Authors should be paid for hosting events, the Society of Authors new general secretary has said.

Nicola Solomon told delegates at the Book Industry Conference yesterday (16th May) that if authors give up a day of their free time to stage a reading, book signing or other event at a bookshop where that establishment is making money, then they should receive around 10% of it.

4. You know what's hard?

Harder than running a 132 site campground on a July weekend?

Harder than losing 25 lbs for my 25th anniversary trip?

Harder than climbing to the top of Tumbledown Mountain before you've lost those 25 lbs and found out exercise can be addictive?

this is not Tumbledown . . . I just like the photo!

What's harder than all of those . . . .

practicing BIC.  Butt in Chair.

And every writing season, I have to relearn how to do that.

Some say it's because I run, run, run all summer long.  Other's say it's because I'm procrastinating.  Still other's say I need more time to clear my head between the two seasons.

It's probably a combination of all three.

And it's counter productive, darn it!

Yesterday, my schedule was cleared to write all day and all night too, if I wanted.

But noooooo . . .

Every time I felt "stuck" the laundry called my name.  Or I texted my daughter.  Or I went for a two hour kayak ride.

(which technically was partly my exercise for the day . . . but I only meant to do one hour.  With photo ops like this, who could resist staying out longer though?)

Okay, okay.

Today I will practice BIC.

I will absolutely, positively practice BIC.

Right after my shower and B's progress report conference.
