Fairy Redhead Girl and Husky Puppy is a cute painting of a little redheaded fairy and her adorable canine companion. Every dreamy-eyed girl needs a lovable pup. She is wearing a green dress and she has curly red hair. She has her hand around a little husky dog. I have to of my favorite things in this painting: Huskies and fairies. Also I’m redhead so I guess just painted myself with my dream dog.
This Print is 8 1/2″ x 11″ with a white 1″ inch border around the image for easy framing. Printed on high quality archival Epson ink jet paper. It comes unframed. Beautiful vibrant colors. Looks even better in person than on screen.
I have this print now available in my Etsy store.

Cute Gemini
After a short break in order to get everything organized, I would like to officially open my new store Little Fairytale Art at Etsy. This store will be used to showcase a lighter side of my art, both in style and subjects. Diana Levin Art at Etsy is still open, so no one worry, the dark versions of fairy tales shall continure. The reason for opening the store is in order to diversify my portfolio more and expand my clientele base.
Siberian Husky
Little Fairytale Art will include my zodiac line, there are a few up right now and I will be expanding the line in the coming months. I will be creating more animal art too, real ones such as the Husky and mythological ones such as Unicorns. So as my artwork expands, shall so my business, and I thank everyone who supports me and allows me to follow my dreams of making art.

Just a quick post to let everyone know that in less than a month is the amazing event, Ink for a Cause. The event will be on September 14-16 in Ventura, CA with over 100 tattoo artist and body piercers in attendance. I will be there along with KOKOCANDLES, having fun and deciding which tattoo I might need to get. But in the meantime I will be working on a print that will debut at Ink for a Cause at a special price.
Rough Sketch
The idea I have is a Bettie Page inspired fairy with some killer tattoos. I will be working on it for the next few weeks, and to show some of my thought process I will post updates of the illustration as it progresses from rough sketch to final form. This is the rough sketch I drew with pencils, as you can see no tattoos yet, just getting the positioning and form I want first. I went with a Bettie Paige inspired haircut for the cuteness and a few cute skulls for that added bit of darkness. Then to make it Ink for a Cause appropriate, I went with the gloves, whip, and thigh high stockings for the naughtiness.
When viewing my art, people sometimes ask me what is the story behind this piece or that piece. Or what goes through my mind when I am making my art? Well, I don’t really have a simple answer to these questions. In fact, when I get asked these questions, I never quite know what to say. For me its just having fun with a piece of paper and a pencil. I rarely stop to think about it.
So I started to do some artistic soul searching. Why do I create the images that I do? What propels me to create cute and twisted things? Why must I draw a cute bunny with red eyes holding a real human heart? Why does Alice have a picture of human heart on her dress instead of a cute cliche happy heart? Well, sometimes an anatomical heart is just an anatomical heart. Sometimes it just looks cool or it was fun to draw at the time. Or maybe I saw a picture that inspired me and ideas just popped into my head.
Or its possible that it might be part of a larger message that I’m trying to convey. When I really stop to think about it, most of my artwork seems to have common theme. A lovely girl or animal with some slight dark twist. So perhaps there must be a greater philosophy driving me.
Everything beautiful has a dark side. Beauty and perfection is not to be trusted. Beauty and innocence is an illusion, hiding what’s really going on in the background. Darkness is part of life, part of beauty. Its not good or bad, its just part of everything. Mischief, playfulness, fun and seduction come to mind
Maybe I want you to feel like something just went inside your gut and twisted all your insides (In a good way of course). Maybe by looking at my art, I want you to tap into a riskier and more dangerous part of yourself that you didn’t know you had. Maybe my art is meant to be a little subversive to the status quo, everydayness of human life–taking you out out of your comfort zone and luring you into unknown territory. We are all afraid of the unknown and yet we crave it.

I was born in Russia but lived in America my whole life. Still I love to look back to my roots and explore the beautiful rich culture that my family is from. I love different cultures so I wanted to honor this one with this lovely piece. Originally I painted her for a Culture themed art show that I have curated about a year ago. Eventually I would love to explore other cultures and traditions as well.
Russian Doll Fairytale Fantasy Art Print is a beautiful illustration of a cute girl wearing Russian traditional costume. With a dreamy expression, she is holding a nesting doll in her hands.
This is a 8.5″ x 11″ print on good quality archival ink jet paper with a white 1″ inch border around the image.
This piece is part of a new brand Little Fairytale Art that I am creating along side my darker brand. I will post more about it later on.
People have asked me why I like darker versions of fairy tales, but to be honest, the original tales were much darker than the Disney versions many people know today. To give a short history lesson (very brief in fact), in the early 1800′s the Grimm brothers gathered many folktales to be collected into a volume for publication. First published in 1812 the volumes went through many editions, adding and subtracting tales, till the final edition was released in 1857. If you wish to read further about the Brothers Grimm may I suggest here and here.
Snow White sketch
Now for the main point of the article, even though their original book was call Children’ and Household Tales, the tales contained within were far from such things. The original tales were violent, dark, and a bit of premarital sex at some points, this caused the Brothers Grimm to actually edit some of the content in later editions to make them more palatable for the mass market. In early versions of Snow White, the evil step mother wants more than just the heart, she actually wants quite a few organs from Snow White. This is not just for proof that Snow White is dead, but so that the Queen can eat the organs. As is in all good fairy tales, the Queen does get it in the end, by being invited to the prince and Snow’s wedding, fitted with some red hot iron shoes, then forced to dance till she dies.
Steampunk Rapunzel
In the story of Rapunzel, the protagonist is not as innocent as she would seem as she becomes pregnant from one of the many daily visits of the prince. Finally consider Cinderella, mainly the fate of her wicked step sisters, who each mutilated their own feet in order to fit into the slipper. And as if that wasn’t enough, birds peck out the eyes of the step sisters leaving them blind, not quite the Disney ending everyone knows and loves. So consider that I am not making darker versions of fairy tales, but that I am returning them back to their roots.
As many of people know, while I do draw cute things, they tend to have a darker side. I have been lately working on some art that is more on the cute side without the twists and darkness. That is not to mean I am giving up my dark, whimsical view of fairy tales, but diversifying my art.
The Sweet Little Mermaid
So I would like to introduce my new line of art known as Little Fairytale Art, a new line of prints and jewelry brought to you by Diana Levin Art. I have decided to run this line as a separate etsy store, starting with three pieces that will gradually expand over time. This store will run in conjunction with my regular etsy store, allowing me to show the two sides of my art, growing each store individually while having some crossover. As the lines progress, they may merge into one store or each may grow into further different directions becoming even more unique collections.
Why do fairy tales endure? Even in this age of digital entertainment, people still love to hear a classic tale or see a new drawing of their favorite character. Maybe it brings us to a simpler time, less clutter in our lives, when we believed in the possibility of being a princess or a brave knight.
Monster Party
The ability to forget our troubles and go to a place where good and evil are clearly defined, but the monster may not be the evil one. Where the creatures are fantastical and adventure reigns supreme, yet we can still relate to the character’s problems as though they were our own.
Caterpillar
Through my art I am able to escape to those worlds and forget the bills I have to pay, the menial work that must be done, and become the little girl that dreamed of being a mermaid in the pool once again. I want people to see my art and get the same sense of wonderment and adventure I get whenever I open up a fairy tale book. But most of all, I hope that they lose themselves in a world that will make them smile.

Fellow artists and entrepreneurs, do you ever step back to really look where you are going with your work?
I have been thinking about my business lately, specifically about what is working and not working and what direction I want to go to. I realized that I don’t have a solid business plan or a clear idea of how to actually make money–or at least the amount I want in order to sustain a comfortable living. The truth is I have not been playing a large enough game. Instead I have been chasing after small goals. If I am to really make a go at building a successful and thriving creative business, I need to adapt a business mindset.
I have had this inner struggle with myself for a while. My brain is battling between doing the stuff I love and hoping for sales vs. creating something that is more commercial, marketable and ultimately more profitable. So far I have been hustling at art shows, listing on Etsy and consigning at local boutique stores. Non of these actions are bringing in the kind of bucks I would like. So my new game plan is to start thinking bigger. One possibility that I have been toying with recently is art Licensing.
Periodically I go through my portfolio and evaluate the overall direction of my work, what needs to be taken out, what needs to be updated and what I need to build on. I am working on having 5 sections in my gallery:
Illustrations: My stand alone full colored pieces
Drawings: My sketches and doodles. Also includes some of my Pen & Ink illustrations. I want to be able to show how I come up with ideas to potential clients.
Licensing Collections: This is the section where I will begin to show artwork that is fit for licensing on products.
Storybook: Illustrations for children and picture books. Sequential art that tells a story visually.
Spot illustrations: Artwork for products, spot illustration and simple designs
Mixed Media: My original mixed media pieces
My new plan is to create collections to start licensing my work. At the moment I am working on 4 fairy illustrations–fairies with animals. My plan is to have at least 4 collections before I begin to submit samples to manufactures.

Steampunk Little Red Riding Hood Shoots the Wolf Art Print is a fairy tale illustration depicting a little girl in a red hat standing victoriously over a large dire wolf. She is holding a pistol and wearing a red cape. This is a darker interpretation of a beloved Children’s fairy tale story.
This illustration is not about killing animals or hating on wolves. In fact, I really love wolves and do not believe in hurting animals. However, in the context of the Little Red Riding Hood story, the little girl is empowered by her kill. In the original story, the wolf intended to eat the little girl. Instead of being a victim, the girl triumphs by shooting the wolf first.
This is intended to be a positive message about empowerment and the triumph over evil.
