1. Evanna Lynch Attends Giffoni Film Festival 2016

Yesterday, Evanna Lynch attended the Giffoni Film Festival held in Salerno (Italy), after starring in My Name is Emily, which featured in the Generator +16 competition at the event. Of course, many Potter fans attended the festival to ask questions, but Evanna also had some wisdom of her own to share.

Evanna was part of the Potter community long before she was cast as Luna at 14 years old, so it makes sense that she’d have ideas about where she  would have liked the plot to go. The bonus of being cast was that J.K. Rowling was right there, available to speak to about ideas, and maybe get a few hints at the story along the way. Evanna did not waste this opportunity, telling Rowling a very interesting idea she’d had for the development of Luna’s character:

“I’ve always had so many ideas about the narrative developments that one day I went to the writer to propose her a love story between Luna and the Headmaster … I told her I didn’t mind the difference of age between them, instead, I thought they would be a nice couple. She replied: ‘It’s not about the age. In any case, the relationship would be impossible because he is gay’. That’s how I found out about one of the greatest revelations of J.K. Rowling”

When asked about the decision to cast Noma Dumezweni in Cursed Child (which opens officially on July 30th), Evanna gave sensitive, thoughtful reasoning behind her answer:

“I consider it to be the right decision. Hermione is a libertarian in spirit, she fights for those in difficulty, it makes total sense to imagine her as part of a minority. One of the most beautiful things about J.K Rowling, which for me is a point of reference, is the way in which she uses her characters to send a message”.

She later reaffirmed this answer:

“Hermione’s feature is her desire to help the defenceless, like house-elves, thus it makes perfectly sense her being part of a minority. Such a choice proves that J.K. Rowling wished to give a strong social message through her work. As far as I’m concerned, it’s talent that counts, not skin colour”.

She also had a few words to say about Luna’s sense of social justice:

“Luna doesn’t give a darn about people’s prejudices, she is a free spirit and she also helped me fighting my insecurities, just like she’s doing with million people in the world. This is the reason why I decided to embrace important causes in my following projects. For example, I acted a wicked girl who hates homosexuals in G.B.F. Because I felt awkward whilst giving life to her pettiness, I understood that my character would have succeeded in proving the premises of the film true.”

Evanna is an aspirational young actress, who likes to take on challenging roles – her troubled character in My Name is Emily illustrates her desire to portray complex characters who tell a story. However, she also sets herself personal challenges in her career:

“I always look for new challenges and I’ve got a long list of actors I’d like to play with. First of all is Benedict Cumberbatch because I’m a fan of his TV Sherlock”

Of course, as a Potter fan herself, Evanna would never give up another chance to play Luna:

“I am not ready to abandon the character entirely and I think I would be jealous if it were assigned to someone else”.

Later she also said of Cursed Child:

“ Should anyone make a film based on the stage play I would whip into it. The truth is that I can’t say goodbye to my character, and I hope to play it again, maybe in an older version”.

We all know that Evanna loves her cat – her Instagram is almost exclusively photos/videos of Puff, so when a fan awkwardly proposed to her at the event, her reply was believable:

“We’ll talk about it again in ten years’ time, now I’m giving all my time over my kitties, indeed, I wish to open a cattery very soon to welcome them all and spend all my money on their safeguard”

I swear to god she talks to me and I understand her!! ???? #soulmates #bff #LilPuff

A video posted by Evanna Lynch (@msevylynch) on

Lynch also advised young aspiring actors to “read a lot and broadly, stay pure and be yourselves; this will help you in a world that is not always easy”.

She also gave advice to younger fans in the audience:

“Be sympathetic to your parents, explain them your dreams and help them understanding the reasons why you want to experience new things. Sometimes, they might forbid you to dye your hair or wear some clothes but they do it in good faith to protect you. My mother, who is here with me in the hall at Giffoni, gave me strict rules but she also left me free to find my way, so I realised that my adolescence rebellion was not a pique but instead a desire to understand who I was”

2. Harry Potter Young Adult Cast Round Up

In a series of “round ups” we have been summarising the many movies, plays and other projects associated with Harry Potter alumni. The YA cast from Potter includes the trio and J.K. Rowling’s ‘Big Six’, so it’s unsurprising that they’re on all sorts of exciting endeavours!

Aside from being UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and leader of a feminist book club, Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) is – as we know – an amazing actress. She’s currently in cinemas starring as ‘Lena’ in The Colony – a thriller based around the cult Colonia Dignidad.

She recently interviewed The Circle co-star Tom Hanks on feminism and the movie industry – the movie is based on Dave Egger’s book, and is set for initial release this year.

Emma is also set to portray the iconic leading lady Belle in Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast in 2017. Even ‘the original Belle’, Paige O’Hara, is excited to see her take over the role!

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) has recently appeared in is currently in cinemas as a villain in Now You See Me 2, and has just started in his theatre role in Privacy, which features Edward Snowden.

A new trailer and poster for Dan’s upcoming spy-thriller Imperium have recently been released, which you can view below – he will be portraying nervous undercover FBI agent / white supremacist, Nate Foster. The film is set to be released in August. Entertainment Weekly reports:

“The director says — worryingly — that the more he learned about the topic, the more timely and relevant it seemed. “We’re witnessing a surge in far-right groups all across Europe; in some cases they’re nearly winning national elections,” says Ragussis. “We have a stereotype of what it means to be a white supremacist, but when I began collaborating with Michael and doing my own research, I was stunned by the depth and the extent of this movement.”

Ragussis made every effort to authentically portray the experience of going undercover, as well as the modern-day white supremacist community. “There’s a large white supremacist rally in the middle of the film that we had spent months researching and planning,” the filmmaker explains. “There were so many details that had to be captured to try to make it real and authentic. I’d read about them, seen them, watched videos of them — but to actually see it come to life by our own hands was something I’ll never forget. Someone even called the news and erroneously reported a Klan rally in their neighborhood! So to that extent, I suppose we did our job.””

normal_imperium

Dan will also star in Jungle – a psychological thriller based around the story of Yossi Ghinsberg’s memoir of his trip to the Amazon, which was included in The Discovery Channel’s I Shouldn’t Be Alive.

Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) is set to star in Sick Note with Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), after his recent performance in Moonwalkers with Fantastic Beasts actor Ron Perlman

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) has been cast as a series regular in CW’s The Flash. He will be portraying Julian Dorne – a Central City Police Department crime scene investigator. Read more here.

Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) recently wrote, produced and directed short movie Medusa’s Ankles with Potter co-star Jason Isaacs, which is set for release this year. She also raised money for Film Aid by making her own ‘Come Dream With Me’ t-shirts, which got the support of many Potter co-stars, and even J.K. Rowling herself!

Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) is currently starring in  Me Before You alongside Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who).
He is also (almost) confirmed to be  co-starring as ‘Lenny’ in Terminal, along with Margot Robbie , Simon Pegg, Mike Myers and more. The film is being produced by Harry Potter producer, David Barron. Read more at Matthew lewis.com here.

Alfred Enoch (Dean Thomas) will be returning to CB’s hit show How to Get Away With Murder for its third season on September 22nd.

Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Katie Leung (Cho Chang) recently took the Ilvermorny sorting tests on Pottermore, both being sorted into the same house as J.K. Rowling: Thunderbird:

Sorted. #Ilvermorny

A photo posted by Katie Leung (@_katieleung_) on

Evanna also appeared at the premiere of David Yates’s new film The Legend of Tarzan:

Katie Leung is set to star in The Foreigner – a film based on 1992 novel The Chairman, and co-starring Pierce Brosnan and Jackie Chan.

Lastly, Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown) has continued to make videos on her eponymous Youtube channel (here). She also appeared in Call the Midwife, and is set to star in Modern Life Is Rubbish, directed by Daniel Gill, who is known for being assistant Director on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

Hope you’re looking forward to all these upcoming features from our favourite YA Potter actors as much as we are! Be sure to take a look at the adult actor round ups, split into Part 1 (here) and Part 2 (here)!

3. Evanna Lynch is… a Gryffindor!

Pottermore recently interviewed Matthew Lewis, Rupert Grint and Bonnie Wright, following up each interview with a sorting.

So far, the only actor to be sorted into their character’s Hogwarts house was Bonnie Wright, who matched Ginny Weasley’s Gryffindor traits.

Evanna Lynch was also invited to speak to Pottermore about what the series means to her, and as a fan of the Harry Potter book before she got the part as the bold, eccentric and loving character of Luna Lovegood, Evanna clearly had a special place in her heart for the books:

‘They just feel so much like friends for me, in a way that other books don’t. Other books feel like I’m getting a little peek into your life, but somehow, just the way Jo writes them, they just feel like friends.’

She also says that growing up with the books is a big part of why older generations still seek refuge in the books.

Of course, Evanna says she misses playing Luna Lovegood, but says that she still feels connected to the character:

“I feel like I can still call on her inspiration and spirit when I need to”

Her favourite scene to film was Fleur and Bill’s wedding in Deathly Hallows, due to being able to meet the character of Luna’s father, Xenophilus Lovegood.

When it comes to being sorted, Evanna wastes no time being sentimental about Ravenclaw. She is promptly sorted into Gryffindor, and gives a triumphant grin, proudly showing off the result.

On how she feels about the sorting:

“Thrilled, but also, not surprised”

4. Evanna Lynch Discusses Devon Murray’s Legal Battle at the IFTA Awards

Evanna Lynch attended the IFTA Awards 2016 at The Westbury Hotel and Mansion House in Dublin on Saturday night (April 9th).

She looked absolutely stunning, as did Robbie Jarvis (who played young James Potter in Order of the Phoenix, and is currently in a relationship with Evanna) announcing on Instagram after the event:

“After an especially fancy week, I must apologize for the interruption in the regular stream of Puff pictures. Now to dismantle the glamour and unstick the glitz and go back to looking fluffy round the edges…”

Evanna spoke to the Irish Independent about Potter co-star Devon Murray’s (Seamus Finnigan) legal battle.

Murray was ordered to pay €260,000 to his former agent (neil Brooks), as a result of losing a court battle over ‘unpaid commission charges’. The Metro reports:

“Devon, 27, told reporters he was ‘gutted’ by the decision and addressed claims he’d thrown his £970,000 earnings away on ‘cars, drink and girls’.

‘There was an awful lot of things I put money into,’ he said.

‘I bought a lot of horses at the time… I bought property and the a*** fell out of that. It wasn’t all just women, cars and drink. It wasn’t all that.’

Devon, who appeared in all eight Harry Potter films, reportedly tried to break away from Neil after the fourth movie, allegedly after agreeing an increase in payment to the management company.

His parents were also sued as he was 10 years old when he entered into the contract in 1998 and both appeared in court alongside him.”

Devon tweeted:

And followed this up last week with :

Screen Shot 2016-04-13 at 14.36.37

Evanna spoke about the difficulty of coping with “crazy success” at such a young age, and handling large amounts of money often lead young stars into trouble, which Evanna feels does not fully reflect the true character of an actor such as Devon Murray, who she knows is a lovely person:

“He (Devon) is a really great guy,” she told the Irish Independent.

“It’s really so hard when you’re a young actor and you have this crazy success and suddenly you get all this money.

“You’ve no idea how to deal with it, you know. They don’t teach you about how to manage that stuff in school.”

The actress added: “I don’t know the whole case, so I just wish him all the luck and all the love because he’s a lovely person.”

5. Evanna Lynch on Zombies, Warwick Davis on ‘Cursed Child’ and More From The Wizarding World in Hollywood!

The red carpet event celebrating yesterday’s grand opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Hollywood took place on the 5th April.  Leaky fans were on the ground covering the event, which you can read about here, but of course there are more interviews with the Potter cast than we can count!

Here are some of the best below:

Entertainment Weekly sought after the actor’s questions for J.K. Rowling since the series finished filming.

James and Oliver Phelps wanted to know what happened to George after Fred’s death:

OLIVER: I think with George, it would probably be what does he do with the company. Like, does he expand it? Or does he just keep it as homage to his brother? Or does he go, we’re going to open it up elsewhere?

JAMES: Did he franchise it?

Oliver Phelps came up with a great theory regarding Fred’s ultimate fate, which he told Seventeen:

“I think he’d dive into the family business even more and try to make it even better in Fred’s memory, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Fred was a ghost in the shop.”

Tom Felton told Entertainment Weekly that he missed Draco, and had endless compliments for J.K. Rowling regarding the character:

There’s a beautiful understanding between him and I, I think. I miss him. I miss him a lot. But Jo has such a wonderful way of making these characters so rich and full anyway. I suppose all the things that I don’t know are assumed. But I also know that Jo is an endless wealth of knowledge so if I ever have anything that was puzzling me, I know she’d be more than happy for me to ask her. You’ve got me picking my brains now. I’ll have to message her tomorrow.”

Evanna Lynch obviously had the most questions about Luna – being a huge fan of the books, she wanted to know more about Luna’s family:

I think the big blank is her mom. I’ve always wondered what she’s like. We’ve just been told her name is Pandora and that she died doing an experiment, and I just wonder, I really am curious what was her relationship with Luna? Because obviously she’s so close to her dad, and I find that there’s always one parent that you have more in common with or that you confide in more, and I wonder … was that her mom? Or just what kind of person she was.”

Make sure you catch the full article from Entertainment Weekly here.

You can also read a hilarious exclusive interview with Tom Felton playing ‘Marry, Snog, Stupefy’ with Bustle here, and a snippet from the interview below:

“When given three names of Harry Potter characters, Felton must choose which he’d most like to marry, snog (kiss), and stupefy, which, according to Harry Potter wiki, to stupefy someone means to “render a victim unconscious and/or halt moving objects.” So basically, it’s a less morbid version of the “kill” option most muggles are accustom to.

But before I can give him three options, Felton declares: “I’d snog Bellatrix.” …. I remind him of the rules — I give you the three options, Tom — and we begin.”

MSN also spoke to Evanna Lynch, about the roles she is currently looking for, which appear to steer away from ‘darker’ roles in shows such as The Walking Dead:

“I really just want to do characters a I really love,” Lynch told AAP on the red carpet at the grand opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in California.

“There are other scripts that come along and I see them but I don’t really have the passion unless I connect with the character.

“I am sick of zombie movies, all these things about undead people. I want things that make the world lighter rather than scarier.

“Everyone says it’s so good but I hate zombies and that kind of violence.”

She also commented on J.K. Rowling’s constant development of the wizarding world – which we know she is excited about and understandably wanting to be involved in! Evanna spoke about what she’d like to see from any sequels involving Luna:

“She (Rowling) has created another world and made it so rich and varied and interesting and I feel like it will never end,” Lynch said.

“I’d love if she did a sequel, I would love to know more about Luna and I feel like there is a lot more to explore.

“I would love a wildlife show with Luna and a documentary series.”

Read the MSN interview in full here.

She revealed her thoughts on whether she thought the pairing of Neville and Luna should have gone any further to Movie Pilot:

“Definitely not. I think he’s very much a homebody, a stay-at-home dad. And Luna wants to go out and explore the world and different creatures, and I think she wants to have several different relationships and not be committed forever. Neville would want a good sturdy wife who cooks, and that’s not her.”

Evanna also gave Extra a VIP tour along with James and Oliver Phelps, which you can view below:

Warwick Davis also attended the event, and spoke to Hollywood Life about the how he’d feel about appearing in Cursed Child. Of course, he’d be more than thrilled:

“To be back in something that has been created by J.K. Rowling and something that goes on to have a life beyond that is exceptional and it would be lovely to do that!”

“I love performing, I am an actor. This is what I love doing So however I manage that and have that manifest itself is a great pleasure!”

He also revealed his aspirations for TV:

“It would be to have a chat show, I mean that is my last bucket list to take on”

“I have done everything else in my career that I have wanted to take on and what I want to do but the chat show still remains elusively something that I would still love to do and a thing that I think I could do very well!”

Read the full interview at Hollywood Life here.

SnitchSeeker also caught up with James and Oliver Phelps to ask them about the theme parks, and about the newest ventures into the wizarding world (Fantastic Beasts and Cursed Child). They posted a video of the interview (below), and you can catch their transcript here.

6. Leaky at the Red Carpet Premiere of the Wizarding World in Hollywood

Tuesday night, Harry Potter stars, Hollywood stars, the esteemed John Williams and many CEOs gathered to celebrate the red carpet premiere of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios Hollywood. The new Harry Potter theme park opens today, April 7.

Leaky had two very willing Leaky and Harry Potter fans, Christina and Jeasica, were on the ground for Leaky, covering the event as our volunteer freelance reporters! Christina and Jeasica were on the red carpet, asking our favorite Harry Potter stars, and several others, questions.

Film director and producer Stephan Spielberg, who had an interest in adapting the Harry Potter books to film in the early stages of developing movie rights, was also in attendance. Spielberg was not chosen to direct or adapt the first Harry Potter film, as Jo and Warner Bros. felt Chris Columbus was a better fit. Mr. Spielberg was accompanied by Larry Kurzweil, Tom Williams, Mark Woodbury, and Kevin Tsujihara on the red carpet:

Jeasica and Christina conducted brief interviews with the stars. The video clips of this can be seen below.

The first is with Warwick Davis, talking about his favorite part of the Wizarding World theme parks. We were excited to watching John Williams conduct the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra too!

[MORE VIDEOS COMING SOON]

The red carpet questioning was followed by a beautiful ceremony. The presidents and CEOs of Universal and Warner Bros, and the Mayor of Las Angeles gave speeches about the theme park and the magic it will bring to the Hollywood area. John Williams and the Harry Potter stars were introduced.

Leaky’s Jeasica and Christina had great seats to watch the introduction ceremony, and captured these clips of the speeches.

Tom Felton, Evanna Lynch, and Warwick Davis entered stage the same way all other guests and speakers entered. The Phelps twins–in proper Fred and George style–rolled in, driving the Weasley car:

The ceremony included a performance by the Hogwarts frog choir, and concluded with a magnificent light show on the castle that featured all four Hogwarts Houses, and was accompanied by John Williams conducting the L.A. Philharmonic!

One of the ever-mysterious Pottermore correspondents was at the event, reporting on the Harry Potter site’s behalf. They too, talked to stars and captured beautiful photos of the event.

WWoHP_Hollywood_Hogwarts_and_John_Williams

Pottermore talked with Billy Bob Thornton on his visit to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. He was there with his daughter, who is a big fan of the series. Pottermore reports:

‘She’s really into it,’ Thornton admitted. ‘Half the stuff she talks about, I don’t know what it means. She and her best friend have secrets they won’t tell us about. I think they take something out of Harry Potter and they invent their own worlds.’

With a string of iconic roles under his belt, does Mr Thornton think he would make a good wizard?

‘Well, I’ve been called a wizard, and a few other things, so who knows? I’ve cast a spell or two in my time.’

Pottermore talked to other stars about who they thought were Hollywood wizards, saying:

‘Blake Lively,’ affirmed Jaime Camil, of Jane the Virgin fame. ‘I saw her Instagram today and she said she was up to no good.’

Comedian Chris Hardwick has clearly thought about this question before.

‘[George] Clooney is definitely a wizard.’ He announced. ‘It’s the smoky eyes. Clooney is definitely a guy that was, like, President of the Hogwarts school newspaper. President of everything.’

Pottermore also caught up with the Harry Potter cast, and talked to them about the nostalgia of visiting the Harry Potter theme parks. Pottermore reported:

‘You just feel immersed in it,’ James admitted. ‘You forget you’re not at Leavesden Studios filming. You still feel – I don’t mean to be cheesy – but the magical thrill of it.’ In full Fred and George style, James and Oliver even turned up to the bash in the iconic, blue Ford Anglia.

While Warwick Davies waxed lyrical about how much he loved the Butterbeer, Evanna Lynch, who is famously a huge fan of the books, was simply soaking in as much atmosphere as possible.

‘When I see new things in the park, I get excited and I feel spoiled that I get to go wherever I want,’ she enthused. ‘I love coming back here every time.’

‘It’s a bit like walking through your old school’, [Tom Felton] told us. Felton promised to return often, and recalled that, last week, he had wandered around for about an hour without anyone noticing.

‘Hogwarts as a whole is a wonder to be around, so the fact that we have it a few meters behind us all is special.’

‘It’s my childhood,’ the actor added.

To read the entire Pottermore account of the night, and see the beautiful photos they uploaded, read the original article here.

You may view the entire ceremony here:

Wednesday, the the Harry Potter stars gathered for a media panel and one-on-one interviews, and the park opened to the general public (and press) in the very early hours of this morning.

About our volunteer freelance writers:

Christina is 33, and a single mother of two, who lives in  Apple Valley. When she is not being an epic Harry Potter fan, and attending events for Leaky, she is a mechanic on the tatical vehicles for the Marine Corps civilian side. She described her experience in the new Harry Potter theme park, saying:

You are a muggle who has imagined a wondrous place filled with magic and mystery. You are a muggle who wanted to befriend a wizard, dragon, or maybe a hippogriff. Wait no longer Muggle, for I have seen that magical place that you have been waiting for. That place has finally come to Universal Studios Hollywood as the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park.

As you follow the footsteps of Professor Albus Percival Wolfric Brian Dumbledore, you enter into a familiar, magical far away land. You will forget you’re from the old muggle world and immerse yourself into a world that has not been seen by the Muggle kind. A world that as you might considered to be unreal. It is quite the opposite here at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter—the theme parks make the imagined real.

Jeasica said “It was such an amazing experience thank you so much for the opportunity. Both the frozen butter beer and regular were fantastic! The food tasted just as it smelled AMAZING!!! The rides were just as expected fun and made you feel like you were flying with the characters.”

8. The Wizarding World park in Universal Hollywood Opening this Week

On April 7, this coming week, Universal Studios Hollywood will be laying down the red carpet for the grand opening of the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park. It is a highly anticipated event with many special guests.

A few Harry Potter alumni have already made their way to the park to enjoy the magic it has to offer before the grand opening unleashes much loved chaos with thousands of adoring fans waiting to be immersed in a world they have grown to love through books and films.

Evanna Lynch loves the wizarding candy from Honeydukes, and posted a picture of her blue tongue on her Instagram:

Screen Shot 2016-04-02 at 8.47.50 PM

USA Today showed Tom Felton around the park, and documented their magical day on SnapChat and Twitter:

Similarly to it’s Orland location, Universal Studios theme parks expect to strengthen their financial position with the opening of the Harry Potter park. As Fortune Magazine and many other news sources noted last week, the Potter parks have been a large source of income for Universal Parks. Fortune reported:

From the cobblestone alleyways to the snow-capped roofs, fans of Harry Potter will be able to immerse themselves into a new “Wizarding World” attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood, and the theme park is betting on their purchasing power.

[The] “Wizarding World” is what the theme park is banking on. Comcast CMCSA 0.13% reported a revenue increase of 27% to $3.3 billion from its Orlando, Fla., and Hollywood, Calif. locations in its 2015 year-end report.

The company said revenues were bolstered by Orlando’s new Harry Potter world, which features two lands, Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, connected by the Hogwarts Express train. An additional ticket is required to visit both lands in one day.

The full article may be read here. The grand opening of the park is expected to be as wonderful as the opening for the park in Orlando, and we hope that Universal will not disappoint–with John Williams in attendance, how could they?

Leaky is looking for a devoted fan going to the theme park grand opening, who would like to freely volunteer to be free lance writer for the event! Please contact [email protected] if you are interested. Thank you!

9. Evanna Lynch on ‘Fantastic Beasts’, Animal Welfare and being Luna!

Evanna Lynch spoke to People about potential appearances in Fantastic Beasts, excitement about Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, and fan theories about the film, and also spoke to Buzzfeed about her role as Luna, her love for animals and her dedication to social justice.

“I am so excited. Those are my two favorite things: animals and Harry Potter.”

People pointed out Evanna’s dedication by reminding us that on Sunday 20th, she took part in the New York City’s Half Marathon to raise awareness for World Animal Protection.

Lynch is also hugely excited about Eddie Redmayne’s leading role as Newt Scamander:

“Eddie Redmayne is going to be fantastic! He’s definitely a wizard.”

As one of the biggest fans of Potter, Evanna’s dying to be in Fantastic Beasts – we don’t blame her! She mentions some of the fan theories connecting her to the role, but unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be happening:

“I’m just waiting for the call!” she said laughing, adding “Fans have been concocting all these scenarios where Luna narrates the film as if telling it to her children or grandchildren. They didn’t go that direction,” she adds.

“I do get a little bit jealous when I think of them filming right now. I miss it!”

Buzzfeed also caught Evanna this week to talk about her participation in the New York city Half Marathon for World Animal Protection, connecting her love of animals to her role as Luna Lovegood:

On animal rights and World Animal Protection:

It’s something that I was always interested in and it always felt like a natural impulse for me. When I see an animal in pain it really upsets me because they’re innocent and they’re the outsiders. I think that’s why I resonated so much with the character of Luna in the Harry Potter movies; I feel for the oppressed and I want to stand up for them. In a way, animals are so different and we as humans think we’re better than them, but I really think we just don’t know them very well. I had lots of pets growing up and there were sheep in the fields behind our house. We were just surrounded by them, and I just felt that I wanted to protect them. I just think they have a lot to teach us. I feel like they already teach us so much about trust and always having compassion for people. Animals are just waiting for us to catch on.”

Evanna also told Buzzfeed that she thinks Luna is ‘extremely spiritual’, and resonates with her connection to the natural world:

“She doesn’t fear death, she feels that there’s a very thin divide between those two worlds, and I think that’s why she feels this connection to the spiritual world. I think that relates back to animals too, kind of like the message in Pocahontas about how everything has a spirit in it. I think that’s why Luna doesn’t get so caught up in the minutiae of everyday life and teenage angst. She doesn’t get worn down by bullies because she really sees the big picture; she sees people’s spirits and their energies, and she sees that with animals. Just because they can’t speak to us or communicate with us in the same ways [as humans] doesn’t mean that they’re not worthy or that they’re not able to offer us anything.

….. “She’s someone I really look up to, especially because of her outlook on the world. She doesn’t judge anyone and is curious about everything, and I’d like to have that [outlook]: not to take life too seriously, especially in the industry I’m in. In acting, it can get so competitive because everyone’s trying to make it. I think Luna reminds me that that’s not what I want, you know? Not to sound cheesy, but I just want to follow my heart and do things that make me happy. We share that outlook and appreciation for art and nature; she doesn’t look at something and try to understand it or try to claim it, she just appreciates it. I’m always striving for that outlook on the world.

On the lessons Evanna learnt from Harry Potter, and what she thinks the series can teach fans about social justice:

“I was always encouraged to give my opinion on things and to not be a perfectionist; just to get in there and play and talk to people. My perspective on film and movie-making before I joined the Harry Potter films was that I have to be a total pro and I have to do everything perfectly, and you have to just do exactly what the director says. But on Harry Potter, the filmmakers always invited me and all the younger actors to collaborate. They got me to make some of [Luna’s] jewelry and just put my take on it, and that’s what people liked. Initially, I was just waiting for people to tell me what to do or tell me I was doing something wrong, and instead they just encouraged me to express myself. Every time I do a movie I tend to get nervous in my head and I always have to remind myself, “Just be yourself. They just want you to add something to it. They don’t want you to just be exactly what you expect it to be.”

….

“I think especially in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, that whole idea that the media is not telling you what’s really going on and that you can’t trust the government — J.K. Rowling really drove that message home. The government was so corrupt, they were trying to get Harry to be their poster boy and their actions actually become interchangeable with the dark side. And I know it’s a magical world, but there is a lesson to learn from that: to question everything, to use your voice, always be striving for your ideal world, and not just accept a world that’s what the papers say or that’s what the government is telling us. J.K. Rowling is very aware of that. Even the fact that she’s tackling diversity issues in the film industry with the new play [Harry Potter and the Cursed Child]. They cast Hermione as a black woman, and that’s something that people just didn’t expect. It just gave the stories a new resonance and new power. That’s what the Harry Potter books definitely instilled in me: to question everything.

10. Evanna Lynch on Acting and ‘My Name is Emily’

This week, My Name is Emily screened at the Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival, where starring actress Evanna Lynch both answered questions from The Victoria Advocate, and continued training for her upcoming half marathon!

Evanna spoke to Victoria Advocate about acting, Irish culture and her recent film,  some snippets from the interview are below:

What kind of film projects or non-film projects would you like to see yourself involved in over the next five years?

I would love to do a lot more Irish movies. I’d never done an Irish movie before. They’re stories with heart. They have to come through a lot because we have a small industry. I’m sure they hear ‘no’ a lot of times, so every story there (in Ireland) is really loved. I’d love to do that. I’d love to do historical dramas. I did that once in a play. I played Houdini’s wife. I loved the fact that I could read somebody’s diaries and try to get more in their mind rather than just creating it. I like history. I like biographies.

What was the most exciting part of working on “My Name is Emily”?

I think all the challenges. For one thing, swimming. I can’t swim. I got some lessons on the film because she’s in water a lot and even though she’s not swimming, I knew I’d have to be able to stay afloat. (Some people say) because you’re a fire sign, because you’re a Leo, you’re not meant to be in water. I really feel like it’s unnatural. I get water up to here (she holds her hand to neck), and I physically panic. It was like mind over matter. That kind of thing. And I love being pushed. I never want to do a job where I’m not challenged and turned into a better person.

What advice do you have for young, aspiring actors?

Stay connected to the passion of it, why you do it. When you’re young, actors – they do it because they love to express themselves, and they love that creativity in exploring story and character. As you get older, the business becomes your career, and there’s more pressure on it. I think it’s very easy to get disconnected to what you originally loved about it: the purity, the artistry, the spark. I think you can get jaded. Always follow your heart. I know that sounds corny. But I have done that with movies. I only really take movies that really move me. That has just led me to amazing experiences.

Evanna was also asked if she speaks Gaelic, to which she replied:

‘I do a little bit. We all learn it up until the age of 18. You don’t really appreciate it at the time, and you go to other countries that don’t have second languages, and it’s like, ‘Oh, it’s a really special thing to have’.

12. Evanna Lynch on Being Vegan

Last week, Evanna Lynch accepted a Burke Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Discourse Through the Arts in Dublin. At the ceremony, Evanna gave a speech on being vegan, catching the attention of many foodies around the world, even VegNews.

Evanna talked of the reasons why she is vegan, siting facts on the environment and animal treatment to back her speech. She addressed the different moral perspectives of the diet, those commonly heard and others not as well discussed. University Time reported:

In her speech, Lynch presented an argument for going vegan. She began her talk by explaining the environmental reasons for veganism. She cited animal agriculture as being the primary contributor to “greenhouse gas emissions, world hunger, deforestation, species extinction,” as well as others. She believes this is an issue “you cannot afford not to address” due to the adverse effects of over consuming meat and animal products. She then went on to explain the reasons she went vegan.

She explained that the environment is not the reason she made the decision to cut meat and animal products from her diet. Instead, simply put, she believes that “killing and eating animals is a betrayal of our own core humanity” and that “killing an innocent goes against our nature”. From this point, her argument looked at history, evolution and the reasons consuming meat and animal products continue to be the norm in our society. Finally, she urged the audience to “check [that their] practices align with [their] principles”.

At the end of her speech, she half-jokingly mentioned that her father warned her that she would probably be heckled and booed when speaking on this topic. This was not the case, as the crowd listened cautiously and subsequently asked insightful questions during the Q&A session.

Evanna addressed the crowd, ready to be booed and mocked for her views on food, but found that her speech opened up a polite discussion and well-mannered Q&A. Fans asked about her food journey, where her turning point was, if she had any tips for healthy eating and more.

During the Q&A the conversation made an abrupt transition to the unavoidable topic of her role in Harry Potter, and her thoughts on the new Harry Potter projects.

Lynch was also questioned regarding the newest addition to the Harry Potterfranchise, the stage production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The session finished with Lynch answering one final question about the positive impact Lovegood has on fans and readers in terms of being proud of who they are and accepting themselves. She ended the session by saying: “That lovely message of ‘I’m weird but I’m ok’, you know. I’m happy to spread that, and I’m glad she’s such an advocate.”

13. More Exclusive Cast Interviews from ‘A Celebration of Harry Potter’!

Huffington Post and Hollywood Life have recently published two cast interviews with Matt Lewis, Rupert Grint, Evanna Lynch and Katie Leung following A Celebration of Harry Potter.

Rupert Grint thinks Hermione and Ron would be separated (if not divorced), none of them would overlook a role in Star Wars, and Rupert thinks Cursed Child made a huge mistake.

First up is Huff Post, and their representative really got the cast talking, giving a great introduction about the importance of breaking out of viewing these great actors as their characters:

“What I enjoy as I sit down to speak with the group is how much these adults are unlike their characters (except for maybe Lynch, who is still delightfully Luna Lovegood-esque). It seems obvious, but we’ve such a tendency to want to lock actors into their iconic roles. It is challenge breaking out of that, especially when you’re remembered as being a cute, or awkward, or weird, or chubby kid on screen. Yet each has grown up, and gone on to other acting gigs and new pursuits.”

This interview gave a broad sweep of the actor’s opinions on Fantastic Beasts, their characters, further roles in big franchises and more!

On giving advice to Fantastic Beasts and Cursed Child cast members:

Matt Lewis: I don’t know how much advice I could ever give anyone. The people who have been cast, as far as I’m aware of, are very, very experienced. They don’t need any advice from me. But I guess just enjoy it. It has been a hell of an experience for me, and everything associated with it: the people, the fans, the environment. It was a good gig to be on! Just enjoy it because there’s nothing else like it, literally in the world. It is unique.

Rupert Grint: I think it’s going to be a very different film, I think. I don’t know much about it, but as Matthew said, just enjoy it. Go with the flow.

Evanna Lynch: I’d say trust David Yates, as well. He always knows better on the film. Sometimes I would go, “Oh, I’m doing terrible, I’m messing up.” He would come along and suggest something tiny, and it would change everything. He is very clever. And he is the one who has transitioned from one to the other. He has the whole picture.

On involving themselves in any large-scale productions again:

Q: This was very much your childhood, and your job growing up. If you had the opportunity now to enter another franchise that would consume multiple years – like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars – would you be reluctant to join that production?

A:

Lynch: No. I loved it. I love the family feel, and the idea you can get deeper into your character over a year. I have been on films that were just three or five weeks, and sometimes I’ve been like, damn, I’d only just started to get into it. It was nice to have something you could develop it, and learn and grow alongside your character. And I just loved the family thing. I got very comfortable there.

Lewis: Hey, if Star Wars come knocking on the door tomorrow, I’m not going to go, “Um no, guys, I’m sorry, I don’t want to do four films, it’s fine.” No, of course not. I’d think about it, and I love Star Wars, etc. But there would definitely be a bit of trepidation in joining a big franchise again for that amount of time. Just simply because I’m really enjoying the diversity of the roles I’ve been given recently. Playing a character is great, but I love the process of finding someone, finding a character, creating and drawing it up. And trying to figure out what makes that person tick. When you do something for however many years, it can start to become – I don’t want to say mundane because it was never boring on the films. But you kind of lose that spark a little bit you get in that first day of school, or on a new job. It is exciting. And I’ve gotten that so often in the last couple years, I’d be reluctant to give that up.

Leung: I kind of agree with Matt. If it goes on for any longer than a certain period of time, you do get really comfortable and feel very safe. Having done all the projects after Potter, it has been a few weeks, a few months for a project. You do really get to know a character, and it is wonderful knowing that, once you stop filming or being on stage and being that character, it essentially dies. So I quite like that. Of course, it depends who the character is you’re going to be playing. But yeah, if it’s Star Wars …

Lewis: Star Wars is welcomed.

Grint: I don’t know. I don’t think it’s put me off. There’s pros and cons. Harry Potter could be at times quite suffocating. It did take up our whole lives. So yeah, I suppose there would be tiny bit of reluctance. Now that I’m out of it, I can see beyond it and it’s nice to have a real life, and do things you want. There’s a lot of freedom in that. But yeah, I think it all depends on the material.

Who knows – maybe a role as another Resistance pilot, or as a key character to unveiling Rey’s mysterious past will come up. Make it happen, Disney!

The Huff Post representative also asked where they’d like to think their Potter characters will be in the future.

As we know, Ron and Hermione were married with two children (Rose and Hugo) at Nineteen Years Later, all of whom attended the 427th Quidditch World Cup in 2014. Ron and Hermione’s relationship seems to be going well – that is, unless you take Rupert Grint’s word for it:

Grint: [laughs] I would expect Ron has probably divorced Hermione already. I don’t think that relationship would have done very well.

Lynch: What?!

Like living in his own, low-rent bachelor pad?

Grint: Yeah. Exactly. He’s living on his own, in a little one-bedroom apartment. He hasn’t got a job.

Lynch: Don’t say divorced. Say they’ve split up. They can reconcile.

Grint: Yeah, they’re briefly separated.

Ron is on Tinder doing horribly…

Grint: Yeah!

Lewis: Living in a one-bedroom studio apartment all alone, doing nothing. He lives in Kings Cross, right in that area.

Evanna took a more career-related view for Luna, and we can definitely see this happening:

Lynch: I think Luna would have an adventure documentary series. She becomes a naturalist, and I think she’d travel the world and have a show. I could be a wildlife narrator.

Like a David Attenborough of the wizard world?

Lynch: Yeah, and she would prove all her creatures exist. Everyone is so dubious of her, and I’d like her to show they’re real.

Anybody else want this to become a mini-series?!

Katie Leung had aspirations for her character – we love her no-nonsense view of Cho:

Katie Leung: I reckon Cho would probably have become a really successful entrepreneur, and really cold and ruthless.

Lynch: Oh my god! [laughs]

[Interviewer] I like this.

Leung: Yeah, she’s cried all the tears she could cry, and now she’s become real cold and heartless.

Lewis: This is dark! I love this!

[Interviewer] What kind of entrepreneur? She runs a tech company? Or a developer who tears down bachelor pads like Ron’s?

Leung: Yeah, yeah, that! Exactly.

Lynch: Oh…

Matthew Lewis bases his on information he received from J.K. Rowling herself, and even works Rupert’s view of Ron into his vision:

Lewis: Oh god. Neville works at the school, right? So he’s a professor, just enjoying that. Maybe he’s trying to get Ron a job, man. And he keeps throwing it back in his face, like, “I don’t need your help, Neville; Jesus, just leave it.” And I’m like, “Come on, it’s fine, we’ll sort it out, just trying to get you back into the fold.” Yeah, him and Hermione don’t see eye to eye because I’ve taken Ron’s side in the relationship, obviously. They’ve got everyone split off, friends wise. I don’t know who you guys chose? Did you choose Hermione?

Lynch: Ron!

Leung: No, Ron.

Lewis: Are you Ron as well? Jeez, Hermione is thin on the ground with friends!

Leung: Well, I’ll go with Hermione, then.

Lynch: I think Ron would need more help. Hermione would handle herself better.

Grint: Yeah, he’s in a bad way.

[Interviewer] But Ron could have a job as a replacement for Mr. Filch

Grint: Yeah!

Lewis: Yeah, I’ll get you in as the caretaker of the school, man. We’ll sort it out. Don’t worry about it.

Grint: Just get me out there. Just get me out of the house.

Lynch: And we’ll get you back together.

Read the full interview here!

Hollywood Life‘s interview focussed on J.K. Rowling’s newest endeavour: Cursed Child. Rupert Grint thinks they’ve made a huge mistake!:

“Um yeah, I think they made a huge mistake in not casting me,”

He reportedly said, but of course he was joking – we’re all sure Paul Thornley is going to do an amazing job!

“No, no. I think it’s going to amazing, that it’s going on, and I can’t wait to see it.”

In a similar vein to his interview with MTV, Matthew Lewis spoke about feeling like his role as Neville was complete:

“I feel like the story arch that Jo wrote and that we tried our best to put on screen was a complete one,”

“I took that journey and finished it the way I wanted to. He will always hold a fun place in my heart, but I don’t feel like there is more that I can do with Neville. I’m happy to leave him.”

Evanna Lynch, however, has something to say about not being cast!:

“I don’t feel that way at all …  As happy as I am that they are exploring the universe and that there are new stories in the universe, I’m so angry I’m not a part of it…100% I’d go back and do more.”

Read the full Hollywood Life interview here

So there you have it – Evanna will soon be portraying a Resistance Pilot, the Wizarding World’s very own David Attenborough, and a West End star (kidding, unfortunately).

WARNING: VIDEOS CONTAIN ADULT CONTENT. RATED R–NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 17.

Entertainment Tonight got a hold of a video clip from Evanna Lynch’s new film, Addiction: A 60’s Love Story. The independent film was released in theaters in New York City and Los Angeles on October 23rd, and moved to video on demand, available for purchase, this week.

ET was the first to release a trailer for the new movie earlier this summer. At the time of our first report, the movie had a different title, Dynamite: A Cautionary Tale, and raising funds on its Indiegogo page “The Dynamite Project.” By the time the first trailer was put out, the title had changed to Dynamite: A 60’s Love Story. The most recent trailer from August released the final title of the film, Addiction: A 60’s Love Story. The new title is very fitting as the film includes drug and alcohol abuse, as well as heavy sexual content. The most recent trailer from ET can be seen below:

The new scene released from ET expands on a snippet seen in the trailer above, and solely features Evanna Lynch and Ian Harding.

Addiction: A 60’s Love Story is now available to buy and view on Video on Demand.

Danny and the Human Zoo, a new BBC drama that stars Evanna Lynch, has released it’s first trailer. Evanna plays the love interest of the protagonist, an actor/comedian growing up in 1970’s Dudley, England. The Independent reports:

Written by Lenny Henry, it’s a fictionalized account of the actor and comedian’s life growing up in Dudley in England in the 1970s.

Newcomer Kascion Franklin plays Danny while Lenny Henry plays his dad Samson, and Lynch is his love interest in the drama.

The official synopsis reads, “Danny’s world is a series of complex minefields which he has to negotiate: his home life – which his ebullient mother rules with an iron fist in an iron glove; his love life – where the Irish girl he’s in lust with won’t give him the time of day until he wins his first competition; and finally the ups and downs of his emerging career.”

17. Evanna Lynch talks new film, Harry Potter, and the new additions to the Potter Universe.

Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) recently visited Galway, in her home country of Ireland, for the premiere of her new film My Name is Emily. In this new film, Evanna plays a sixteen year old who loses her mother. Not coping well with grief, her father takes off, and Emily (Evanna) takes a road trip with a friend to get him back. While Evanna discussed this new post-Potter project, she also talked much of her Harry Potter days when she played Luna Lovegood, as well as her thoughts on Fantastic Beasts and Cursed Child. As a fan of the series, like the rest of us, she is glad that J.K. Rowling is expanding the Harry Potter Universe. Evanna said that she is not ready to let go of her love for the series, and she’s glad that Jo isn’t either. UTV Ireland reports:

Though she is happy to free herself from the shackles of Potter, she sees it now as a good learning ground and a way she can capture the attention of directors of future projects.

“People still call me Luna,” she laughs. “I wouldn’t be where I am without it. I was very shy when I was young and I think it’s really hard to be shy as an actor, because you have to be quite aggressive and get out there. You have to want to meet people and for them to see you. It’s only opened doors for me. It’s up to me if I want to change it or challenge it.”

But fame isn’t why she’s in it. She auditioned for Luna because she felt like she was her, in a way, rather than to build a career as an actor.

“I didn’t get nervous the way I sometimes do now, because I was 14 and I absolutely loved the films and books. I didn’t think of the pressure and what people expected of it; I was just enjoying it so much. Sometimes I look back and I’m glad I was so naïve! But I’m grateful that I had that.”

She’s a Potter fan at heart, though, and says she’s very excited about the upcoming London play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

“I just love that [J.K. Rowling] is constantly feeding us more. I don’t think any of us are willing to move on from those stories that we grew up with. I don’t think she wants to move on either. I love that she’s always reinventing it or finding new ways into it.”

Lynch is keen to be involved [in Fantastic Beasts] and says she has asked Warner Bros if she can play “some creature so you can’t see my face, but I’m there”.

“I’m fascinated by that world and to see what the wizards are like with American accents. I’d love to be [in it] but I think I have my place in the universe,” she declares.

Since Potter, Lynch has appeared in the television series Sinbad, comedy GBF, crime thriller Dynamite: A Cautionary Tale, and toured in a production playing the wife and assistant of Houdini.

Evanna talks more of her post-Potter films, My Name is Emily, a BBC drama in which she plays Lenny Henry’s Irish girlfriend, and expresses her love to be in Artemis Fowl. To read more of this extensive interview and Evanna’s comments, please visit UTV Ireland.

22. Evanna Lynch Interested in Historical Films

In a recent interview, Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) revealed her and her family's love of history. She said she would like to take a role in a movie that represented Ireland's "rich" history. Evanna Lynch also mentioned how playing different age roles effects her career, as well as a small project in which she is currently taking part. The Herald reports:

"I think our history is so rich and my dad is a history teacher and he's always telling me stories and there's so many things to write about and it's just a pity the film industry here is struggling a bit," she said.

"I think our historical dramas are just the best. Me and my family love The Wind That Shakes the Barley. Me and my mum were watching that and she was saying to me, 'Would you never get a film like that?'

"I would love to work in Ireland. Everywhere else I have to go and get a visa."

She recently made the transition from big screen to small with a role in the €22m fantasy series Sinbad.

It sees her coming into the Sky 1 programme in episode 12, when she takes on the role of Alehna, a 14-year-old rescued by Sinbad's crew.

"For a while, until I was about 18, I was always put in the 14 or 15 age bracket.

"My manager is like, 'You want to stay young as long as possible.' But it's limiting the kind of roles you can do when you're 14; they're not as interesting," she continued.

23. JustJared.com Photoshoot and Interview with Evanna Lynch

JustJared.com has published a new photoshoot and interview with actress Evanna Lynch about her upcoming projects, her time on "Harry Potter" and other personal favorites. Since finishing Potter, Lynch filmed a part for a TV show, Sinbad, to air this summer on SKY.

Images from the photoshoot can be seen in the Leaky galleries. Read the complete interview at this link.

JJ: How did shooting TV compare to your film experiences?
EL: I was excited and nervous because it was the first thing I did since Harry Potter, so it was the first thing I kind of felt like, you know this is job. Harry Potter was my childhood and it felt very safe and this was something I was excited about. I wanted to work and meet new people.

JJ: Did you take anything from set?

EL: I didn’t steal any props. I collected all the call sheets (laughs) and I took the sign from my door that said my name. I wasn’t very daring.

JJ: Are there any books that you’d love to see get adapted into a movie?

EL: “The Hunger Games” is the big one for me recently. I don’t know, can I get back to you on that? I always liked that book, “Star Girl”. Have you heard of that one? She was very much like the character of Luna so that’s why I liked it. She was more damaged than Luna. I’m going to go look at my bookcase when I go home.
