AKA Jessica Jones was always kind of a clumsy title for the televised adaptation of Marvel’s Alias, even when it was going to be an ABC series a few years back.
But, thanks to the keen eyed folks over at TennantNews.com, it looks like Marvel is fixing that issue for the Netflix iteration of the series, as they’ll be dropping the AKA portion of the title, and it will be known simply as Marvel’s Jessica Jones.
Given that there was already the old Alias television series, starring Jennifer Garner, that you can watch right now on the streaming service; using the Brian Michael Bendis–Michael Gaydos title would surely be too tricky. Marvel instead went the most sensible route possible.
In additional news, it looks like we should be seeing before the end of the year based on that “Coming 2015″ bit. I wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix and Marvel Television stick to a Spring and Fall release schedule for all of their upcoming series.

Are you still running on a Daredevil high from over the weekend? We sure are, and we’re working on our big post-binge review which you’ll see this week. But in the meantime, for those who are done watching, how do you fill that Marvel-Netflix shaped hole that Charlie Cox and company have left in your life?
Why, with AKA Jessica Jones news of course.
Marvel’s next Netflix series doesn’t have a release date, the network still lists it as a 2015/2016 release, but filming is well underway.
One question that was brought up on a group viewing of Daredevil this past Friday, what exactly is David Tennant‘s Kilgrave/Purple Man going to look like? Will he actually have purple skin? Marvel never seems to have an issue with embracing their comic roots, though if this past weekend is any indication, they seem to be going a bit more grounded with these Netflix offerings.
Thanks to an intrepid Instragrammer, we might just have the answer. This person was able to snap a shot of Tennant on set:
So, based on that, there’s no purple skin in sight. Then again, this may be before he gets his mind controlling abilities, we can’t say for sure as of yet. But, as Daredevil has given us the most compelling Marvel villain since Loki in Wilson Fisk, I’ll be fascinated to see how they handle one of Marvel’s more frightening characters.

Filming has begun on AKA Jessica Jones, Marvel’s second Netflix offering, which stars Krysten Ritter as the title heroine, in a series summarized as:
After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter, Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23) is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.
There had been some discussion as to whether or not the series would see 2015, or might be pushed into 2016. But according to photos that have surfaced today, Marvel is aiming for the former.
They’re not terribly exciting photos, Jessica dresses basically like anyone else, but here’s your first “glimpse” at her in live action via Newzcard:
AKA Jessica Jones also stars Mike Colter as Luke Cage, David Tennant as Kilgrave, Rachael Taylor as Trish “Patsy” Walker, and Carrie-Anne Moss as Harper.

Carrie-Anne Moss, best known for her work in Christopher Nolan‘s Memento and The Matrix trilogy (though I’ll always know her as the voice of Aria T’Loak in the Mass Effect games), has signed onto Marvel and Netflix’s AKA Jessica Jones in an unnamed role.
Deadline describes the role as:
She will play a no-nonsense woman who could prove a powerful ally to Jessica – if Jessica doesn’t completely alienate her first.
It’s worth noting this role is being revealed in much the same way that Rosario Dawson‘s role in Daredevil was, with a sort of vague description and not much else. That role was eventually revealed to be Night Nurse. All of this secrecy could very well mean that Moss’ role is intended to be a surprise for fans…or not.
She’ll join Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, David Tennant, and Rachael Taylor in the series debuting this year.
Update: According to Badass Digest, the character is named “Harper”, though they provide no other details.

Marvel’s second Netflix series, AKA Jessica Jones, has added a new cast member to join Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and David Tennant (Kilgrave).
Per Variety, Rachael Taylor (666 Park Avenue, Charlie’s Angels) has signed on for the role of Trish Walker, Jessica’s best friend.
Here’s how they describe the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Walker:
Trish Walker, the best friend of Jessica, is a syndicated radio talk show host, former model and child television star who’s best known to her fans as ‘Patsy’ Walker, based on the Marvel Comics character who appeared under the superhero identity of Hellcat. In the series, Trish will help Jessica embark on the most dangerous case of her career.
Hellcat has recently had a nice bit of profile elevation lately in the pages of Charles Soule and Javier Pulido‘s soon to be concluding critical favorite, She-Hulk; of which, my heart remains broken.
AKA Jessica Jones, developed by Melissa Rosenberg (Step Up, Twilight), is quickly following Daredevil‘s footsteps in some great casting moves. The debut of these series can’t come soon enough. I may actually have two shows that I binge on in one year, a personal record!
Expect to see this newest Marvel offering sometime in 2015 following Daredevil‘s April debut.

Former Doctor Who star David Tennant is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’ll be doing it all covered in purple.
The Scottish actor will be joining the cast of AKA Jessica Jones, the second Marvel-Netflix series after Daredevil debuts in April, as Kilgrave. Kilgrave aka Zebediah Killgrave aka The Purple Man is described as an enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past whose reappearance will “send shockwaves” through her world.
Tennant will be the main antagonist of a series that’s already netted Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad) as Jones and Mike Colter (Criminal Minds) as Luke Cage.
Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg had this to say:
I’m so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character. He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain.
While this is an exciting casting announcement, and makes for the fourth big BBC star to join the MCU after Benedict Cumberbatch was cast as Doctor Strange, Karen Gillan as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy and Christopher Eccleston played (and was wasted as) Malekith in Thor: The Dark World, I’m hopeful Tennant will either be allowed to keep his Scottish accent or really master a Serbo-Croation one in a way that’s better than his attempt at an American accent in Gracepoint.
AKA Jessica Jones will debut in 2015.
This is their Jessica Jones? She looks… not like the chain-smoker in the comics (Alias). Still interested in the show though.
