I need to draw cats more often. So fun. Can't you picture her purring at your feet? But only because she wants to...because she knows you worship her.

Quick coloring of a sketch. This illustration makes me wanna do several of this character in this chair...laying over it, sitting up, etc. Also, I think I have a tutu + glasses addiction.

Working on a promo postcard. Need to add a background to the front still. Then I'll have to figure out where to place text for my info. Hopefully I can do it in some sort of clever way. Then onto color, printing and mailing! I'm thinking of going with Overnight Prints...still checking into that.

One of the images I'm working on in Photoshop, going to finish this and others today as samples. One thing I'd love to add to my digital work is texture. I haven't quite figured it out yet...not even sure it'd fit into this style. But just to start playing around with the idea I took a blank "paper" in PS and added a sepia color and used different brushes to try to give it texture. Then I added it as a layer under my drawing and set the drawing layer to multiply. (Ha! I couldn't even use those words together in a sentence awhile back. If you are learning Photoshop, keep at it! Eventually you figure out a thing or two.) I'm thinking I don't like it, looses brightness. But I do like trying to figure it out so I'll keep at it. I have a couple of announcements I need to blog about...well, one may have to wait. In the meantime, I've been hanging out over on facebook. A lot. Would love to see you over there!

10. Sweet Girl

Did  this sketch a few months or so ago. Digitally painted her just for fun tonite. Kept it light and simple. Sometimes I do a great job of over thinking things which results in some overworking. Sigh. Maybe I should pretend every project is just for my personal amusement.

13. Wonderful Imperfection

Painting in progress in PS. Maybe down the road I will look back on my first digital works and cringe a little. But for now I am totally enjoying them and love that imperfect is the only way I know how to go.

15. Four Sweet Babes

Four sweet babes all together. Have a 5th I had digitally painted (you can see her in Sept posts) that I will redo and add to these. I felt so good about these babies I hopped out of bed to get to my computer this morning. I think I may have the hang of digital painting! I see improvement and it makes me happy.

Here's the process: These were drawn with good old pencil on paper, then scanned in. In PS I changed to color to sepia to give me a nice tone to start with. That also gave the pencil lines a nice textured brown & colored pencil feel. Then I painted them all in PS; changing opacity, using the eraser, playing around with lines and color, etc. Seems like it works for me to paint and then take away/use eraser tool in order to get the look I want. Also, working in layers is great! If I need to, I can go back and easily make changes. What do you think? Brighter than my usual work? Do they have the same character?

I cannot wait to hear what my agent thinks of these! I'm hoping I've got a good start on the right digital path.

(for IF: Painting these makes me feel I'm on the edge of something great with a whole new medium.)

16. Digital

I think the digital painting is improving! Doesn't feel as awkward and I'm getting the hang of using opacity and layers to get more of the look I want. This is so different than watercolor... I'd still like to find a way to combine the two one day.

Hope you have completely and thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful Christmas season with family & friends. In a very short bit it'll be time to think about the coming new year and all of the possibilities it holds! This coming year I'll continue playing around with Photoshop and feeling my way thru the dark:) Little girl and Kitty was a quick pencil on paper sketch, scanned in with sepia added. Then I pinked up their cheeks, which I can officially say I much prefer doing in PS rather than in watercolor. You can change it, soften it, mess with the opacity, etc. And I just like the outcome better. Then I added some scratches, drips and words with free downloaded paintbrushes. Heart + XO's were drawn with a
 PS dry media pencil.
As far as 2013 goes, I'm not sure if I'll think about the new year in terms of plans + goals this time. 2012 has been a tough one. I may just do a little reflecting and concentrate on what I am thankful for today, and each day thereafter. Somewhere in between now and tomorrow everything else will fall into place.

Well, if it isn't December already! Craziness. Hope you are enjoying the season and staying toasty. I know I am as the weather is, unfortunately, unseasonably warm. Hoping it feels closer to December soon. I'd love to throw on a sweater without wanting to dunk myself in ice cubes. Plus it helps put me in the Christmas mood. At least Elf can warm himself with hot chocolate.

I'm "mini-blogging" much more frequently over on  facebook if you ever want to stop by to catch up:)

22. Another Digital Attempt

My try at digitally painting one of the baby sketches previously posted in Photoshop. Definitely a challenge. I'm not crazy about the hair either.

24. Lockets!!

Have you heard of Polarity? It's a shop run by Cat Ivins. She makes art lockets with recycled auto parts. How cool (and genius!) is that? And she partners with Etsy artists for some of the locket designs AND I get to be one (squeal!) I'm so excited to have 4 sets of lockets over there! Each set comes with 4 interchangeable faces, like 4 lockets for the price of one. I got the product pictures and gasped + made my children run into the studio to check them out. They came out so good and are so well made! Wander over to her site and check out all she has to offer! (I think I went over the allowed exclamation point per posting amount. Hope you'll forgive me.)

25. The Plan

The plan: To do what the sign says. Butterfly's an older piece of art. If I had time I'd redo it. But it works, I think.
