1. Review: Undermajordomo Minor by Patrick deWitt

Patrick deWitt’s follow up to the brilliant The Sisters Brothers is just as described by the publisher on my advanced reading copy, “incredible”. Continuing on with the subversiveness that made The Sisters Brothers such a magnificent and unique take on The Western, deWitt turns his hand to another genre to create a darkly comic romp that […]

3. New Painting for the Jack Kirby show in Seattle.

This is for the Jack Kirby show that's coming up in August. I always loved the way he visually told stories made with crazy bold graphics. This one is taking an extra creature from an old comic book and painting it up in Photoshop while keeping the bold designs that Kirby created.
I wanted to do something more complicated but I've got many other projects that need my attention right now so this one will have to suffice.

7. Time traveling Ernest!

I did this for a project that I had been working on at the Tacoma History Museum. I did several murals and the signage. This one was an extra illustration that I threw in because I really liked working on the exhibit, which opens in May of 2014. Stay posted! :D

11. What a Wonderful World - New Painting

There is a certain uplift and elevation one feels while listening to Louis Armstrong's beautiful song
"What a Wonderful World".

This painting is dedicated to him and his song. Listen to his music here...

I enjoy creating images of surrealistic floating sculptures.

14. You Don't Know Me!

Another NEW painting for 2010. I'm doing a series of these type of paintings for this next month or so,... all the while working on a couple of deadlines and finishing up on some design work and drawing art for my graphic novel... no rest for the weary.

Hope all is well.

15. Just west of Eden

This is a collaboration i did with Joe MacGown.

You can see more of his work here http://neogothic-jam.deviantart.com/
He made the underpainting and send this to me by e-mail. I started with inking it randomly for about 50% and mailed it to Joe and he finished it.

Full view is highly recommended.

See more of this type of collaboration at http://collaborativecorpse.deviantart.com/

More of my work you will find here on my DeviantaArt page or on Carbonmade

18. BUY ONE GET ONE FREE

Good Morning:

As I have been ever so busy painting the room that will become my "studio", I haven't had a spare moment to hop over to my blog. Alas ~ I am finished with the painting and will steal this day to relax and do nothing or anything I choose to do.

I had intended to do a bit of work in the garden, but there's a chill in the wind that urges me to stay indoors. Maybe I'll try a new recipe or list a few more prints in my art shop.

Either way, I have a lovely day ahead of me with no actual plans. I am almost giddy, as those types of days are far and few between.

________________________________

I am having a "Buy One Get One Free" sale in my Etsy Art Shop.

Buy one ACEO print and get another ACEO print of your choice for free. I think purchasing ACEOs are a great way to get to know an artist. They are small (2-1/2" x 3-1/2") and affordable. For those of you who may not know about ACEOs: ACEO is an acronym for "Art Cards, Editions and Originals". They are miniature pieces of art. They must measure 2-1/2" x 3-1/2", which is the size of a standard trading card. They can be any medium, but they must be the correct size to be considered an ACEO. All of my ACEO prints are $6.00 each. I have so many to choose from and lots more to list as time allows. Over the course of the last several years, I have made 209 ACEOs. Here are a few examples:

Amelia's Day in the Sun

Guardian of the Asian Tourists

The Guardian's Home

The Arizona Sunbathers

Two Tickets to Tucson

and....these last two are quite special to me. The happy desert couple that you see depicted are my mom and dad right after they got married. They left Northwest Arkansas to come to the desert of Southern California.

Happy Desert Couple #1

Happy Desert Couple #2

All of these prints along with many more can be found here.

As always, thanks so much for taking the time to visit my blog.

19. IN CELEBRATION OF THE VERNAL EQUINOX

Good Morning:

Oh it is a lovely and warm day. The twitterpated birds are busy gathering bits of this and pieces of that. All to be woven into ragged yet efficient homes for their upcoming eggs.

I am on the watch for the return of my yearly visitors...The Hooded Orioles.

I have my Oriole feeder ready to hang at the first sight of flickering orange. They will stay with us from early spring through September. The male visits first, establishes the feeder and then brings his "wife". They will build their nests away from the feeding station. Once the eggs have hatched and the babies (usually two) are big enough to take flight, mom and dad will introduce them to the feeder. By the time they take leave in the Autumn, the babies will be teenagers.

Oh how I adore Springtime!

In celebration of the upcoming Vernal Equinox, I am offering free shipping on my three favorite prints from my Art Shop... When purchasing, mention that you read about the sale on my blog and I will add a free ACEO print of your choice.

Here are the three Springtime prints:

Little Bertie in the Garden

Rabbit's Unexpected Party

Dancing Fiona

20. CONTEST

Good Morning:

I hope this entry finds you all well and looking forward to the beginning of Daylight-Saving Time this upcoming Sunday. It is always one of my most favorite days of the year!

This morning is the beginning of my weekend long contest. All you need to do is post a comment. Then, I will count the amount of comments, write the numbers down on little pieces of paper, and drop them on the floor. The piece of paper that Homer touches with her nose first will be the winning number. Does that make any sense at all?

The winning number will receive this:

It is a print of my original collage entitled "Rabbit's Curious Day". The image size measures 4" x 6" and there is a small white border about the image.

Enjoy:

21. Theatre of Curious Acts

theatreofcuriousactsuse Let me introduce you to my NaNoWriMo project: THEATRE OF CURIOUS ACTS.

Oh, and by the way – I’m cheating.  The ‘Theatre of Curious Acts’ is a set of intertwined stories set over a century – three novellas and two short stories – all heading toward the same conclusion.  The basic premise is:

The Grim Reaper is a girl, her name is Olivia and her pale horse is a pirate ship.  When Daniel Cole, a shell-shocked WW1 soldier, is transported to the surreal otherworld where she resides, he ruins her and her sisters plans for the coming apocalypse.

So we have:

Part One: Shrapnel From a Broken Smile

A ghost story. It’s 2008, the once glorious ‘Theatre of Curious Acts’ is derelict and provides the perfect playground for a boy out to impress a girl.

Part Two: Paper Dragons

In 1918 a group of WW1 Soldiers head out to the Theatre of Curious Acts for a fabled ‘Paper Dragon’ show.  They are transported to a surreal otherworld where Daniel Cole and Swan Ecklund are beguiled by two sisters – Olivia and Blanche.

Part Three: (The man with) One Yellow Shoe

It is 1985 and Harvey Cadell (one of our soldiers from ‘Paper Dragons’) has returned to the theatre, which is now a cinema, to catch one last performance before he dies. And in the hope he will find a door back to that otherworld and some of his lost friends. Instead he meets The Collector of Memories and finds himself trapped in a movie.

Part Four: Monstrous Interlude

It’s 1955 and during the showing of a B-movie a monster escapes. It is up to ‘The Collector of Memories’ to put it back.

Part Five: Anticipating Pitchforks

Daniel Cole returns from the otherworld just in time for Armageddon. Oh, and he’s arrived on Olivia’s pirate ship and her sisters are following in their own transport: a zeppelin, a battleship and a train.
