Megyn Kelly has signed a book deal with the Harper imprint. The Fox News journalist (pictured, via) has become well-known for questioning the temperament of Donald Trump, a Republican presidential candidate, during a debate held in August 2015.
Lisa Sharkey, the senior vice president director of creative development, acquired the manuscript. Matt Harper, an executive editor, will edit this project.
According to the press release, this book will mark Kelly’s debut as an author. The release date has been set for Fall 2016.
Juan Martinez has signed a deal with William Morrow, a HarperCollins imprint, for Conviction: The Untold Story of Putting Jodi Arias Behind Bars. Martinez has become well-known for serving as one of the leading prosecutors on the Jodi Arias murder trial.
Here’s more from the press release: “Over the course of almost seven years, America watched as determined prosecutor Juan Martinez fought relentlessly to convict Jodi Arias of Murder One for viciously murdering her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander. What emerged at the trial was a story wrought with sex, manipulation, and deceit that stunned the public. Arias, always playing the wronged and innocent woman, changed her story continually as her bizarre behavior surrounding the crime and its aftermath came to light.”
Lisa Sharkey, a senior vice president and director of creative development, negotiated the deal with Steve Troha, an agent at Folio Literary Management. Matt Harper, an executive editor, will edit the manuscript. The finished book will feature 16 pages of photographs. The publication date has been scheduled for Feb. 16, 2016.
Less than two months after her triumph at the London 2012 games, Olympic gold medalist Gabrielle ‘Gabby’ Douglas has inked a two-book deal with HarperCollins’ Zondervan imprint. Her memoir, Grace, Gold, and Glory: My Leap of Faith, will hit bookstores in December 2012.
Shade Global’s Sheryl Shade teamed up with The Literary Group’s Frank Weimann to negotiate the deal with HarperCollins’ director of creative development Lisa Sharkey. Each copy of Douglas’ memoir will contain a free poster. No details have been released yet about the second book.
Douglas (pictured, via) gave this statement in the release: “Even before I competed in the Olympics, I always wanted to write a book. Of course, there’ll be a lot of stories about gymnastics, but the book will also be about how much my family and I have overcome during our journey. It hasn’t been easy. I want people to read my story and say, ‘If Gabby can do it, I can do it too. Anything is possible.’ I hope the book inspires others to go for their biggest dreams.”

HarperCollins may publish a special edition of Dollhouse by Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, decorating the novel’s cover with Swarovski crystal.
HarperCollins’ senior vice president Lisa Sharkey shared some behind-the-scenes details about the book in Diane Clehane‘s “Lunch at Michael’s” feature this week.
Here’s an excerpt: “There was quite a fracas coming up with a title. Lisa wanted to call it Keeping Up but, she told me, the powers that be at E! put the kibosh on the idea saying that was their brand. Lisa then came up with the idea of launching a contest on Twitter asking followers to come up with their own titles. The winning entry, Dollhouse, was submitted by a gal named Courtney who will herself be written into the book as a wedding planner. Savvy Lisa, who is always coming up with clever ways to market her books, decided the cover will be in leopard print and is hoping to do a special edition adorned with Swarovski crystal (‘Kim loves bling!’). The sisters’ fans can also turn the cover over for a special keepsake poster that is sure to find its way into plenty of teen bedrooms.”
