About C.V.
I never imagined I would ever write a book! I always enjoyed writing, but professionally I have been a teacher and para-educator for almost 30 years. The idea of a mystical African-American woman caring for Jewish refugee children all came to me in a dream--a dream so vivid, I had no choice but to get it down on paper. Within days, I had my setting: war-torn London during the Holocaust of WWII. Of course, I didn't want my historical-fiction novel to bore my audience of 4th-6th graders, so I threw in a little bit of magic, tied with a ribbon of mystery. Nettie Parker's Backyard also contains important data regarding slavery and prejudice in the American south. Always the teacher, lessons about other kinds of intolerance are tackled as well, illustrating to children that we must accept and embrace our differences, rather than let them separate us.
