pretty packaged homes.

Lovely, lovely image and very sweet sentiment.
It was also neat to find out that you are from Topanga. We're practically neighbors, I work in Woodland Hills.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday!

I don't usually post videos, but in anticipation of Earth Day, I want to share the Bio DaVersity Code. The science is good, but I must reluctantly admit to being one of the few people on the planet who hasn't read The DaVinci Code or seen the film. Even without this background, the video works for me!

"Little Women." Over and over.
I enjoy reading The Night Before Christmas, but I often find that I will pick up the newest Debbie Macomber Christmas book. It seems like she has a new Christmas themed one every year!
