Because I get to do what I want, I'm going to post awesome clips/pictures of my favourite scenes from each of the MCU movies. (Since Ant-Man appeared in Civil War, he is added to the roster.)
Technically, Captain America should be the first of the films to watch, but I'm going to treat it as a "flashback" movie and stick it before the Avengers, because when Cap wakes up, a lot of the events in the first two Iron Man movies, the Hulk, and Thor have already taken place.
(Because I tend to love ALL the scenes from the movies, I'll limit myself to a total of five per movie - I'll aim for three, but I can go up to five. Does that seem fair? Thank you s' much.)
Iron Man 1:
When he's freakin' blacksmithing in captivity!!!
Since I've already fangirled over the part when Yinsen saves Tony, I'm not going to post that. Instead, I'll skip forward to the entire Gulmira scene, where Tony takes out a fleet of bad guys.
This scene, where Pepper has to replace the Arc Reactor...
When Dummy saves Tony...
When his arc reactor flickers back on after Pepper calls his name...
Iron Man 2:When he tries to be sweet and brings Pepper
strawberries, forgetting she's allergic to them.
When he rediscovers the Vibranium element that will not only make his
arc reactor more powerful, but will also stop it from poisoning him...
When Pepper finds out he was dying...
Tony and Rhodey's Bro Battle against the Hammer-Drones. :)
The Incredible Hulk:(I have only watched The Incredible Hulk once, and this was after I'd seen The Avengers and had embraced
Mark Ruffalo in the role of the Hulk. So, I didn't much care for Ed Norton as the Hulk, but he had some cute vulnerable scenes, and the movie overall had some good parts.)
The way he tries to control his blood pressure, so he doesn't go critical...
This pretty epic chase scene...
And that's really about it. (It wasn't my most favouritest Marvel movie in the whole wide world.)
Thor:When Darcy Tazes Thor...
This entire scene. :)
When Thor breaks the Bifrost to stop Loki from destroying Jotunheim...
Captain America: The First Avenger:When Steve Rogers leaps on that grenade!!!
When Steve gives zero cares about orders and goes on an op
that saves hundreds of POWs - including Bucky...
This scene after he loses Bucky and he's trying to get drunk...
When he gives zero cares about Red Skull...
When he has to put the ship in the water. :(
The Avengers:Ugh!
There are too many good scenes in the Avengers! I'll do my best to only choose five of the best... even though I could pretty much post the entire movie and say, "I loved it all!"
But the best scenes, IMHO:When this old man refused to kneel to Loki...
When Natasha "re-calibrates" Hawkeye...
When Coulson DIES!!!
THIS SCENE!!!
When Tony flies the nuke into the portal...:'(
Iron Man 3:Every time Tony has a panic attack :(
This totally sweet scene...
When he loses Jarvis...
When he demonstrates some pretty sick moves in this fight...
When he saves Pepper and calls her "Honey." :)
Thor: The Dark World:Frigga's Funeral.
THIS SCENE! :)
Followed closely by THIS SCENE!!
Thor's grief at Loki's death...
THIS:
Captain America: The Winter Soldier:This start to a beautiful friendship...
Pretty much every time Steve speaks... This entire fight scene, but especially that knife flip. :)
BUCKY! :(
This Steve epicness...
Avengers: Age of Ultron:Adorable Steve Rogers being adorable...
Tony, reminding me so much of myself here... :)
When Bruce and Natasha were suddenly PERFECT together...
Clint in this scene: "Nobody would know."
When Quicksilver saves Hawkeye...
Ant-Man:When Scott gets out of prison...
When he introduces himself to the Falcon...
When these guys come roaring to Scott's aid,
only to be faced with a phalanx of cops...
When he goes subatomic to save his daughter...
Captain America: Civil War: This movie had more scenes that broke my heart than probably any other MCU movie out there. I think it's because Steve and Tony are my GUYS, and having them angry at each other was the hardest thing in the world. Steve is the man who is already on the moral high ground and who we aspire to become, and Tony is the man who gives us the hope of attaining that moral high ground by conquering ourselves more and more each day. I couldn't stand to see them fighting.
So this is more a collection of favourite bro scenes/scenes that broke my heart (there are more pictures here because there were too many good ones NOT to post...):
This scene, when Tony and Steve were still BESTIES!! :(
Peggy's funeral...
When freakin' Zemo reactivates Bucky, and he goes on a rampage...
When lines are drawn...
"I'm trying to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart!"
"You did that when you signed."
Bucky not believing his worth...
THIS. FREAKING. SCENE. x-(
When Rhodey gets hurt...:(
When Steve and Bucky take cover behind the shield. :)
When Tony sees this footage...
Which understandably incenses him...
...Which leads to this awful scene, where Steve is forced to fight a friend to save a friend.
This very epic, but very heartbreaking moment...
And finally, the last scene, where hopefully the healing has
started and they can find a way back to their friendship.
And that's all for now, folks! I hope that put you back in the mood to rewatch all the Avengers movies (in order, of course!) and get totally caught up in the character development again.
Until next time, that's a wrap!
God bless!

After Easter and the jury duty kerfuffle...
... I got a rejection on a query I sent to an agent about a month before. Technically, she never responded to the query, which per the guidelines basically meant the same thing.
No reply, no acceptance. But that's okay. I dusted off my poor weeping query, gave it a little spruce up and sent it bravely back into the
big wide world of agents. I may have whispered a
prayer to send it on its way.
Then I had a wedding I went to, last week of April/beginning of May, wherein my sister
Amanda (keeper of the blog,
Hit and Miss) designed
floral arrangements for the altar, and we cleaned
bucketloads of
roses,
carnations,
baby's breath and
greens and I made
15 centerpieces in glass milk jars for the reception.
Speaking of which, I don't think I want to go to weddings anymore. Waaaaaay too many people!
Way too many people I don't know, and way too many random people wanting to talk to me.
Then we got BACK from the wedding
and the weather has been liek dis:
And liek dis:
|
*snarf, grumble, grouch |
It hasn't been NICE. It has been the opposite. It has been DARK. My mood goeth downhill.Directly after getting back, we were into Mother's Day week. Which made the flower shop a crazy busy place. Which meant yours truly got to work a six-day work week, after a weekend filled with flower arrangements and wedding feels and socializing.
Socializing, for me, can be physically more draining and damaging than a solid week's work, so piling MOTHER'S DAY WEEK on top of that was... was...
Sorry, words fail.
However, good news. Before driving back from the wedding in Bakersfield, we stopped at Target and all four of us who had attended the wedding picked up copies of the
Target Edition of Josh Groban's STAGES, which contains 17 tracks and are all of them amazing.
Josh has this superpower that never fails to make me marvel at how PERFECTLY he sings.
IMHO, he sings the only acceptable version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Speaking of
Superheroes and Marvel, I also watched the first two episodes of
Daredevil on Netflix during that wedding weekend, so when I got
back from the wedding I proceeded to watch the other 11 episodes.
Matt Murdoch is the best! I refuse to say anything, because, as Yoda say, "If Netflix you have, Daredevil you should be watching." Seriously, he's a new favourite Marvel superhero. He is so amazing and cool! Unfortunately, now that I'm done with those 13 episode, the next season won't be up until
2016! Netflix, why? Why? Whyyyyy?
Then I saw Age of Ultron.
All I'm going to say about THIS is, OH MY GOSH! HAWKEYE!! TONYSTEVETHOR! QUICKSIIIIIILVER! JARVISJARVISJARVIS!! And never, ever, ever have I let a ship sink as fast as I let Black Widow's and Hawkeye's. I was surprisingly okay with it. I waved a hand and thought, I don't mind Natasha and Clint being friends.
After this,
Teresa and
Jack and I started watching Harry Potter. I have never really watched Harry Potter.
I had read up to the fourth book (which *
I* thought was horrifying) and then watched the fourth movie which, IMHO, did NOT live up to the fourth books horrifyingness (which is not a word, but I don't care. I'm a writer. I do what I want).
Frankly, the fourth movie rather bored me, so I gave up on the series. Then, I dunno, after the final book had been published and was no longer talked about, I thought I might as well finish the book series, and while I thought J.K. Rowling did a fine job with writing, I wasn't entirely sold on the series. I don't know why. I just wasn't a fan.
So I have had no urge to watch the movies until after Valentine's Day, when after a long grueling day at work I came home, ate something fortifying and turned on the TV, and discovered The Chamber of Secrets was playing. Having nothing better to do, I watched it.
Since then, I've been off again, on again wanting to watch them, and we started our sporadic marathon about two weeks ago. While the first four were nothing special (for me, anyway - and btw, the fourth movie is NOT as boring as I remembered it being. Perhaps one needs to have been away from books and movies for a significant amount of time or something), we just finished Deathly Hallows part 1, and I'll admit the 5th, 6th and 7-1/2th movies engaged me more and made me feel a bit more connected to the characters. (Though, and I'm speaking from my experience of having read the books YEARS ago, I am pretty certain the scriptwriters could have clarified Harry as being The Chosen One. That shtick sort of makes an appearance in the Half Blood Prince, and while I *think* it was clear in the book, it was NOT AT ALL CLEAR in the movie(s), and I honestly can't remember how or why or who or when Harry became this Chosen One or even what it has to do with the plot.)
I don't think I'm still (yet) techinically a fan. I haven't entirely finished the series, after all. Deathly Hallows part 2 will possibly (probably) happen tonight, but now that I've watched the movies I can see
why people have become fans. I will be honest even more and state that I do have a bad tendency to quote HISHE or Honest Trailer lines during crucial moments of the movies (such as, Wizzzzard lightning battle! or, Look out, Harry, he doesn't have a nose!, or, "Just saving your life. And countless others. In the future. It's a long story.") But overall, my favorite characters are Snape, Professor McGonagall, George and Fred, and Harry. I like Ron and Hermione, but those first five are my favorites.
Lastly, to bring my month to a close, the query I'd dusted off and sent back out came back with a request for the agent to see the full manuscript.
So I sent the full manuscript to the agent, and now I must wait
up to 60 days to see what she thinks. It's a bit torturous, but she was nice enough to admit that it was torturous, which was good to hear.
Empathy, empathy. So all I can do now is pray... and hope... and pray... and, you know, hope.
So, that's been my month! I hope yours has been just as exciting and eventful as mine, albeit less gloomy. *Rain, rain, go away, come again some OTHER day.*
Until next month...
Cat! :)

When the “House of Mouse” bought the “House of Ideas” in 2009 it opened up infinite synergy possibilities we’re only seeing the cusp of in film, television, and publishing. Without Disney; things like the Big Hero 6 movie or the new flood of Star Wars comics have a harder time getting made, maybe even impossible. One area that the deal has yet to see noticeable fruit in is the Disney theme parks.
Outside of a rumor about the possibility of a Marvel themed roller coaster we haven’t heard much about future plans for incorporation of their characters to the happiest place on earth. Before the closure of Hall of Innoventions inside Tomorrowland, the only signs of Marvel inside Disneyland were meet-and-greets with cast memembers dressed as Captain America and Thor. Note, if you ever want to be weirded out and amazed at the same time then meet Captain America at Disneyland. The cast members do a tremendous job of having an in character conversation with kids and adults alike; it’s the next level of taking pictures with someone in Cosplay.
I’m not the Disneyfile that most of my friends are, in fact I only have an annual pass to the parks because of peer pressure. Before Thor and Captain America were brought in there wasn’t really anything about the parks that felt like it was for me. From the first time I waited in line for the Marvel characters, I knew these were my “princesses” and now I want Disneyland to bring even more Marvel in. In the spirit of waiting for Avengers: Age of Ultron to hit theaters Friday, here’s 5 Marvel attractions Disney needs to bring to Disneyland:
1. Spider-Man’s “Swinging Over New York”
In the tradition of Disney California Adventure’s “Soaring Over California” ride, Marvel could be incorporated in a similar attraction that Mary Jane’s the audience on Spidey’s back as he web swings all over the city of New York. The 5 Burrows, Coney Island, The Brooklyn Bridge; all are just part of what could be an adventure that connects you with Spider-Man like never before. This could even cameo various heroes from across the Marvel Universe. You could pop over the X-Mansion, Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum, or Stark Industries tower. Plus, how cool would it be to swing over Hell’s Kitchen and glimpse Daredevil beating the tar out of some mugger. Probably not the most kid friendly moment but you get the idea. This ride could even take a page from Star Tours and change up between different scenarios giving it a lot of repeat value.
2. Inhumans: Find Your Gifts
We don’t know anything about the upcoming film. From what we’ve seen so far in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Marvel wants the Inhumans to have Guardians of the Galaxy level of appeal with audiences. One of the quirky things about Disney parks that’s always good for a kick are the exhibits that let you “find your spirit animal” or tell you “what disney character” you are. The Terrigen Mists are the perfect delivery system for an exhibit that let’s kids and adults find out what Inhuman power they’d unlock. You’d walk through the mist and have exhibits where one (through the magic of Disney imagineering) could lift a car, teleport, shatter a piece of the planet with a whisper, or just have deadly hair. Attilan could definitely rise at Disneyland.
3. Deadpool’s “4th Wall Break”
Sure it would be hard to justify Disney building a ride that would –in a round about way– promote a Movie they’d have nothing to do with, but this is all just hypotheticals. So let’s build a Carsland Racers style ride that takes you through the inner madness of Deadpool with twist and turns traversing the characters funniest moments right before a drag race that shatters a giant comic page at the end of the ride.
4. Marvel Midway
If Marvel attractions were built into California Adventure by the pier area they could take over the midway carnival games section. Imagine characters like the Punisher running the shooting gallery, or the test of strength with Mjölnir. We could even have Professor X guess your weight. A carnival atmosphere complete with Marvel prizes and Hulk cotton candy. Here’s another novel approach for something like this; publishing could even operate a newsstand style Marvel comics shop here complete with their own Skottie Young variants and all where kids could get exposed to the latest comics after they see the movies.
5. Captain America and Friends Character Breakfast
One of the best ,and albeit, most expensive things to do in Disneyland is the Minnie and Friends character breakfast at the Plaza Inn. It’s an all you can eat breakfast buffet, but what really makes it special are the costumed characters that roam around greeting you and taking pictures with you while you dine. It’s a value for anyone who hates waiting in long lines to meet Disney characters and the interactions feel more personable. Marvel has over 700 plus characters in their library that could rotate on different days of the week. Though I don’t think I’d want to look at MODOK while I eat breakfast. I definitely wouldn’t mind having the Hulk playfully try to steal my waffle or Black Widow greet me as I’m scarfing down my bacon and ham omelet. Even the food could be themed, if they can make waffles in the shape of a Mickey Mouse head, a Captain America shield should be no problem. Maybe even give the villains some love with Green Goblin eggs and ham, or Baron Zemo biscuits & gravy. Also you could have this…
With the D23 Expo this August in Anaheim, we might finally get new information on any plans Disney has to incorporate more Marvel themed attractions at the parks. In the meantime I’ll say this “Make Mine Disney Marvel!”
What are some of your ideas for a Disney Marvel themed attraction?

The mystery behind what Marvel was planning with their Planet Hulk teaser has just been officially revealed with a comic entitled…Planet Hulk! The tale features the creative team of Sam Humphries on writing and Marc Laming on art, who are chronicling the new adventures of Hulk, Steve Rogers, and Devil Dinosaur during the upcoming Secret Wars crossover. CBR broke the news and ran an exclusive interview with Jack Kirby creation Devil Dinosaur on the inception of the brand new series–Yes, you read that sentence correctly.
The Dino was interviewed in place of author Sam Humphries, who took a vacation to New Attilan. Fans can look for Planet Hulk in May, and take note that this series falls under the Warzones! banner of Secret Wars.
“RAAAAAAUGH!! The scent of blood burns my nostrils,” said Devil Dinosaur to CBR. “The Captain and I are far, far from the colosseum. The colosseum of battle, and death. The colosseum where we are warbound. “May he who dies, die well.” But death follows us to Greenland. This is a place where we HUNT. We hunt the RED KING!”
This crossover bodes well for the company, as Marvel is continuing to take advantage of some really quirky ideas for tie-ins including the Garth Ennis project announced earlier this week. Where Monsters Dwell mixes World War I with more Dinosaurs. This week’s new Marvel announcements contain all the dinos that we could possibly ask for.
It seems that the extinct animal is hunting for Steve Rogers who appears to be caught in his crosshairs:
“ROOOOOAWL! The Captain and I are WARBOUND. We fight in the coliseum. Every day, the Captain’s mighty axe, bathed in blood. From different lands, yet we are brothers. Brothers in battle. I will kill all who fight the Captain! I will smash their skulls in my TEETH. I will rend their flesh in my CLAWS! They will know THE FURY OF DEVIL DINOSAUR!!”
Finally, lets give the creature a hand for some extraordinary etiquette in the manner in which the Devil Dinosaur signs out his emails:
ALL HULK FALL UNDER OUR RAGE!!!
If you have any follow up questions, I will be happy to address.
Many thanks and have a great day.

Continuing Mark Waid’s seeming obsession with the in- prefix, Marvel’s third of what will presumably be five teasers revealing their upcoming ‘Marvel NOW!’ books has been revealed. He’ll be teaming up this November with artist Leinil Francis Yu, for what is likely to be a new Incredible Hulk relaunch. The news comes from CBR, which means we have to put up with that little obnoxious ‘CBR exclusive!’ tag which we all hate so well.
This is the third Avenger to be given a relaunched solo series after AvX concludes, following the apparent Thor and Iron Man creative teams announced earlier this week. Hulk only relaunched itself recently, with Jason Aaron trying out a new run which saw Banner as the monster and Hulk as the desperate hero. Which, well, that’s had mixed reviews. Next time’s the charm?
Oh, and if the Marvel NOW! promotional image from Joe Quesada is any indication… Hulk’s going to be wearing some armour. No sign of She-Hulk Jennifer Walters yet, but rest assured that I’ll leap onto the internet, keyboard blazing, as soon as there is even the barest indication that she might show up somewhere.
The “Upfronts” have taken/are taking place somewhere in Hollywood and New York and although it sounds like a bra convention, what it really means is the networks are parading their new shows for 2012-13 in front of TV reporters. The big comics news was a greenlight for the Green Arrow TV show—minus the arrow—but Marvel stuff also has some motion.
Basically, they nixed the Alias show that had been in development, as well as the Punisher show. The latter is probably a good thing, as it would have forced an imminent shortage of fake blood and bullet wound putty. However, the Hulk show, to be produced by Guillermo del Toro is moving forward. Okay, this is doubtless because Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk was one of the very bestest things about the Avengers, which stunned everyone because the last two Hulk movies were kinda…comme ci, comme ca, you know. But you see there is a problem here. And we’ll spell it out for you.
The reason the Hulk in Avengers was so great is because he was a supporting character not the lead.
Don’t you see? Freed from having to support an actual story, the Hulk becomes a fun, anarchic character. Or: The Hulk is green, like wasabi and also like wasabi, you don’t want a whole meal from it…just a little smear on your hamachi roll/ $1 billion movie.
And if you think about it, The Hulk was kind of a supporting character the last successful TV show, too. Or at least he wasn’t the overt catalyst of the action. Generally he just wandered into some situation, Hulked it up and wandered off, all lonely.
Anyway, maybe del Toro will come up with something good, but we’re in no hurry to see a whole Hulk movie any time soon.
• Now, the Guardians of the Galaxy, that’s another thing. Graeme McMillan pieces together all the information that leads him to suspect that the Guardians might just be that elusive May 16, 2014 Marvel movie.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige himself mentioned it as a possibility last month at the Avengers press junket, expressing his fondness for the property and listing it among Inhumans, Doctor Strange and the long in-the-works Ant-Man as non-sequel films being considered. Things started to feel a lot more real following the now-famous mid-credits scene of Avengers, where ****** is revealed as the mysterious force behind Loki's Chitauri army. ****** certainly has a history with the Guardians of the Galaxy crew, and is a big part of the cosmic sphere of the Marvel Universe they inhabit.
Graeme’s evidence isn’t terribly convincing, but that 2014 movie will probably be something offbeat for the reasons he lays out:
Though a Guardians of the Galaxy movie might still seem unlikely by nature, it’s clear that Marvel is looking at lesser-known properties to start widening their scope beyond the world of the Avengers. After all, marquee names like Spider-Man,
Any time I attempt to sculpt something, it seems like I am just shaping one blob into another slightly-more-refined blob. So I’m always somewhat blown away by real sculptors’ work, and this detailed 1/4 scale Incredible Hulk by Andy Bergholtz is no exception.
It’s from a 2006 blog post over at Sideshow Collectibles showing the process in creating one of their high-end collectible figures.

I’m tired of reading.
My books are so boring.
I’m tired of sports,
All that running and scoring.
I’m tired of sleeping.
Who needs all that resting?
I’m tired of laughing.
I want no more jesting.
I’m tired of eating --
I’m so bored of chewing.
I’m tired of people
And how-do-you-doing.
I’m tired of learning:
It's far from exciting.
I’d tell you some more...
But I’m too tired of writing.
Thanks, y'all, for joining me for my April poem-a-day postings (of which this is the last). Links to all my blogged poems are over to the right -- under the headline The Poems -- and it's getting to be quite a nice sized list! Now, as noted, I really am tired... so I gotta book. See you in May!
Everyone do yourself a favor and please pick up Vision, there’s two issues out so far (third issue hits on 1/6) and it’s really something different, but not odd for odd’s sake, just a unique narrative voice with great art too.
‘The next step will be anniversary relaunch issues: “look, it’s the 10th relaunch of this series, let’s celebrate it!”’
This is a hilarious and oddly foreseeable eventuality, and, given the sales on the current volume of Captain America (the ninth, by your count), one Marvel could have the opportunity to inaugurate in only a matter of months.
While I think the general idea of evaluating the benefit of the relaunches is sound, I do think that expectations for upticks on books from this particular relaunch might not need to be high. Marvel didn’t relaunch individual books based on the need to gain sales for that book. They relaunched everything, pretty much just on the basis of “we’re only going to do Secret Wars for a couple of months”. So while they may have taken the opportunity to rearrange some creatives, the only reason a lot of them relaunched was just because everybody was doing it. Peer pressure, as it were. What this DOES tell us is how relaunches (regardless of reason) are not as effective as they used to be.
Tom King’s work, including Vision and Omega Men, seems to be developing a habit of garnering critical praise but netting minimal sales. I think a part of this is the character driven marketing the big two are pushing. Few people are going to pick up a book that focuses on a C/D list character if you market it on the strength of said character.
If the big two marketed these no-name books as TOM KING stories, and pushed the hell out of him rather than their small potato properties, it’s possible that they’d see sales rise.
Wasn’t The Vision in that last Avengers movie?
Conventional wisdom probably dictates that The Vision charts higher than Tom King at this point. And Marvel is generally more likely to push their stable of characters over an online favorite.
I lived and participated (slightly) in the 90’s speculator bubble. Looks like it is happening again but this time, I am not buying multiple copies of every #1. Guess I learned a little something in my youth.
Tom King did write the digital smash Injustice Gods Among us based on the video game. true, but he is a best selling author.
@Tim – that logic just doesn’t hold up. Media ties in having varying effects, particularly when there’s media that’s just based on one thing (Watchmen, Walking Dead) vs media that’s based on multiple series (most superhero stuff).
I’m pretty sure it was Tom Taylor that wrote the video game comic. And a quick web search suggests that the best selling author is another person altogether.
On MIRACLEMAN: “Renumbering the title for each reprinting period has done wonders for it.”
We were just discussing this at our store ordering meeting today, as we’re being asked to order #1 & 2 of “MIracleman by Gaiman & Buckingham: The Silver Age”, where the NEW NEIL GAIMAN COMICS will be printed as issue #3 (and forward) of that series.
Interest is pretty low in the reprints (we’re somewhere in the 20 copy range at the main store), but I don’t see how I’m expected to order up on #3? How many people are going to jump on at that point? I actually think more people would grasp it if it was #25, honestly — I mean “#3” will be Neil’s ninth issue of MM, right?
Re-serializing MM was almost certainly a tactical mistake — the early issues just aren’t very good, in the context of 2015, and it created a fair amount of ennui about the character as a whole. In retrospect, they really should have just gone straight to book, monthly on the first four volumes, then did “New” MM as a #1 from the material that was supposed to be in #25 originally, and done a “#0” bumper of #23 & 24 — then they would have had some real excitement. Not now, though.
