I write books for both children and adults. If dogs could read, I would write for them, too. And horses. And all the corvids. And hummingbirds. I worked for an hour the other day, to show a trapped hummingbird the way out of a greenhouse. Two days later, a hummer flew to within six inches of my nose and hovered there for 10 seconds--an eternity. It had a loose feather on its face, yes, it was the same bird. Astonishing.

I have published over 70 books in about 14 years of writing professionally. I am just now getting around to writing some of the things I wanted to write when I began. My best ideas were too big for my skill set, then. I am hoping that has changed. Hoping is probably not the strongest verb choice to describe the actual feeling, but possibly the least embarrassing. Newest release: A Resurrection of Magic: Skin Hunger. It's the first of a YA fantasy trilogy, deep and dark. It was a finalist for the National Book Award for young people's literature 2007. Sacred Scars, the second in the trilogy, is off to copyedit now. It was amazing to write, kept me up many nights. This morning I have no idea what do do with myself.
