Despite reports to the contrary, it looks like we won’t actually get our big showdown between Marvel and DC after all when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25th. Instead Marvel and Netflix have announced that the second season of the critically acclaimed Daredevil will instead debut on March 18th. They released […]

I didn't write anything about the fall TV season this (last) year, because frankly, it was too dismal and boring to write anything about, and anything I could have said would have just joined the chorus of thinkpieces lamenting the networks' inability to produce anything resembling worthwhile new shows. But here we are in winter, with the network shows on break or just coming out of it, and

‘What connexion can there be between the place in Lincolnshire, the house in town, the Mercury in powder, and the whereabouts of Jo the outlaw with the broom,’ asks Dickens’s narrator in Bleak House. As the novel develops, it offers various possible answers, including disease, family, money, and friendship.

2015 has been an interesting year for Marvel Studios and the MCU. The ever-expanding franchise's movie wing struggled this year, closing out the otherwise excellent Phase II with the overstuffed Avengers: Age of Ultron and the underbaked Ant-Man, two very different movies whose single shared trait is how definitively they demonstrate that Marvel isn't interested in--is, in fact, terrified of-

If you were concerned that the next Avengers movie, Avenger: Infinity War, slated for 2018, would contain 150 Marvel characters and sacrifice drama, storytelling and memory storage to too many characters running around, rest easy: there will only be 100 characters in the film. that's because the Marvel Netflix character can't really cross over into the movies. This little tiddlebt was revealed by director Joe Russo—one half of the Directin' Russo Brothers—who was being interviewed by a Portuguese outlet, and thought, as many have before him, that just because it was in a foreign language he could be bat more candid than normal.

“When you play the Game of Thrones you win or you die.” While apt in the season one age of Sean Bean, as we head into season six of the smash hit HBO show, the statement doesn’t seem to hold nearly as much water. For those who need a refresher (spoilers abound, but really, it’s been […]

The Supergirl pilot that debuted last night on CBS a lot of weight on its shoulders. The show tells the story of Kara Zor-El, played by Melissa Benoist, as she escapes Superman's shadow and comes into her own as National City's first superhero. It is the network's first major superhero endeavor, the first superhero show led be a solo female in more than 40 years and the pilot had a lot of ground to cover, attempting to endear characters to new viewers while also trying to re-envision elements of the mythos without alienating established comics fans. Does it succeed? The Beat is here to tell you with a hard hitting roundtable. We've always wanted to have one of those.

by Thaddeus Howze [Editor’s note: There’s been a lot of controversy over how The Walking Dead treats its non-white characters. While I was impressed with the number of people of color in the cast, they haven’t always survived the zombie apocalypse in heroic fashion. But everyone dies in a zombie apocalypse, you may say. Well, since the one is streaming and the other will be in theaters, I didn’t see it as much of a showdown in the first place.
Andrew, you’re right. And factor in that many, many more folks will watch the DCU film than will actually watch the second season of Daredevil.
