1. Save Pets While Shopping?

Did you know by simply doing your shopping you could help save an animal from being enthanized?

Through BringPetsHome.org, more than 140 online retailers, including Macys, Amazon, Zales and Walmart have joined the cause this holiday season. Consumers can log on to these retail sites through http://www.bringpetshome.org/ and automatically a portion of the purchase (amount varies by retailer) is donated to shelters nationally.

According to the Humane Society, 6-8 million animals enter pet shelters every year. Due to financial constraints, approximately 4 million of these pets are euthanized annually before being reunited with their owner or adopted by a new family.

According to the ASPCA, the ongoing economic downturn increases the burden–as many as one million additional dogs and cats are in danger of losing their homes in 2009 with fewer donations coming in. Shelters are feeling the strain on their capacity.

In addition, one shopper will be selected and have $5,000 donated to the shelter of their choice and the winner will receive a $5,000 online shopping spree, courtesy of Intervet Schering Plough Animal Health.
