oh how I do love making these! This one is all hand done in black and gold, with glass pearl beads and pretty little beaded tassels that fall at the temples. I put this one up on etsy for sale and am beginning another one for another friend of mine. It measures almost 5 inches at the peak and looks fabulous on, I've been quite sick lately so I am not gonna take a picture of me in it at this time lol

So I decided to fly by the seat of my pants 3 days ago and make my own version of a kokoshnik, or something of the like.. it cant possibly be authentic, as I dont really know what i am doing, but perhaps my Russian ancestors will influence it, though I never met them, surely some of the handiwork folk aesthetic is in my blood? Well, we'll see..
\then after struggling with gold embroidery thread, I foolishly decided to pain on some design with gold ink.. BIG MISTAKE, it doesn't even come close to matching. I pulled my hair out and mourned the ruining of another project when I decided to just sew tiny gold glass beads over the mistake.. problem solved!
And here is where we are at now, I still have no idea how \I am going to sew the back on, but forward ho! It's looking more Elizabethan than Russian right now, but maybe when it's finished it will appear differently, I will post more pics as I progress, or ruin it lol

Read all the blogs I follow? I can't find a central place to keep up with the posts, blogger has me stumped.
Also I am making, or rather trying to make a Russian headress , I am taking lots of in progress pics including my blunders along the way and will post some later today, but right now I have to figure out how to find the blogs I follow... Dang technology.. Lj had them all in a friend feed, there must be the same thing here too right?

making things.. trying to figure out practical uses for all the animal heads I sculpted last year, and I think I came up with something reasonable. I gave them bodies..albeit somewhat crappy bodies for the moment, but I am still learning, here is the result.
I still have about 5 more heads to work with, that need to be dealt with before my cats chew up any more of them :)
I am really winging it with the jackets though, I truly have no idea how jackets are really supposed to be put together.

Last Easter I made some eggs.. some very bad eggs, I boiled and blew the eggs out then sculpted not so happy faces on them. Now the paperclay is a completely different colour than the eggs, so when I began dipping everything in tea to stain it, the faces went dark, the eggs barely stained at all.. frustrated I took the eggs with their sculpted faces and washed them.. NOT a good idea when one is using paperclay, their features eroded and all the careful sanding I had done was gone, now they really were bad eggs. I tied some ribbon to a broken toothpick and inserted it into the hole at the top of the egg, so when held upright the toothpick would keep the ribbon from coming out.
I then decided to try painting them.. again a mistake.. the paint simply wouldn't stick to the eggs, worked great on the paperclay, but not the shell. It went like this for days and days, until frustrated I gave up and admitted that my "bad eggs" were a bad idea. I hung them from my leafless tree at easter, then brought them inside and hung them on the wall.
Now something I hadn't counted on was my cats fascination with the bad eggs . The first one I found smashed to a million pieced at the foot of the stairs. The next I saw fleetingly as my cat ran down the hallway dragging the poor egg behind it.. this went on and on.. finally there is but one egg left, hidden away so I can remember what they looked like. The cats managed to find and destroy the rest.
Bad eggs indeed.

And today, with a terrible toothache and two vehicles in need of repair I feel like my angry little teacup.
I painted up a bunch of these months ago, but they just sort of sat around collecting dust for the longest while and now unfortunately are missing entirely.. I *know* I put them somewhere...
So dentist or cars.. my face hurts. :(
I am also embarking on the writing of a fairytale.. or so I thought. It is turning out to be frustratingly difficult to get the words I want down on paper. I am not really a writer, so who knows if it will be any good in the end.
I have finished up the first *chapter?* and only hate it a little bit, so that's good news!

I was playing around a few weeks ago and made some articulated paper dolls, the idea is to cut them out, use a tiny hole punch and fasten the whole lot together with tiny brads. I don't know if I "love" them, but here is one, enjoy!

So I have been terribly ill lately.. with a sore throat that still 6 days later, has not gone away.. it's just moving about.
It's insidious.. and crafty, everymorning I wake to find the pain has moved to the other side, or the top etc... not fun.
So in my ill state I have been painting a bit.. this my friends is a "Green Tailed Fin Tin" drawn to the specification of a 5 yr old, and though I apparently got the tail all wrong, I think it turned out not too shabby.

But this Monday comes with a hint of Spring attached! Of course I have been wrong before, and we could very well be inundated with snow shortly, but maybe just maybe Spring is here at long last.
This means of course I can go back to watching chipmunks, and thinking about gardening. I will undoubtedly plant a few things, then retreat once they are planted to see just how the two rival factions of Ants deal with the new plantlings.
Anyways here is Poor Esme, having had her house taken over by something awful. Octopus? Craken?

Just a little something I painted up over the weekend.. I still have some sort of obsession for eggs going on.. which is odd, because I despise them. Well, thats not exactly truthful, I used to like eggs, we were quite close, then one day eggs turned on me and I was deathly ill. Since that fated night eggs and I do not get along.

And here they are! I am rather pleased how they turned out. They are available on Etsy and soon available on my website as well, after it receives a makeover.. or make under.. or face lift.. what have you .
Up next, mini books! That will go along swimmingly well with my other books.
