2. ACEO Sketch Cards

I just finished a few fun time ACEO Sketch Cards I made to pass the time and hopefully make a bit of money so I can buy more tools and materials such as paint, etc.

So here's a shot of the last one I did entitled, "Bully" from the Looney Tunes Cartoon, Bully for Bugs in 1953. I'z loves me some Looney Tunes man!

I used a sheet of professional sketch paper, and scissors to cut from scratch into ACEO Sketch Card size of 2.5" x 3.5", a COL•ERASE blue colored pencil, colored inks, and just a little ol' Royal & Langnickel brush

4. "Your Time to Shine" Children's Book Cover Illustration

Hi, I'm really excited to share some news with you. Just this past month I was given the privilege of illustrating a Children's Book Cover for an Author and Writer whose name is, "Cindy Dorman Genis" who is having her book published through Quincentennial Publishing | A Unique Business eBook Publisher and Green Oak Publishing which is operated by Holistic Organizational Development and Training (HODT Inc.)

I spoke to the Founder and CEO which happens to be a Professor and Author himself. All in all a really nice guy. Here's his twitter page if you are an Author or Writer with plans on publishing a book?

As I was saying, I just completed a Children's Book Cover which is actually an eBook for the Author and Publisher and I wanted to share it with the World!
So here it is... Oh and the blue part I added as a complementary effect so the image wouldn't get lost in the black background and besides it looks more cheerful in the blue color. The eBook is actually a Standard Trade Paperback size of 6" x 9". Here take a look and tell me what you think? Don't be shy, I welcome any comments.

"All rights reserved" The copyright holder reserves, or holds for their own use, all the rights provided by copyright law, such as distribution, performance, and creation of derivative works.

The Book will be available soon through Quincentennial Publishing | A Unique Business eBook Publisher

Well I hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed creating it and remember, if you need a Book project that demands excellence and the utmost attention, you know where to go... Just click on those links above.

Ok, by for now folks and goodnight. I'll meet you here when I post some of my work from my Portfolio on this Blog tomorrow, see ya then.

5. Dust Jacket (mock-up) for a Fictitious Novel

Dust Jacket (2D digital mock-up) for a Fictitious Novel that I designed just this past month. Time it took to design was exactly 3 days at approximately 4 hours a day.

This will be posted up on my two Portfolios soon.

Here are several small previews, large sized images will be on my Portfolios.

(RPF) Ready for Print file

Front Cover (only)

DJ Layout

This is an example of the usual finished product I would have prepared for a client that needs a Book Dust Jacket that is fully ready and laid out for print or ready to go directly to the Editor/Publisher.

Also please look for me on my Homepagetwitter, goodreads and PaperBackSwap
Please don't hesitate to drop me a line or contact me about your next endeavor.
Thank You.

6. Alina Nova - Space Bounty Hunter "Preview"

Alina Nova - Space Bounty Hunter

I'm working on a new Science Fiction themed painting that will ultimately be set forth on my Portfolios in my Book Illustrations section. I have a ways to go yet and this one will take me quite a bit of time but it's for my Portfolio and I want to display my abilities of strength in detail and of quality because that's the way I like to do it.
I have named her, the Character, "Alina Nova", I don't know I like the sound of it. "Alina" just sounds like a great heroine first name and "Nova", well I borrowed that one from the 1968 film "Planet of the Apes", in that film their's a female actress named Caroline Munro and she plays the role of... that's right, you guessed it, "Nova".

I really love those films, they are Classics, you now? And I grew up watching them. So that name fits I thought as an homage, why not? Anyway here is a preview of the work so far. It is shown in small size screenshots but you will have a chance to see it in very large detail when it is finished.
I gathered a culmination of ideas and references from various favorite TV shows, films, etc. Picked a few characteristics out here and there and started piecing it together before I started painting. I like to gather as much reference as I can first before begin my projects.

Now there's plenty more to be done yet so it will look a little different. A lot better. I might change some things?

 Here's the first preview;

Some screenshots of the reference images I'm using. And I'm not copying from them slavishly but merely taking some traits I like and adding a bit of my flavor to the painting as a whole.
Here are those reference images.

This one is what got me sparked in the first place, great art, I'm not sure of whether or not it's a good read or not? Because I haven't read it yet. Looks interesting enough, I love these TPB's kind of novels in the Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror categories.

Next up is "The Pose" I chose. I changed it slightly different though but again just adding my own flavor. And all of these that you see here are the same size I'm using for reference.

I was trolling around on Google images and found this face though I'm not sure who it is? Whether she is a Model or Actress?

which I'm not sure if this look will stick? I might go with this one instead? Just the face.

Because I am infatuated with Caroline M. Well what guy in his right mind isn't?

And so far here is a close up shot of some detail of her waist section showing off her Blaster holster, utility belt, buckle and pocket zipper. Now keep in mind these are just roughs so far and soon I will start to add the details in and it will come together nicely.

Stay tuned for another "somewhat"...LoL exciting adventure of Alina Nova! The Space Bounty Hunter!
When? I don't know? In a couple of days maybe. See you then.

to be continued...

Hi, I just wanted to see if anyone was interested in a brand new boxed version of Apple Shake 4 compositing software? I could really use the money and I don't have any use for it so if anyone could use this software for a decent price just let me know? Oh and the Serial Key or License is unused and is for a single node user.
Serious inquiries only. I'll post up a few pictures of the actual software so you can see for your self. It comes with everything, BRAND NEW, Retail box version.

UPDATE: If you've been watching and following this blog, well I apologize but there's going to be some changes. There's been some huge changes going on behind the curtains with this Blog really. I'm re-arranging it, everything from the content that has been posted to the looks of it as a whole and that explains the pause in posts or lack thereof. It will no longer be called "Merch Attacks" anymore and that explains why you see that strange annoying b/w symbol in place of it now, instead the name is being changed to my official freelance Illustration and Graphic Design business name, "Thomas Luca Art & illustration™" blog. The link to this blog is now http://tomlucaart.blogspot.com/ In fact it is one of two of my main Blogs. What I will be doing here from now on is blogging links or sometimes the recent or old images of my sketches, drawings, illustrations and work I am creating for Editors, Publishers, Art Directors, Client commissions and more.

This will be my Illustration side out of all my Blogs, however I do have another Blog named "Paintings" which I am in the process of changing also to "Luca Fine Arts™" which will be for me blogging latest news and images of my sketches, drawings, paintings and work I am creating for Fine Art Gallery Shows and Exhibitions plus my online Galleries which I curate and you can find all them here at http://about.me/thomasluca and that includes my Freelance Illustration and Graphic Design work as well, I actually use that website as my online business card.

Man o man that guy is somethin' else, what a slick paint'n way out groov'n hipster he is, Wait what? Oh you don't know who you ask? Well, Dirty Donny of course?! Ever since I had seen this original cat who calls himself a "Street Walkin' Cheetah with a handful of crayons" on youtube I was there man, hooked!
My attention was zoned in to his koolness spectrum the minute I seen him screamin' down the SF streets in his 1969 Plymouth GTX, "which by the way Donny if ur read'n this? I want ur car man!"and pluggin' his book right from the steering wheel of his chariot, "Monster Revolt! The Art of Dirty Donny" I knew I had to get it and see what this artist was all about!

Talented yes, creative and artistic definitely, but his personality is what makes him the artist he is. The dude is boss and very inspiring too!
His art seems as though it is evoked from old comic books, reading monster magazines, the skateboard industry, the punk rock generation, graffiti and low brow art, and the hot rod kustom kulture scene I mean the guy is amazing! When it comes to all the different mediums and techniques he has mastered such as pin-striping, pen and ink, acrylic paints, airbrushing, vinyl toys, sculpture, you name it he's done it!
About his book, you will love it! I have one and I'm now waiting for him to publish another!

Take a look at what Ginko Press says about him here:

‘Dirty’ Donny Gillies
"Dirty" Donny Gillies grew up in Ottawa Canada skating, drawing and listening to punk and Metal. He cut his artist teeth razor blade sharp designing album covers and posters for underground rocks best. These days donny resides in San Francisco California as a full time artist. There really isn't anything Donny hasn't painted on or done work for. His art is spread wide across Lowbrow, rock and skate circles with projects ranging from Toys and decks to paintings, hot rods and recocord cover art for companies like Vans, Fender, Dunlop and Kid Robot not to mention his extensive work for rock legends Metallica, just to name a few.
