About Rachel
"Where standeth the poet? Where standeth ye?"
"Three steps from death -- from every direct -- north, south, west, east. So standeth the poet, so standeth me."
But when I'm sitting, I'm generally sipping tea, playing chess, talking with friends, or -- case in point -- trying to create interest in my work and move it to that fifth direction: publication.
I have three children's unillustrated mss: Allswell,
a lyric piece about an idyllic long ago land in which children, adults, and a marvelous cast of Trolls live in harmony -- a bucolic paradise. Events occur to disturb this magical and enchanting utopia but Allswell ends well. Educates and entertains. Ages 6-10 (and then some)
The other mss are The Polar Bears' Christmas and The Polar Bears' Hanukkah. Reinforces the values of friendship, family, and community, amid various conflicts/resolutions braved by an endearing ensemble of arctic animals that breathe vigorous new life into these ageless holidays. Ages 8-12
I've a YA novel as well: FLIP, a coming-of-age mystery set in 1959 small town USA. A bold young heroine, initiations, invocations, rough toughs, fist love, first loss, sexual (con)fusion, social pressures, forming, conforming, promises, betrayals... It's a club! It's a gang! It's Tom Sawyer meets the Mob, Wordsworth's Lucy racing with Kerouac under the moon culminating in a graveyard murder mystery that begs for a sequel.
I know all the publishing, agenting, organization, and research ropes -- I just can't scale them. Every time I try -- it's the hangman's noose.
So I'm putting this out there with the sincere hope of reaching and kindling the interest of someone who can lift me into that fifth direction. Thanx.
