2. How to frame your Giclée print. (Dave's recommendations for woodblock prints coming soon!)

At the beginning of this project, I hinted in the FAQ section how to frame the giclée prints. Since that time, I realized a more comprehensive explanation might be helpful.
Please note that these are only recommendations, and that you are free to frame your print however you like. Also, I only recommend this method for the giclées, since it accentuates their unique strengths. David will post soon about how to display and care for your woodblock print.
Our giclées are printed on handmade Japanese paper, with a gorgeous deckle (fibrous, rough) edge on all four sides. The loose fibers on the edge radiate outward beautifully.  To accentuate this feature, I highly recommend a floating mount.  Here's a mockup I put together in Photoshop:

There are many step-by-step guides to floating mounts online.  I searched for several hours, reading each explanation, and finally found a website that is professional, but not too complicated.
If you have any questions, please feel free to post them here, or message me directly.
Also, please avoid hanging your giclée in direct sunlight.  We use fine acid-free paper and the best archival inks, but never discount the sun's distractive power! Direct UV rays will alter the pigments over the years.

Kirby is done! And this design is special - I finally added the Japanese calligraphy. Eventually, each design will get a name plate and a little poem couplet in kanji. For Kirby, the two characters are "vapor" and "Buddha", and read "Kabi". And the couplet says "Warrior of heaven, guardian of dreams." The calligraphy is done by my medieval Japanese literature professor. Prints go on sale Aug 1.  To put your name on the preorder list, please email me at thejedhenry (at) gmail (dot) com.  Or, you can 'like' the facebook page, and get daily updates and sneak peeks.

This is my most recent addition to my Ukiyo-e Heroes series.   The subject is Simon Belmont form Castlevania.

I loved researching this one, because there's a huge tradition of Gothic fiction in Japan.  Yoshitoshi, a 19th century artist, did a huge series of ghost stories.   I borrowed from one to get Dracula's face just right.  You can see it here.

And here is my image:

Hey, fellow inter-nerds! I can't believe how much this has blown up across the blogosphere. Heck, it's making me use silly words, like, "blogosphere"! Ha! Image #2 of my Nintendo Samurai series. Granted, this guy is Capcom, but I just couldn't leave him out. What can I say, I have a thing for arm cannons. :) Also, can you name the bosses?

21. New project!

Here's an exploratory illustration for a novel I'm collaborating on. My friend, Noelle Carter, is writing. There's something I love about the world Noelle is creating.

22. Pony Is a Winner!

This is a little project I've been working on. Pony has a competitive spirit, but no matter how hard he tries, he's no match for a unicorn.

23. Tiff Sharkhammer!

I've been working with my good friend, Noelle Carter on a middle grade novel called "Tiff Sharkhammer". "Shark" because she has two rows of teeth, like a shark. And "hammer" because she's a fourth grade immortal, endowed with the powers of Thor. Her adversaries include Lucky (based on Loki) and Principal O'Denn (based on Odin). Tiff's not too bright, but she makes up for it by smashing things with her hammer – truly a worthy role model for all children.

25. Random

Back in January, I got it in my head that I wanted to make an iPad game. I had it all planned out, but in the end, I decided my busy life can't handle any more projects.

This is a rough mockup of the overall look. It's a detective game set in feudal Japan. Maybe someday I'll have the time to make it.
