1. Christian Fraternities and Sororities

By Eric

A couple weeks ago, I had the chance to attend the 2012 Unity Conference for the United Council of Christian Fraternities and Sororities (UCCFS). It was only 3 days of events, but those 3 days were nothing short of amazing. Last summer, I posted about the 2011 National Convention for Alpha Nu Omega, Inc. This year, we met up again. But this time, we got together with brothers and sisters in Chicago, representing:

Zeta Phi Zeta, Inc.
Delta Psi Epsilon Christian Sorority, Inc.
Men of God Christian Fraternity, Inc.
Gamma Phi Delta Christian Fraternity, Inc.
Alpha Eta Theta Christian Sorority, Inc.

The idea of six different Greek Lettered Organizations -- six different Christian Greek Lettered Organizations coming together for the sake of improving ministry is quite dope. We all have different colors, calls, leadership structures, annual goals, etc., but we’re all united under the cause of being the light that the world needs to see. No pride. No competition. All love. More Here...

2. Secrets of a Newlywed: What Can You Do for Him?

By Carmen

On my blog, I've been running a series called Secrets of a Newlywed, where I open up and share some of the lessons, insights and understandings—the little secrets—that have made my marriage the wedded bliss that it is. Like anything else, they are easier said than done. But I know from personal experience that when I do manage to live them out, I've seen what beautiful fruit they bear in my relationship with my husband. So, today, I share another with you: What Can You Do For Him?

As God’s followers, we are called to be servants. Through the prophet Isaiah, God says, “Pay attention, O Israel, for you are my servant.” In the New Testament, Jesus washes his disciples feet, commanding us to serve one another and that the last shall be first.

Whether married or not, we should be looking for ways to serve others and making efforts to do so. But within marriage, those opportunities especially abound, and we should make it a habit to look for ways to help our husbands. More Here...

3. The Power of Stories

Be warned: This post contains spoilers for Doctor Who Series 5

When I was a child, we had a book called Fifty Famous Fairy Tales. I loved to read it over and over, digesting the strange plot twists and pondering a world in which the good and virtuous were rewarded not with gold star stickers and pats on the back, but with fairy godmothers and kingdoms, and where the battle between good and evil was about dragons and princes rather than name-calling bullies. Somehow, it all seemed to matter so much. Even though it was fantasy, my elementary-aged mind sensed that it hinted at something beyond itself, an ultimate something that was bigger than reality or fantasy as I understood them. It's been many years since I first encountered pumpkin coaches and poisoned apples, but I was recently reminded again of that ultimate something that lurks at the heart of great stories.

Last year's season of Doctor Who was filled with the usual sci-fi twists and turns and time-bending elements that make it a favorite show of millions, but toward the end of the year, it drifted into the familiar territory of my childhood fairy tale fantasies.

Without going into needless detail, the climax of the season found one character, an ordinary human man, sacrificing himself to guard the body of the love of his life. Because of twists I won't go into, he is not subject to normal aging at the time, and he spends two thousand years doing whatever it takes to protect a box that contains the woman he loves. In the narrative of the show, he becomes a historical legend, a myth that is always connected to the two-thousand-year-old box, even as it makes its way through history and becomes a museum piece. No one knows who the man is or even if he is alive. He's a statue, except when he's needed. He never leaves the box's side. More Here...

4. Permissible Numerology

I'm normally a pretty huge critic of numerology.

I remember once I saw Chuck Missler speak. Besides being a general prick in most respects, his lack of exegetical prowess is replaced with a lot of Zionist numerology. I don't think I lasted very long before deciding whether it would be quicker to throw my shoe at him or at myself. Truly, I wanted to push him off the pulpit and preach my own words or something.

I have since learnt to avoid such things especially people full of hot air, and who trust more in numbers than in God. People who, instead of the sufficiency of Christ from the normal way of reading the Bible, to proclaim a greater knowledge in reading the Bible as a patchwork tapestry with a secret message. It confounds me that people would want to preach on something as dull as a magical pattern to the Scriptures, and speculations on the end-times in comparison to the supremacy of Christ. More Here...

6. 10 Keys to Being a Healthy Pastor

Great reminder from J.R. Briggs’ blog on the importance of pastoral health.

Todd Rhodes had some good reflections on healthy rhythms of a pastor. Simple yet wise words.

1. Let God restore your soul daily.

  • Psalm 23. Matthew 11:28.
  • Worship. Prayer. Solitude. Listening. Bible reading.

2. Give your marriage priority attention. More Here...

7. Encouragement: Your Life is a Body of Work

I believe that a life well lived is not recognized solely by our shining achievements, but rather a mixture of those achievements with a faithful persistence through mundane and through failures. In that space, people get a glimpse of the story God is telling through us.

Have courage to keep walking, have courage to keep creating, have courage to allow God to speak into you, and then speak through you. You are in a unique place in an unfolding story of grace, redemption and restoration. Your life is a body of work, not just a highlight reel.

Keep moving, and keep your eyes up.

8. Jesus Misunderstood: Heavenly Over Earthly

"Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”"Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?”" John 3:3-4 (English Standard Version)

Nicodemus was not alone.

All through the Gospel of John, people had continually misunderstood Jesus. There is a wonderful binary opposition that occurs in the book where Jesus is talking on a vertical level between earth and heaven, and everyone else was thinking on a horizontal view from man to man. That is, Jesus is talking about spiritual things, and the followers are thinking about earthly things.More Here...

9. Friendships and The Christian Teen: 5 Steps to Freedom from Unhealthy Friendships

By Roderick Evans

Many challenges face the Christian teen today. One of the major challenges is the courage to maintain their walk with Christ among peers and friends who do not have a relationship with Him. Some struggle greatly in this area which results in the Christian teen in friendships that are bad for them. Many Christian teens know they are in bad friendships, but do not know how to walk away from them. In this week’s post, we want to provide some instructions for freedom  from friendships that are unwholesome and unhealthy.

1.
Consider your walk with the Lord above their feelings. Some teens do not want to hurt the individual’s feelings. They are concerned about what the others will think of them. However, you are being unfair to yourself if you remain friends with someone that could hinder your walk with God and affect your life in a negative manner.

For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10)

2. Trust God for wisdom on what to say and do. More Here...

10. Your Body Matters

By Sharon at SheWorships

“Who you are speaks so loudly that I can’t hear what you say.”

Those are the words of Mayor Cory Booker, who I discussed in my last post as part of my reflections on the Willow Creek Leadership Summit. Today I’m going to conclude those reflections by highlighting the life and message of another speaker, but Mayor Booker’s words were so relevant that I couldn’t help but post them.

Our actions and our attitudes have tremendous power. They can either amplify our words or drown them out as irrelevant and meaningless. I’m sure you can think of an individual or two whose demeanor or conduct is so unattractive that, even if you agree with some of what they say, you can’t help distance yourself. Whatever their stance is, you don’t want to be associated with them.

On the other hand, there are those individuals whose lives are so authentically devoted to God and neighbor that their words are dripping with authority. More Here...

11. Forever Stray

Obviously you and I
can’t compromise
It’s in your voice deep in the stare
within your eyes
Oh I can’t travel on through life,
you by my side
Go pack your things, don’t miss a thing
don’t say good~by

Please go away not just today
Lose your way
And don’t come back, try to return
 any other day
Nothing was said about something
not forgave
Please go away not just today
forever stray

I gave it all only to fall
beneath the feet
Of a lover at one time
I’d love to meet
Who brought me shame gave all the blame
cornering me
All alone a desolate home
now forced to bleed

Please go away not just today
Lose your way
And don’t come back, try to return
 any other day
Nothing was said about something
not forgave
Please go away not just today
forever stray

I don’t have time
for some conniving schemer
A vicious troll
nobody knows, a lazy dreamer
Get off your ass, contemplate that
I’m now the screamer
So get hell out of my house
cause it’s not me or...

Just go away not just today
God,
Lose your way!
And don’t come back, try to return
 any other day!
Something was said about nothing
not forgave
Just go away not just today
forever stray!!

13. Innuendos

(Talking)

{Everything seems backwards to me
but, something’s getting done
I can see you on the sidewalk honey,
waiting for mail to come
Tell the neighbors I said hi
and that we’ll see them late tonight
What would I do, what would I do
without you?}

(Semi slow)

Lit a smoke up with the cell phone
just the other day
Answered alarm clocks thinking maybe
you would call today
Washed my laundry with cat litter
tearing out the stains
My head’s not on since you’ve been gone
in disarray

(Ch~semi fast til last 2 lines)

Took out the dog,
let in the trash
painted the windows
sipped on some gas
Mowed my driveway to the highway
I suppose...
You’re never coming back to me
those innuendos

(Semi slow)

Oh, I could say you were my destiny,
too cheeky
It’s all been said time and time
and time again
Yea, I could scream my love, I love you
out the window
But, I can’t think or get done nothing
without you friend

those innuendos

(Crazy sounding)

Yeaaaaaaa
I went to bake the cat
then feed a turkey
but, couldn’t get
the oven working
Those hateful things you said
all in my mind

The white coats soon
will come to get me
thinking they have means
to set me
back on track, imagine that,
me refined??

15. Going Down

(Opening, sung slow & sarcastically)
Mm~m~m~m
Was it that you had been let down so suddenly?
Was it due to fact, you met your match, oh, how could it be?
Maybe you had always been the one,
Talkin' trash and flailin' guns,
Why is it surprising to you now...
B*tch, you're going, going down

(Rockin')
I hate your hair,
the way you stare,
the way you're dissin' me
I can't stand the zip
flippin' from your lips
and ta think you were once kissin' me
Man, I'm so surprised,
no one's gouged your eyes out,
maybe then you'd see
Step up to the plate girl,
accept your fate girl,
it ain't gonna be e~e~ea~s~y

Oh yea, A woman dressed like you
shouldn't be able to live
With all the hell you have ta give
Dolled up so grand and fancy,
ta get in their pants see,
yea, I finally see, I see
And now with all of your runnin',
you'll get Yea what's commin'
and it's commin' and commin'
Yea, girl it's all commin' from me~e~e~e

forcibly shoved in your pocket
and a bullet with my name
I thought that that's what you wanted,
did nothin' but, flaunt it,
Why weren't we on the same page?
So for all the guys out there
watchin' their backs in terror
Just a flip of the wrist and it's done
Countin' my ten paces,
two young hearts to the races
Shot guns sound, oh, they sound
and you're gon~on~on~e

17. We Carry On

Thumb and forefinger wears out baffled chin
Fictitious epics to the end of sin
We carry on
We carry on
Oblivious each hope is gone..

Prayin' to no one, concealin' guns
Yea, chased ‘round no choices but, ta run
A world on fire, unaware
That no one's livin' way up there

Chaos blatantly flaunted, is that what you wanted?
Is that what you wanted? Wanted
Offsprings sexually taunted, is that what you wanted?
Is that what you wanted? Wan~aw~aw~a~te~eh~ed
Wan~aw~aw~a~te~eh~ed

All mutilated thoughts of yore
Burn embers longer than before
Our time is now and it was then
But, f*ckin' when? Yea, f*ckin' when

Thumb and forefinger wears out baffled chin
Fictitious epics to the end of sin

Inbred are rules right from the start
Yea, he, she broke my anile heart
Where were you then? Mmmmmm baffled chin
You've been our sin!
You've been our siiiiiiiiiin!

Thumb and forefinger wears out baffled chin
Fictitious epics to the end of sin

Kneelin' down beneath cold concrete
Realists gigglin' from the streets
A chance to meet, perhaps to greet
A bullsh*t tale ‘o misery

19. Atrocity

Whether it's the tappin' of her heels or fragrance

Makeup and jewelry too

Clothes she wears, readily vacant

Soliciting by you

Lit her smoke right after drinks came

It's cold and wet outside

Conversations long but, simple

Your mind's been on her stride

Within just a blink, she can make ya think

Bring ya to the brink of ec~sta~sy

Searing to the touch, grasp you in her clutches

 Stringent moves and such, atrocity

Cold as can be

Cold as can be

Fallin' for, adoring

Atrocity

Lit up in trance

Inherent circumstance

The craziest romancin'

You'll ever need

She's off to primp her nose and straighten

pantyhose and wear

Noticing you've rose, no mistakin'

The blankness in your stare

Don't cha think your better half'll stay up

waitin' till the dawn

While you're drawn to blissful sins ya

A call from way beyond

Within just a blink, she can make ya think

Bring ya to the brink of ec~sta~sy

Searing to the touch, grasp you in her clutches

Oh, was it worth it?

Thoughts race around

Was she not perfect

going down?

Funny how you

drowned the sound

Of your better half

comin' ‘round

It's over now

It's over now

Within just a blink, she can make ya think

20. Unique

I can feel you, you're starin'

comparin' to me

Turn your head turn away,

my monstrosities

you don't know, I don't care,

assume it's always fair

how I feel, how I feel, how I feel

Inches tall,

watch me fall

under your judgement call

should I cower down kissing your feet?

Think you're mighty, the best

well, you're soul is grotesque,

so much better? Not better than meeeeee

Try ta change, rearrange me judge mentally

what is not to like in this profile you see?

I am one of a kind, it's your problem not mine

Jealousy? Over me? Get a life,

I'm unique

Dare I sweat,

you can bet,

somewhat nervous am I

but, I'll walk right up to you

with my head held high

as you sneer due to fear

and you know just not why

in denial you defile all like me

Try ta change, rearrange me judge mentally

what is not to like in this profile you see?

I am one of a kind, it's your problem not mine

Jealousy? Over me? Get a life,

I'm unique

Like an atom bomb

think your heads screwed on

lashing words with the glares

damned to carry on

Never see all of me

and what's underneath

How lonely it must be to be you

Try ta change, rearrange me judge mentally

(should I cower down kissing your feet?)

I am one of a kind, it's your problem not mine

(I'll walk right up to you with my head held high)

I'm unique

Try ta change, rearrange me judge mentally

what is not to like in this profile you see?

Fallin' for, adoring

Atrocity

Lit up in trance

Inherent circumstance

The craziest romancin'

You'll ever need

She's off to primp her nose and straighten

pantyhose and wear

Noticing you've rose, no mistakin'

The blankness in your stare

Don't cha think your better half'll stay up

waitin' till the dawn

While you're drawn to blissful sins ya

A call from way beyond

Within just a blink, she can make ya think

Bring ya to the brink of ec~sta~sy

Searing to the touch, grasp you in her clutches

 Stringent moves and such, atrocity

Cold as can be

Cold as can be

Fallin' for, adoring

Atrocity

Lit up in trance

Inherent circumstance

The craziest romancin'

You'll ever need

Oh, was it worth it?

Thoughts race around

Was she not perfect

going down?

Funny how you

drowned the sound

Of your better half

comin' ‘round

It's over now

It's over now

Within just a blink, she can make ya think

Bring ya to the brink of ec~sta~sy

Searing to the touch, grasp you in her clutches

 Stringent moves and such, atrocity

Cold as can be

Cold as can be

Fallin' for, adoring

Atrocity

Lit up in trance

22. Unique

I can feel you, you're starin'

comparin' to me

Turn your head turn away,

my monstrosities

you don't know, I don't care,

assume it's always fair

how I feel, how I feel, how I feel

Inches tall,

watch me fall

under your judgement call

should I cower down kissing your feet?

Think you're mighty, the best

well, you're soul is grotesque,

so much better? Not better than meeeeee

Try ta change, rearrange me judge mentally

what is not to like in this profile you see?

I am one of a kind, it's your problem not mine

Jealousy? Over me? Get a life,

I'm unique

Dare I sweat,

you can bet,

somewhat nervous am I

but, I'll walk right up to you

with my head held high

as you sneer due to fear

and you know just not why

in denial you defile all like me

Try ta change, rearrange me judge mentally

what is not to like in this profile you see?

I am one of a kind, it's your problem not mine

Jealousy? Over me? Get a life,

I'm unique

Like an atom bomb

think your heads screwed on

lashing words with the glares

damned to carry on

Never see all of me

and what's underneath

How lonely it must be to be you

Try ta change, rearrange me judge mentally

(should I cower down kissing your feet?)

I am one of a kind, it's your problem not mine

(I'll walk right up to you with my head held high)

I'm unique

Try ta change, rearrange me judge mentally

what is not to like in this profile you see?

I am one of a kind, it's your problem not mine

Jealousy? Over me? Get a life,

I'm unique

23. *Shad's First "Rap" Oh Yea, You Know It {That's What I Thought}

Cou,

cou,

could Shad be back and havin' a rap attack?

Ya,

all the wheat white bread

thinkin' their somthin' bad

You all be fallin' down,

hittin' ground

suckin' my smack

Shad may be PoeticMistress

but, goes deeper then that

Cut the lights assume

a night ya soon

won't forget coz

Shad be keyin' da mic

rappin' a triple threat

Oh Nasio's got a flow

some say that can't be beat

But, now I'm runnin' my words

in the club and the streets

Oh, yea, you know it, mmmmm

Try to control it, ha

You gonna blow it, yeaaaaa

That's what I thought

Sh,

sh,

sh,

Shad is automatically fanatically hip

Spewin' oozin' crisp words

"ow!"

razor sharp from da lip

People who dis me

wanna kiss me

hidden secretly

coz no rapper's a better flapper

with da beat, that's me

Oh, now you feelin' it,

revilin' it,

you've got ta move

I see you swayin'

to da rhythm

rappin' Shadows groove

No need for "Hey yo!"

to and fro

flickin' a bic

Get off you asses

join da masses coz

da Shad be sick

Oh, yea, you know it, mmmmm

Try to control it, ha

You gonna blow it, yeaaaaa

That's what I thought

No need ta throw it, mmmmm

Get out and show it, ha

Lay low, enjoy it, yeaaaaa

That's what I thought

    Lingering under

    way down deep below

    is hidden a truth

    no one wants to show

    The world is on fire

    we're secretly singed

    for concealing compassion's

    we hide deep within

    TaKe Me As I Am!

    {not for what you're expecting}

    TaKe DoWn ThE WaLLs

    of your hatred rejectings!

    "I will come about

to full rise in the end

just to watch your kind cower

    for loss of once friends

    Expressions, dear one,

should be voiced out with tact

    but, never concealed

    causing self heart attack..."
