I try to avoid caricatures as much as possible. They're my least favorite artistic pursuit, but it's such quick, easy money at $150 an hour, that I usually do them anyway.
These are two from a batch that I did for some teachers at a school that I appeared at some time back. I would encourage you to try your hand at caricatures if you think you have a knack for it. You get booked into an event, you sit there and draw as fast as you can for two hours and up, and pick up a check on the way out the door. I always groan when I take in a caricature job, but I don't have to wait for a month or more to get paid, which is a big plus.
Gift caricatures are my preference. Someone calls and wants a caricature of their Aunt Millie for her retirement party. They usually meet with me with one or more photos for me to draw from, then I go on over to my coffee shop and draw it up. These were done in graphite, but most of my caricatures are drawn in ink on paper, then scanned into Photoshop to be colored.
Let me know if you have any questions about caricaturing and making money at it.

A short while back I began doing all my "inking" in Adobe Illustrator, and I have to say I've been really pleased with the results. Here's my rendition of Dylan.

Although the reviews haven't been too good, plan on seeing "American Gangster" (always loved Ridley Scott films) so I attemped a caricature of Mr. Washington.
...I also want to congratulate fellow SFG'er Alberto Cerritino for his terrific profile piece in the 2007 Communication Arts Design Annual!!

Here's a very quick marker drawing I did of Christina Ricci. I tried to do this as fast as I could with no pre-sketching. About fifteen minutes with a Copic marker and some gritted teeth. This harkens back to my days working street art fairs cranking out caricatures for the masses.

Heeeeerrre's . . . Jeff! This took about 20 minutes, in Prismacolor pencil (my current favorite sketching tool of choice).

I started messing around in Photoshop this evening painting a sketch of the pop star Pink I posted here earlier. I'm normally a vector guy, so I'd be really curious to hear any thoughts from some painters out there on my progress (or lack thereof).
Thanks in advance.

Here's a pencil sketch I did last night of the pop star Pink. I think this shows the influence the great caricature artists Jan Obdebeeck and Mort Drucker have on me.

Another Prismacolor caricature. This one took about twenty minutes. I like this one fairly well, but I think I should have made Clint even more gaunt than this.

Hi there. I think I posted these before, but they fit the weekly challenge so well I couldn't resist posting them again. Here's a vector caricature of Jennifer Garner I did and the Prismacolor sketch that spawned it.

My "Post Something Monday" submission just so happens to be my "Lost vs. Heroes" submission as well. I'm a big fan of both shows, but if I had to choose between the two I'd pick Lost any day. Which leads me to the inspiration for this particular illustration. Is it just me, or has anyone else ever noticed how much Hurley's head looks just like the island?

In honor of President's Day (and because I had the day off from my regular job), I decided to test myself to see how many '08 presidential candidates I could illustrate by the end of the day. The answer, incidentally, is three. Here's Barack Obama. I'm going to post the other two I did today in a moment. You can also check 'em out on my website.
These are great, Bron! I think the teachers who received them must be quite proud and happy with the result!
We, my husband and I were the recipients of caricatures when we were both on the Ambulance Corps and attended a dinner where a caricature artist was creating poses of all the members in their jump suits. It was a lot of fun, and as you say it happened VERRRRRRY fast.
You are amazing to be able to do these so well and also so fast. I can see why a single gift caricature would be preferred over the mass of people at a function of some kind.
These are really wonderful Bron. I have one of these in color myself. I have such great respect for anyone who can draw that fast. Whew!
