Here's another art school picture. The troll is very influenced by the art of John Bauer. I was also trying out a dry brushing technique with the ink. Some 1940's and 50's cartoonists would deliberately let their brushes get stiff with ink and than do line work and dry brushing with them.
AWESOME!! too bad it's a bit blurry? So are you illustrating anything now? Your work is ridiculously good!! I wish I could draw that well.. argh I'd give anything now to give up my stoopid digital arts degree go back in time move to Canada and do an arts degree!! you guys are brilliant.
Very cool technique Eric! You need to group all of your characters into a book some day.
Very interesting character Eric! Reminds me a bit of the Larry MacDougall trolls. You should show us a scanned version with more details :-)
Cool!
Hey, have you tried Chinese brushes? I love them!
Whoops! Sorry everyone...this is from my digital camera, later on I'll do a proper scan that's not so blurry.
Thank you so much Mariya!Your stuff is rediculously good, and you're in school! Where are you getting your degree?
Thanks Frank! I've thought about just compiling something and selling it on Etsy....I keep meaning to ask if you sell prints.
Thanks Daniel! I wasn't sure who Larry Macdougal was when I remembered him from Spectrum 14( I think...)That's a big compliment. As I said, sorry about the bad photo, I will do a proper scan of it at some time.
Thanks Viviane! I always see chinese brushes at the art store but haven't yet picked them up. I'll give them a try.
They are great fun! I recommend wolf-hair, most expressive I think.

Wolf hair? For real?
You know what, I have no idea... they are called that, I always figured it was just a grade of brush. There's wolf, goat and squirrel... Seems wrong, making wolves into brushes... hm!!
Sorry about double-commenting, no idea what happened there.
Aaah I looked it up and it is just grades. The wolf brushes may be made made with hair of horse, or rabbit...
Somehow I'm a little disapointed....

Well I guess if there was a brush made from real wolf hair it would still be a wolf brush... so there's always the possibility... always the possibility...
That's true...
