1. Writers Against Racism: Cheryl Willis Hudson’s Blog

I just added Cheryl Willis Hudson’s blog to my blogroll and can’t believe I didn’t have her here sooner. Cheryl is editorial director of Just Us Books, Inc., an independent publishing company that focuses on Black interest books for children and young adults.

Anyway, she has a fantastic post today which I saw via Zetta Elliott’s wall.

Hudson writes in Publishing in Color:

“White and Whatever…
Harlem Book Fair: Why, in 2010, when the nation has elected its first African American president, is the book publishing industry still not meeting the need and demand for books that explore the width and breadth of our country’s multicultural experiences?

A panel of professionals will explore the complex issues and suggest solutions to a problem that is garnering a lot of attention. Please tune in on July 17, 2010 via C-SPan Book-TV for this discussion.”

Needless to say, I’ll be tuning in.

But the irony is just yesterday  – after receiving Fall 2010 catalogs – I sent an e-mail to the publisher (who I won’t name) requesting a multicultural selection of books to review, since I couldn’t find many in their catalogs.

Again…no response yet.
