A modern family crest for the Scottish Stewarts.
I am a Traveling artist. I have packed my brushes and am going on my journey. As a traveling muralist/ artist I have to figure out ways to make my time away feel more like home, this time I am bringing my daughter’s “little one” and my son’s Mr. Swiss.
The best way to paint is painting from life, not from computer reference images and not from photos. It is easier (at least for me) to paint or draw something that already 1dimensional because some of the flattening/simplifying of information is already done. So here you can see my magnolia watercolor painting from life in progress.
So much fun creating this design for our Waldorf Charter School’s Jog-a-thon!
A small acrylic painting inspired by Swedish traditional Folk Costumes… and forest doves.

The focus has been so intense on promotion of the work that hauls in the dough. The time for painting will come again, for now I get to sketch my kids and work on photoshop in spare bits of time.
I thought I would share that my book “Neither God nor Devil” is on remainder and is selling for less that I was paying for it directly from the publisher. You can find it here (a resource for books online).
There are a number of reviews for it here.
I admit I have always thought it would be fun to create a character out of fabric, dress it, pose it… much like dolls I had when I was little. Creating an illustration is similar except that there are different limitations. Now that I am creating a softie of my own I can see that designers and creators of softies have a talent that I do not seem to have. Last night I stayed up until 1 creating what was possibly the most hideous stuffed bird known to man. It was so bad that my daughter (who will play with anything, naming green beans in the garden, etc) did not have any desire to even touch it!
Tonight I took it apart (I should have photographed it- but I could not wait to take it apart). I started again with the same parts and a little more knowledge.
I don’t know if it will be worthwhile to post a pattern I am not sure I could create the same thing twice myself nevertheless instruct someone else to do it! Instead I am going to giveaway a “hope” ornament in copper wire. I’ll post more about that later but if you want to enter the giveaway just post a comment to this post.
I am planning to post a pattern on how to make a bird about town stuffed figure out of wool felt. This will be my holiday craft. Look for it before the 14th!
I was hoping to have the time and inspiration to create some user friendly crafts but- no luck. Instead my constant bird muse has enticed me to make wire bird ornaments that are impossible to duplicate. One of a kind is nice but not when you want to make a post of how to make something!
Here are some pictures anyway. The “hope” ornament is inspired by our new president elect.
You’ll find more on etsy.
Just kidding, we both copied calder it seems. I really love the new catalog on their site. This past spring I created a similar mobile with copper wire.
SO now that I have finished some gifts from last year maybe I can start on this year’s gifts. I have some fun ideas that I can’t wait to try!
This scarf is soft merino wool and it buttons on the edge so it will not fall off.
I’ve been meaning to make a post about holiday projects but have yet to start those well meaning gift projects. Instead I am finishing a project from last year, a scarf for my daughter. I found a tutorial online about how to make a pom pom- I’ll post her scarf when it is done : )
Wow. You’re talented
