1. Hello Blog!

It's been a long time (almost a year) since I posted anything on here. I been little busy this past year with life but not too busy for projects and creating new work. I will be posting some new work from my projects soon. This past February I had my first baby a little girl and it's been amazing year for me. Being a new mom is a great feeling I love it! The illustration above is what I turned in for Lilla Rogers' 2014 Global Talent Search. The contest is over and gone I just haven't had a chance to post it yet on my blog because I end up adding a few more things and it's a little different from the one I submitted for the contest.

5. Making Art That Sells Week 3: Children's Books

For week 3 Making Art That Sells our focus for the week was children's books. I love illustrating for children's books it's fun and exciting. I also love collecting and reading children's books. Our assignment was to read Hans Christian Andersen "The Snail & The Rose Tree" and illustrate a cover or a spread for it with lettering. I never heard of this book before and I did enjoy reading it. I actually had to read it several times to get a better understanding of the story to visualize it. If you haven't read this story before it's a good read and recommend it.

Overall I enjoyed this assignment while I guess have been enjoying each assignment and the inspiration given to us during this course. I get excited when Mondays roll around now to found out what's in store for us. When the course is over I'm going to start making assignments for myself each week it's fun and challenging.

6. Home Decor: Plate Design Assignment

Our class assignment this week for class was to create a plate design for a client in mind like Crate & Barrel, West Elm & Anthropologie. I love these stores and would love to freelance for them someday! I use to work for Crate & Barrel when I was in college yeeeeears ago I was a Sales Associate there for about year and half.

The theme of the class assignment was pods and succulent. I never thought about drawing this form of plant before it was fun researching it and finding inspiration. At the beginning of the week I pulled out my watercolor, gouache, colored pencils and pens because looking around on Athropologie website at their plate designs inspired me to start creating some traditional pieces. I sketched and practiced for a little bit. I scanned it in and colored it in Illustrator. One of my goals for the future is to sketch and color everything by hand. When doing everything by hand you make a mistake you have start all over again. I know in time I will get better with practice.

8. The New Student At School

This summer I will be taking Lilla Rogers Studio School E-course called "Make Art That Sells". and I'm soooo excited about going to her school. I really like taking workshops because I love learning new things and it's always room for growth plus it's a great investment. I was one of the first 50 people to sign up and I won a free signed copy of Lilla's book called "I Just Like To Make Things". I was so surprise and happy I won because it is a great book and a wonderful prize. I will be keeping it as collectors item and using the other one I purchased.

It's a great book with a lot of inspiration, advice, interviews with some of the artist she represent and it comes with worksheets and journal entry areas where you can write down your ideas and notes inside the book. Great tool to use even if your not taking the course.

I will continue to post more on my journey at school. I signed up for part 1 and part 2 so I pretty sure it will be plenty of new artwork I will be sharing. Have wonderful week!

9. PB&J

Wow I can't believe today is Thursday this week is flying by and the months are coming and going so quickly too. I'm glad it's Spring because I definitely don't like cold weather but with Spring you have to deal with the rain. When I was growing up my grandmother would say March winds and April Shower bring May flowers.

10. Yummy Mail: Nuts.com

After ordering and receiving my package from Nuts.com I decided to share on my blog because I love the company branding. I heard about Nuts.com on one of my favorite blogs OhJoy! Eats. After I looked around their website and read the reviews I decided to order a few goodies. They sell all different types of treats like gummy bars, malted balls pretzels, dried fruit and more.

When I opened the door to received the package I instantly feel in love with their packaging because the entire box is covered in cool graphics, lettering and plus cute little characters.

A bag of assorted pretzel mix.
 free sample of dried berries

Different flavors of malted balls and gummy bears.

11. Swinging Around

How was your weekend? My weekend was good. I didn't do anything special this past weekend. I stayed at home which is probably a good thing because it's pollen season and cars are covered with it. I enjoyed my time at home I watched my favorite shows on Hulu and relaxed. Plus I played the Sims 3 which I don't get a chance to play it often because it's very very time consuming and only get a chance to play it few times a year.

I recently purchased the new expansion for the Sims 3 University Life and it's really fun. You get to choose a major for your Sim out of the 6 majors (Communications, Business, Technology, Science and Medicine, Fine Arts, Physical Education) and guess which major I picked for my Sim?! Fine Arts. It's cool because you get to see them go to lecture class and sketch class outside. My favorite thing to do on the Sims is decorating the house plus they offer Interior Decorator career (with a different expansion pack) you can go and decorate other Sims houses in the town.

I know enough about the Sims lol. I plan to share more things I like and collect later this week plus I have a few art related announcements so stay tune.

12. Thank You

I just wanted to say "Thank You" to everyone for stopping by my blog and following! I hope everyone week is going good. My week is going well. The weather is nice, sunny and hot the signs of summer is definitely near. I created this thank you illustration last month to post on my Facebook for my birthday. I had sketched the ladybugs over a year and decided to turn it into a thank you card. I'm going to go through my sketchbook and color a lot more of sketches to share here on my blog.

Niko in his favorite morning spot soaking up the sunlight. It's funny in the evening time when the sun is going down he go to a different room to catch the last few minutes of the warm sunlight. That's one of his favorites things besides doggie treats, rawhide bones, plush animals and carrots.

13. Trip Home To Florida

Sorry for the lack of blog post this year I have been planning on returning soon with some new artwork to show. Last week I found my cousin passed away, we were raised together and very close. It was so shocking to me when I found out she died and it still is shocking because she was very young (early 30s) with no signs of being ill. I traveled to Florida to be with my family and to attend her funeral. While I was there I took few pictures and decided to share them here on my blog. Even though my trip was for very sad reason it was a nice trip and enjoyed seeing my family.

This is the Clydesdale horse that lives near the hotel we stayed at. The trail leading to the horses was very nice and peaceful.

Florida weather was nice and sunny with no rain last weekend but by Sunday Niko was definitely ready to leave because it was too hot for him.

Happy Friday! Have a great weekend!

I hope your week is going well (one more day and it's the weekend yay!). I sketched this horse several months ago and decided to color it in Illustrator today and give it a background with flowers

This little girl is a doodle I did yesterday. I colored it with Primacolor Pencils. I'm still playing around with the idea of doing more traditional work. Thank you for stopping by and leaving comments there always appreciated it.
